This is a very enjoyable place to walk in the woods. interesting flora and fauna to take note of a few nice view points of the Hood Canal. We heard eagles flying above us.

I spent the night at Upper Lena Lake a couple years back and loved it! The lake is pristine and the vegetation is renewing.

Pretty steep hike near the end, but a super fun one to do right now (mid-end of October) to see the lake frozen over and the glistening frost!

This is a great park for walking around. There are no difficult parts. It’s great for kids or if you just want to enjoy a nice walk with a warm cup of coffee.

We just spotted some salmon swimming upstream this week. This an enjoyable park for anybody.

the roots and rope climbing sections here are definitely a highlight

This is a beautiful park with lots of trails including some nice boardwalk. There's some art on the trail too and murals under the overpass. We saw several birds including a couple King Fishers.

A nice trail to walk with various routes. It has multiple starting points, I started from Trigger Ave. It's a paved trail from trigger ave all the way to the dog park on the other side of the trail. Great trail to bring the pups on and the family.

First time trying out this hike, since it’s a little far from home. I saw one couple on the trail heading back, other than that no one. It was a Wednesday day around 5pm; definitely a time to go to experience the amazing view this trail offers.

this is absolutely one of my favorite hikes/trail so far. some vegetation seemed weirdly huge, and it really intrigues me.... I went with my 9yr old, 5 yr old, and 2 yr old... not crowded at all... my dog was happy here and the ending at the beach was so beautiful, i went back in march and you could see beautiful mountain panoramic views with little snow on em still. we try to visit as often as possible.

Exhausting, but we'll worth it. Distance seems to be debatable, feels like way more than 6 miles. Streams on the way up to cool off and refill water. The lake is amazing, goats all around and snow packs near by. highly recommend!

I love taking the dog here. It is a great trail and pretty well kept.

Absolutely worth the grueling and challenging hike. Spent 1 night up at the lake and although my body is still dying, I'm already planning a second trip!
Definitely not for the lighthearted!

If you park at the fish park entrance there is a wonderful long, winding boardwalk that would accomodate strollers and wheel chairs. It is a lovely meandering walk through the trees. It would be a great place to bring the littles.

Beautiful view. Trail not well marked. Take a picture of the map at the beginning of the trail to follow along. Beach required a sketchy log crossing.

Hiked this one week ago with my two kids. Putvin trail is maintained and beautiful. Highly recommend. But, the lake of the angels trail is not well maintained and I would NOT recommend for children under 16! Loose dirt, steep, and at times dangerous. We finally had to turn around about 1/2 mile from the lake because it was too dangerous for my 12 year old. One slip on steep, loose dirt and he could have fallen off the side of the mountain. Lake of the angels made Mt. Ellinor(we just hiked it a couple weeks ago) seem easy! Hope this helps!!

This hike has been on my list for a very long time. I can finally check that box! What a beautiful hike. It did, however, meet and exceed previous trip reports on how hard it is. It is very demanding. Steep in parts, steeper still in other parts. I encourage you, if you are setting out on this adventure, to remember to stop and take in the scenery. It is endless beauty from the start to the unbelievably gorgeous lake at the end. If you are thinking of trying this hike/climb be aware there are a couple of kinda dangerous parts aside from the rest of the trail. One is scrambling up rocks and roots, and the other has a fixed rope up a rocky section that is a big help. They both have minimal exposure, and are pretty easy to climb up, just be cautious. The trail is in great shape, and easy to follow. The lake...I’ve looked at so many pictures of this, and my breath was taken away by how beautiful it was in person. My breath was also taken away when I jumped in for a dip! You gotta do it, it is like jumping into an ice cube I think. There was a family of around 6 goats hanging out up there which was pretty cool. Mountains soaring on every side, beautiful sound of the wilderness to accompany you for lunch. It truly is my idea of heaven.

Everyone else’s review is spot on. Lower Lena... no problem (very popular with a lot of chatty Cathy’s, small dogs, and families on the weekend) but Upper Lena is a bit challenging. Steep, trails overgrown with vegetation, often difficult to decipher or find, and random spots with heavy horse flies. I counted 15 downed trees that I either had to climb over, under, or around and I missed a switch back shortly after the lower Lena split and wandered off the trail. There was also another questionable creek crossing that was not clearly depicted. Needless to say I found Upper Lena and it was definitely worth it! Heard a mountain goat bleat in the distance around sunset but never saw one. A lot of deer activity at night near my tent (5 feet away/campsite #9) and mosquitoes were thick! Mosquito/insect repellent is a must!

Great hike, but really technical! I carried up 50 lbs on this hike out and back in a day! From a backpacker perspective, this trail sucks in a lot of ways! The trail up to Lower Lena Lake is pretty cut and dry, but upper Lena Lake is a lot more demanding. There were several downed trees which I either had to take my pack off and crawl under or crawl with the pack on. This was irritating and also low-lying vegetation which obstructs the view of the trail. The bugs were relentless at the top so bring plenty of spray. That being said, it was a beautiful lake and a scenic hike. I hike 2 days a week and just think there are nicer trails to pack weight on! Also, I would not solo this one again!

Lovely little trial. Not very well marked. And it was difficult to get to the beach with out balancing on a log to cross the water. Even during low tide the water was at least above my knees. Beautiful forest!

If you’re thinking of doing this hike get on all fours right now and scurry to your nearest incline and climb up and down for three hours then eat some ice cream. Now you’re prepared

This hike will absolutely kick your butt and then some. You have to really earn that stunning view at the top - but what a view. After all that climbing and scraping once you reach the lake - the feeling is surreal. But yes this hike is not for beginners. The trail is steep from the outset and gets steeper as you go along. There is very little respite on this hike, you are pretty much going up all the way through. The trail is also narrow most of the way so you have to be careful on some portions. But it’s a gorgeous hike and I would absolutely to this all over again. The view of the lake enclosed by the beautiful valley was something else. And there was a family of mountain goats too to add to the beauty :)

It was an easy trail. I loved the nature!

Insanely beautiful hike! Did this two days ago. There’s a little snow at the top but most of it has melted so parts of the trail are pretty muddy. But beware...there’s LOTS of mosquitos here currently. My group and I camped up there for the night and we’ve never experienced anything like it. They swarmed us and we got home looking like we all had some crazy skin infection or disease. If the mosquitos weren’t as bad as they were, we could have enjoyed the area a little more! The lake was crystal clear, and the backdrop of the snow-covered peaks was picturesque and stunning. We even saw a family of mountain goats! This trail is very very very steep and involves some scrambling, so it’s more for advanced hikers. Worth it!

Worth it!!! It is a pretty tough hike! Be prepared. Steep towards the end of the trail turns from physically demanding to mentally. Over all it is worth every drop of sweat. Take swim trunks and enjoy that lake and lay in the sun at the top. Feels amazing and very rewarding. Have fun!

Trail is clear and easy to get to lower Lena which is a good place to camp for a day to 2. Upper Lena trail has fallen trees and is a bit overgrown towards the top but no snow on the trail as of 7/5. Totally worth the view at the top!

The only thing that could improve this path is if it was paved the whole way.

Great hike to upper Lena, I did not properly prepare, but it was still a great day! Definitely bring hiking poles.

Also, 15 mike loop. The last 1.5 to Upper Len lake is brutal but worth the payoff!

Amazing trail we did it in January and it was perfect not a lot of snow and cold weather which felt good for hiking

One of our favorite trails. There is a part that is very close to the highway so it’s loud but other than that it’s a very nice family trail.
