First portion is a steady moderate hike after you cross the highway via a steel walkway. After you cross the road, the intensity increases to moderate to steep at times. We are novice hikers and we decided to go for it and it took us approximately 1 hr 15 minutes to reach the summit. The views are rewarding! Especially seeing the highway we crossed over!

I’d recommend hiking boots for sure, lots of water, snacks and breaks as you need them. I hiked with one hiking pole and found it to be very helpful. At the summit they do have a place to refill water bottles.

beautiful views!!

Well maintained and beautiful fields of wildflowers. Will be back.

Moderate trail with an amazing view! Another mile or so up the blue trail and you get to a gorgeous waterfall. Great for a short hike

easy trail to follow. dogs loved going in the water. it wasn't too muddy when we went. seemed very well maintained. not much climbing, but pretty enjoyable.

Love this place. Great views on clear days. Places to cook and feed the family and great for kids

great hike up and down the mountain, lots of steep climbing up rocks at times. definitely higher end of moderate rating. family friendly too. we were unsure if kids in our group 5 and 7 years old, would be able to do it, and they made it to the top successfully and safely! highly recommend with beautiful view of the top. as mentioned before, you can drive and park up at the summit too. we saw a wedding ceremony take place at the top as well.

My fiancé and I hiked it with an eight year old and our pup. There were some steeper places. But overall completely doable and enjoyable for everyone. The views from the gazebo at the top make it well worth it!

avoid after lots of rain. way too many mosquitoes and muddy.

Hiked this with my teenage daughter. Very steep at times and most of the trail is an ascent. I would rate this as hard more than moderate. If you go to the top you might as well go up to the summit. Very pretty views of the Lake.

Short but slightly strenuous hike in the Lake George Wilderness Area. The hike is mostly up a steady incline for the 600 feet from the start but is doable even for children. Nice clearing with gazebo at the top with views of Lake George. Trail goes on a bit further from the gazebo to what signs indicate is a waterfall, we didn't do that portion. Day we were there a few other individuals and families as partaking in the hike but not overly crowded.

On Thursday night from the mid summer to Labor day, I recommend a sunset hike to the summit and a walk down the road to a car overlook just before the trail first cross the road. About 9:30 they have a fireworks show down in Lake George Villiage. You will have a spectacular and unique view of the fireworks. If you just want to see the fireworks take the 25 minute hike from Smith street to where the trail cross the road at about 0.55 miles and go to the right (uphill) on the road about 1/4 mile to the car overlook to view the fireworks.

wonderful hike with gorgeous views from the summit!

worth a trek up if you're in the area. the views from the top are great and the steep trail gives a nice taste of adirondack hiking without the endurance requirements of an adk high peak.

amazing hike with serious ascents. the trail is well marked and almost entirely shaded. yes. it is rocky. sturdy shoes a must. hiking poles recommended. other hikers describe crowds. not our experience on a summer monday. we saw a few folks each way. at the top you will pop out on a park road. go left to find picnic tables, bathrooms, cold water, and a great view of lake George.

Great views of Lake George.

Did this hike as my first time taking my 9 year old daughter out by myself. She loved it and the view was great. I liked that we frequently had people passing us by since we it was just the 2 of us. People of different ages and dogs were all present.

Awesome hike

GF and I did this hike after a full day of basically non stop rain. The rocks were slippery so we decided to stay slightly astray from the trail as walking in the dirt was safer.Red trail is really well marked and simple to follow.Starting at the stairs we made it to the summit in 1:13 and that was with a few short stops here and there. We were fortunate enough that not many people had driven up so it was not crowded.Windy but it felt great in a humid day.Views were fantastic.I would suggest hiking shoes and we had trekking poles which helped but this is a very manageable trail. Our round trip was 3:05 but I took quite a few pictures up top.

Great hike with amazing views. Trail was a little difficult for my young kids. At the top the park rangers have a water cooler station to refill bottles.

if you want to make this a much better hike and not pay the high price of $6 for parking right on old stage road you'll see a small parking lot that can hold around 10 car or you can parl along side the road if full. this spot will take you too 2 great overlooks. you see on the this map the dotted line call high point road. the second overlook is were hang gliders jump from. then take escarpment trail that will take you into the park and you'll be on Indian trail. this will make your hike a 100 times better.

a fun trail full of critters and a great view.

Moderate is a little off. I’d say hard. The runs are straight up for the first half, over rocky terrain. The second half of the climb is steep but fun. The view at the top was well worth it! Only complaint was that it summits at an area that is basically a parking lot and picnic area. Shame on me for not reading more about this climb. I do not like to hike to something everyone else can drive to. Although we had a great time!!!

Cool wildlife but it smelt really gross.

Well-maintained trail that culminates with a beautiful view of the Lake George valley. It is NOT for the novice hiker, as you will experience significant stretches of steep terrain along the way. Bring plenty of water and prepare for a good cardiovascular workout!

beautiful walk nice quiet beach

The bike ride was a quick loop, took about a half hour to go around (maybe less). We found a view of the water and parked our bikes. We took a steep trail down to the beach and enjoyed the view and the breeze. Very nice and relaxing afternoon. I wouldn't recommend this trail if you are looking for a work out, but was pretty, well kept and overall a pleasant experience.

The trail is wonderful and I would give it a 5 star rating were it not for very poor sign posts.
