ditto everyone's comments on how great it was. the negative was finding the path down to the pool. its not a trail but more a goat path along the back rim of the pool. when you arrive, go to the back side of the pool by veering right off the trail. you'll get to a semi flat spot just left, above the falls. from there climb the rocks along the edge and you'll go over the top and back down where you go straight down to the water. not as hard as it sounds but not easy to find.

Absolutely beautiful! Steep, but so worth the burning in your legs!

My favorite hike on the Columbia Gorge. Definitely a workout but the view is totally worth it!!!

Tough hike but worth the effort.

Nice hike along the river. Lots of berries & different features. Moderate traffick. Difficult to find at some points. Over all, a nice hike.

Such a good trail! Definitely expect to be climbing, lots of switchbacks, but it’s well maintained and the view was stunning at the top. Stopped by a small picnic table on the way back down to give my pup a short rest and eat a snack. Very dog friendly but i’d recommend your dog be in pretty good shape because it’s all straight uphill with almost no flat spaces to recover on.

Took 5 Kids did great !! Recommended foot ware and pack snacks and plenty of hydration!! Pool is super cold takes your breath away but worth it !! A bit of steep rocky area to get down to main pool must be in decent shape and have stability with balance !!

This is a difficult but fun trek up to a beautiful summit. The last bit is a challenge but the 360 degree view is incredible and well worth it. We saw a lot of wild flowers, berries and fungi along the way and made several photo stops as the view is spectacular at several points along the way. Bring water and sunblock, there’s a good portion out from under the trees.

Steady uphill hike with a beautiful view from the top.

good for spotting wildflower's

steep but great views at the top. well marked trail.

Trail has essentially no markings and is too often just a logging road. There are some really nice shaded, forested sections, but no really spectacular views. The last part of the loop (1/4 mile plus) is the paved road to the parking lot at the reservoir. Glad I had AllTrails map and a good compass. Take lots of water and snacks.

awesome, grin a bare the last 2miles. But it's worth it!
Take food and water for lunch at the top

Definitely a workout on the legs and knees, but worth it. Always come prepared! It can be quite chilly and windy at the top. We took a little side trail loop on the way down - it was a nice change in scenery and much warmer.

Very steep trail that is more dangerous coming down than going up. Loose rock on the trail rolls easily under your feet. USE TREKKING POLES!

It's beautiful and serene.
I walked the surrounding trails afterwards.

Barking sea lions is the first thing that comes to mind. They were loud about midway down the trail. There were muddy spots, but branches and rocks helped me get through. The views in the meadow at the end are nice. You have to hunt through the maze to get even better views. I didn't know there was a waterfall in the cove until a nice lady told me so. In the morning the cove was mostly a silhouette, but I can see the falls in my brightened photo after the fact. The cove would be lit better at midday or in the early afternoon.

Great hike - be prepared that it's all up hill going out. The ending is worth it though!

This is my second time on the Kings Mountain trail, my husband runs the Elk-Kings route routinely. The beginning of the trail is covered in majestic ferns and the end in wildflowers and views of Mt Hood and Coastal Range. One is deep within the forest almost to the top and this is why we felt it would be safe to take along our very energetic 5 year old. To our surprise he made it to the summit within 2.5h with lots of breaks and a picnic on the way up (and down). The trail itself has a lot of scree so he held onto us for those sections. He did fantastic scrambling. He was equipped with proper shoes and a vest. For a strong single kid with two parents to mind them this is certainly feasible.

Tamolitch Blue Pool 8/11/18

My group planned to arrive early to Blue Pool, but a fatality on Hwy 22 caused us to take a 2.5hr detour. We arrived way later than we wanted to. Parking was already out on the highway at 1:15pm. This hike is about 2 miles in and 2 miles out. It’s a fairly easy hike that is shaded most of the way. The scramble to get down to the Blue Pool is a bit trickier, but doable. Just take your time. We had a group of 10 and only 5 of us were brave enough to go into the 37 degree water. If you decide to go in or walk around barefoot, I highly recommend water shoes. The rocks were extremely painful on the souls of our feet. Lots of hornets by the water, so be careful. We only saw 2 people jump from the cliff. This is extremely dangerous as several people have died over the years. Since this was a warm August Saturday, it was crowded with hikers, mountain bikers, dogs and children. I definitely recommend going early, on a weekday or in the off-season. It was still a great hike with breathtaking views. The shades of blue are indescribable. There are restrooms at the trailhead of Blue Pool. Also, if this was too short of a hike for you, definitely piggyback Koosah Falls or Sahalie Falls with this one. We would have, but with our unexpected detour, we ran out of time and needed to make the long trek home. Happy Hiking!

Beautiful trail.

Best friend and I did this in the cold of winter. Well worth it even during the cold. We went off the path and made our way around the pool. Absolutely beautiful.

This is an amazing site! Expect it to be really crowded but the pool is worth seeing! Also don’t expect to swim much, there’s a reason why all the pictures don’t have people in them! The water is almost ice. Pretty easy hike in! Follow all our adventures on Instagram @themicrotourists!

Great easy and comfortable hike on a very well maintained trail. Great trail for company who is not acclimated but wants a big payoff for the effort. The water was very cold but not unbearable and the hike down was not as bad as some post made it seem. Go around to the opposite side and the trail is very user friendly. The anticipation of the water is worse than the water itself. Very enjoyable, casual and non-taxing.

Great hike, up hill on The way back was rough but well worth the hike. You can heat sea lions from
The look out!

Great hike but very rainy day. Was not prepared and did not bring trekking poles. We got to within half a mile of the summit and turned back when the wind kicked up and light hailing started. Will return soon to finish and possibly do the elk loop. On the way down I felt we didn’t need trekking poles tho they would have made it safer. Even with very wet conditions and proper shoes, our footing was solid. Got passed several times on the way down by gazelle like trail runners.

A little on the easier side, but still really pleasant. By noon it was heavily trafficked.

3.5 out of 5 seems like a fair score.

My boyfriend and I went on this hike today for the first time. Now, this may be easy for others who are more physically fit and active lol.. but for people like my boyfriend and I who are overweight have had a hard time coming back. It was the longest we’ve ever hiked but man was it beautiful! Totally worth it. I saw a few centipedes, butterfly’s, squirrels, and heard some seals. We are now very sore and probably won’t go back for awhile lol at least until we lose some pounds. This isn’t for beginner hikers! I repeat! Not a beginners trail! Unless my boyfriend and I just suck lol. We made it though! Woohoo!

Well defined trail to the pool but more difficult to get down to the water. Totally worth the hike down.
