Went while it was 57 degrees and rainy and I would do it again. The view through the fog was spectacular and the wildflowers were gorgeous. Will definitely go again, maybe when the suns out.

Awesome camping area 2 miles from parking. Get there early as non 4wheel drive parking is limited. Easy trail to navigate if you pay attention. Several waterfalls on the way up if you open your ears. 9 campsites at the lake that are first come first serve basis. All are nice but some better than others. There are several cool trails above the lake that you can explore old mines and get an awesome view of devils thumb. Pack your fly pole as you can slay fish up there in the morning or evening. Permit not required as you are not in Indian Peaks Wilderness

Awesome. Easy walk with beautiful wildflowers

A little crowded for me even with an early start. That's to be expected anywhere off Guanella Pass though. Great hike for small kids. We took a 4 and 5 year old and they made it to the first lake like troopers. Wildflowers everywhere! Even spotted a bald eagle over the lake.

High traffic beautiful scenery but if you want solitude and a challenge for a 20-25 year old it is not what you are looking for.

Great hike

Love, love the view!!!! Its a steep climb up with lots of people on the trail which was nice since there are three times you could go right or left with no sign. We also learned there was a waterfall which was flowing compared to others in the area. The lake is beautiful and cold but that didn’t stop people from jumping in. I hiked this trail with my 7 & 10 year old and we spent about 2-3hrs enjoying the view, lunch and dipping our toes in the water

short and sweet, if you follow the river instead of the main trail, you'll be treated to a old log cabin and beautiful waterfalls. The main trail is a twisted ankle waiting to happen. The lake is pretty but fairly non descript. Filled with little Brook trout.

Great mountain views. Waterfall views. Good for kids.

Awesome trail! We started on the East side of the mountain and went up Dakota Ridge trail. It was a nice hike but very hot outside starting at around 9 am. I would suggest getting there earlier and bring water.

Not easy the first 1/2 mile! Definitely worth the effort. Get there early! Bring cash for parking. Main lot is $5. Other lots are $10.

Unbelievably amazing hike! Steady inclines at times but overall a pretty doable trail by anyone.
I arrived at 6:30pm on a Saturday and the parking had empty spots. Saw a ton of people at the beginning of the trail but the further you go the less people you’ll see.
A lot of bugs when you hike at a later time so bring some bug spray with you! Also, bring a flashlight just in case you need it!

The trail on the map is pretty easy. But there is a much better one above the damn. Think the comments are a combination from both trails. Drive past the trail head on the map to the dam. The trail is on the right side of the dam lake. Lots of rocks to climbs but beautiful views.

Pretty nice overall. Parking lot was almost full by 8 so get there early. Zero issues navigating. It was a pretty moderate incline to finish the hike though.

Great little hike with beautiful views! A waterfall gushes noisily by you once you’re halfway up, and wildflowers are abundant at this time of the year. It has a good amount of shade as well. The only disadvantage is parking at the trailhead. This is a VERY busy trail, and parking is a nightmare. We added a mile each way to our hike because of the parking situation. I would try and take a 4WD with high clearance to allow for parking closer to the trailhead - Basically you can go down a narrow rocky road (read the directions on other hikes in this app, that start at Hessie trail head - King Lake, Jasper Lake). If your car can make it through that path (which also has water year around, so you are driving through a small stream), your hike will be shorter. Else, your best bet with parking is somewhere in the town of Eldora. Good luck and enjoy the hike!

You go downhill on the first half, no matter which way you go and uphill on the way back. Cool creek at the bottom with rocks, rocky path. I like to go uphill then downhill which you can’t do here. Clean and pretty, it was fun!

What a beautiful area. Especially great hike for folks coming from lower elevations. Unfortunately, tons of trash along trail and by the glacier. Please, please, please, pick up your trash!! My daughter's boyfriend found a plastic garbage bag left on the glacier and we picked up as much trash as we could going back to the car. Another bummer was that several drones were noisily flying around the lake. I know they can be fun and take great pics, but most folks would rather you leave them at home please!

Awesome trail! River is beautiful and has a lot of beautiful views. This trail also has a lot of natural rock pools formed by the river. Lots of water. Maybe a bit more harder than moderate. I would totally start on beaver brook trail, if you start the other way, it will be more difficult with lots of challenging uphill.

great hike, with views iconic to colorado - when you see colorado in a photo album, this trail contains views that showcases this.

I’ve stayed in a cabin that I adore up at St. Mary’s Glacier. I’ve hiked the trail to the glacier many times. The trail is short, fairly rocky, and the way to the glacier is all uphill. However, it’s definitely worth the hike. Plus, your hike back is all downhill! The lake is beautiful, and the water is crystal clear. There’s also a hidden waterfall tucked away just to the side of the trail! I just wish it was a little less busy. It seems best to go early in the morning or just before sunset if you go during peak season if you want some privacy. The winter is harsh, but also gorgeous and you can definitely enjoy the sounds of nature!

Beautiful hike. Very rocky but the views were stellar

Gorgeous views from a reasonably short trail. Lots of wildlife along the way!

I did the emerald Lake route . I’m not sure why they called it moderate? It’s a nice 45 min stroll to the lake on a amazingly maintained trail, even paved at the beginning. It’s a great trail for families and young ones . If you want more of a challenge hike around the right side of emerald Lake. It is what I would call a very stable rock scramble and doable by older kids with good shoes( some traction on Btm). Then hike up to the falls which are really pretty . That extension makes the hike moderate and is well worth it plus it’s gets you away from the masses . If you are really an extremist then try hiking up the valley to the right of the river and falls. It is an advanced hike and gets to class 3-4 with 80% grade. Tougher going up but you need poles coming down or you take some falls . Do not hike in single file here as you will trigger rock slides due to grade. Also it is what I’d call a loose rock scramble!! Views are insane from up there but be careful as footing is tricky and it requires some rock climbing .

We loved this hike! Perfect hike for a day. On a Friday there were others out there but not a ton. Go to the end. Emerald Lake is worth it!

gorgeous hike! loved the water! lots of shade and green! Did this with my kids.

Absolutely beautiful hike. I went in May and there was still plenty of snow and ice, but returning in July that was all gone and replaced with plenty of green trees and wildflowers. The hike itself is fairly short and easy, but there are plenty of other trails that branch off if you're looking for a little more.

Easy, busy, but beautiful for sure

This was a hard one with two dogs but otherwise really enjoyed the hike. I started about 7:30 and by the time I finished about 2 hours later the trail was packed!

I might not have described this as easy. Lots of rocks and up hill.
Don't stick the parking notice to windshield, just lay it there. The glue gets baked on the glass and is a bit of a mess.
Awesome views and is very scenic. Certainly worth the effort.
