Great trail, amazing views! We used snowshoes to the lower lake but they weren’t necessary (1/21).

Great quick hike close to Denver. Trailhead has plenty of parking around 830am on a holiday. The snow was packed but you absolutely need spikes or tracks. It was slippery! I could not find the first falls due to the frozen water and no sound, and the second main fall was frozen solid but pretty to see. There is a sign right off to the left of the trail. Look for it. I passed a few people who said they missed it. I could not catch the loop on the way back from the hike, at the other trailhead. Either it was snowpacked or not clearly marked. I just went back the way I came. Only annoying thing, even though there were plenty of signs about leashing the dogs, but there were so many dogs off leash and dog poop bags on the side of the trails...some dogs friendlier than others. I have a friend that has been traumatized by a dog bite, and unfortunately, she could never come since people don’t care about the rules. I came for a hike, not to greet 50 dogs.

did this yesterday (1/20) it was beautiful but so windy and cold at the top. I used my snowshoes up and spikes on the way down. the trail is packed enough that spikes and poles would be fine the whole way. great trail with nice views!

Did this trail last weekend up to Sanitas and took Sanitas trail down. Snow packed for a good amount with a thin layer of snow. Going down Sanitas was much trickier with ice. Beautiful way to climb Sanitas.

Great loop if you’re in the mood to hike but not kill yourself with ridiculous incline. Beautiful views throughout but the summit by one of the falls is

DO NOT TRY TO TAKE GOOGLE MAPS ROUTE WITH MOUNTAIN BASE ROAD IT'S CLOSED! Did half this hike on 1/12/19. Snow packed trail approx 4-8 inches great for snow shoeing but can be done with yak tracks! Did the trail clockwise and there's a pretty decent incline about 1/3rd of the way in. Didn't make it to panaroma point due to starting really late but I would highly recommend and am planning to go back soon!

Enjoyed the serenity and the views. The history behind the fan is amazing. Great place you close your eyes and enjoy the sound of the water. Loved it.

Completed on 1/19 morning...snow is packed for the first mile then becomes a mix towards the top. We completed this just in our hiking boots but fell into the snow quite a bit at the top. Spikes, snowshoes, or poles would have been extremely helpful towards the top/summit. Extremely windy/cold at the top, if you can find cover behind a rock you will get great views of Mt Evans.

trail was snowy so we walked the road up. saw a herd of deer! pretty hike and really easy.

amazing winter hike. snow was loosely packed, not icy. I hiked in just boots with good grip. get out here when the snow is fresh, it's stunning!

Great views along the way.

Beautiful trail, especially in the snow. Many trails to choose from in that same location. If you aren’t from the area, pay $5 before entering and put the pass on your dashboard.

Excellent hike!

We did this on New Year's Day after fresh snow and the views were absolutely stunning. My favorite Boulder trail that week. Added the Chapman loop to it.

Snow packed, great trail to upper lake. Traction was ideal, snowshoes not necessary at all. Clocked 9.9m, 2100’.

12/8/2018 - A good amount of ice on the trail, so I would recommend spikes at minimum, but a fresh dusting of snow left the trail impassable with about 0.7M to the end (~1.5ft of snow, and I only had spikes on). Most of the snow on the first half of the road had melted, so not ideal for XC skiing or snowmobiling anymore I’d imagine. Only option for parking is illegal street parking.

Hiked this trail 4 days ago. It was icy with light snow coverage. I used micros which helped a great deal. The frozen waterfall was beautiful!! A great winter hike. I look forward to doing this hike in the spring.

perfect quick hike, and the views were great! microspikes were very helpful, and it is pretty windy at the top so bundle up!

Want to test your new microspikes out? This is a great hike. Hard because it ends with an incline. Strava mapping wasn't as great at calculating the distance/elevation gain- was more than 2 miles off (said we hike 11.2 versus the listed 8.7). Enjoy!

Completed this hike on 1/6/2018 and it was the perfect mid afternoon hike. Not too hard, not too easy in some parts but overall, one of the best day hikes close to the Denver area. The first mile or so will require spikes/yaktrax just to help with the slipping of the snow but the last half mile is not covered and does not require traction. It is always windy at the top so if you plan on spending time up there this time of year, go prepared with some layers. Had an excellent view of the sun setting above Mt. Evans and it probably got better as it continued to set. Parking was easy as there was a lot of it in the designated pull off.

Snow packed, well used, and a bit of ice so ice spikes were definitely helpful. Nice hike. Some nice scenery along the way.

In this side of the park, Alberta Falls is the entrance location to most trails. It’s very pretty, but there’s definitely a lot of foot traffic.

Whenever I go hiking, I zoom right by because there’s always so many people. The further back you get into the mountains, there’s (obviously) less and less people.

No snow- nice and easy trail, took out of towners on it and they were fine! Good for a stroll

My first hike in Co. Easy trail and beautiful views! Fairly marked trail, not too much traffic too. Great place for pets too

Lovely conditions on 1/5/19 - snow covering 95% of trail to upper Chicago lake. Most of trail has packed snow, due to heavy use, but adequate to snowshoe, which we did for part, but using micro spikes was ideal due to rocky trail (particularly, the type that have crampons - I use Hillsound, rather than little yaktracks). I snowshoed on the lower reservoir lake surface, which looked to be solid ice. However, use caution...

Nice hike, well marked trail for the most part, beautiful views at the top. doesn't take more than a couple hours to complete the full trip!

Great winter hike! Did this one today, and there is a ton of snow, but we managed with just spikes. There were a lot of people snowshoeing and cross-country skiing -- good trail for that as well. The lake is completely frozen over, but the views are amazing.

It's a good workout with great views. NOTE.... the driving directions via Google maps is NOT the best way to go. Check another map source before you start the car.
