Did this trail on 12/30/2018 and it was a really nice trail. Well marked, a bit muddy in spots but completely manageable. The uphill was gentle and the view at the top was beautiful. Perfect for a nice group outing on a beautiful day. I wouldn't call it "challenging" (barely moderate?) but it's got enough uphill that people with knee issues may have trouble.

I agree with the other reviews that this should be considered moderate. Had some difficulty finding the trailhead, but it was a great hike otherwise.

Great hike! Highly recommend going about a mile past Annapolis Rock to Black Rock Cliff. Great views and not nearly as crowded. Go early ..... I finished my hike around 12pm and by that time the parking lot was packed and I noticed a good amount of people starting the trail. A bit muddy in some spots.

Awesome 5 miler. Moderate uphill hike on the way. Great for those getting back in to shape or even for light trail running. The 55 degree weather in January didn’t hurt! Will do this regularly. About an hour away from Montgomery County.

Waterfalls were beautiful! Fun trail! Great day for a hike.

My wife, daughter, granddaughter, and I hiked this trail last Sunday. It was a great hike, but a little longer and tougher than we expected. The falls were beautiful! The trail after the falls was mostly inclined with lots of rocks just the right size to twist an ankle. Well marked trail.

Great hike, but got crowded.

I love the uphill battle. Stop at Piney Knob shelter. Spring near by.

Nice, steady hike with a great view. Well marked and maintained. I recommended following the trail up to do Black Rocks as well. It only adds about 2 miles to your total and also has some nice views.

This trail needs some maintenance. There are 20-25 fallen trees that are down on the trail. For someone day hiking this is not an issue but there are camping sites along it which requires more gear and larger packs.

Pretty beautiful trail but it is a little rugged! We were supposed to be on another earlier trail , but we got lost, so we were on this trail! The falls on the half way are worth to visit! Gorgeous
My 4 year old son made it! Proud of him

Nice open trail. A steady incline at the beginning but pretty level afterwards. Beautiful view at the top.

Went out today on trail and was pretty good. We did do the trail in reverse so the falls were the last thing we saw. There are a lot of people biking on this trail though so watch out. Not all the bike riders were willing to give a heads up they were coming, which is difficult when you have two kids and a dog in tow. There were also a great deal of people walking with their dogs, they were all on leash and very nice. Overall I was amazed how many people were out on the trail even the day after the holidays, so i can only guess how busy it must get the rest of the year.

This is a terrible trail. It is not marked at all so you end up walking on game trails half the time. The trail has not been cleared for years and has thorns everywhere and a ton of fallen trees blocking the trail.

Great hike. Went in December 2017. The view at the top is spectacular.

This trail has a really long incline. Once you reach the flat-ish section along the ridge, it is nice. When it's 25 to 30 degrees and midweek, you have the trail to yourself

The trail started off level near the trailhead and became steadily rockier as I continued on. By the time I reached the first glade, the trail was very rocky.

The waterfall was breathtakingly beautiful. It was partly frozen, but still roaring.

The trail was well marked with blazes and I thought it was moderately difficult.

Great trial. Probably would rate this moderate instead of easy. With all the leaves on the trial. It’s hard to see all the rocks on the trial.

This is a beautiful Maryland trail to hike. We went on a chilly November day so it wasn’t too crowded. Well worth it, very pretty overlook. Took us about 2 hours 15 mins.

I've done this trail 3 times now and it is one of my absolute favorites. The accessibility and parking is wonderful, and it's far enough away from the cities to make for a nice and quiet experience once you are past the initial part that runs along the highway. The fall colors are wonderful and the rocks themselves are so fun to sit on and look out over. It's my go to trail for anyone who can handle hiking as most people seem to be able to tackle this trail. It definitely earns its moderate rating but you get a blessing for your knees as once you get to the top of the initial incline you are treated with a few miles of flat-ish trail. Go treat yourself to Black Rock as well, it's worth it and still on level trail so it's not that much harder to get to.

One of my favorite short hikes in Maryland. Typically do an evening hike to catch the sunset while having a little picnic. Usually popular in the fall. Good for hiking and trail running. Easy trail open to all levels.

Annapolis Rocks offers one of the best views in the area especially during the fall when the leaves are at their most colorful. The hike itself is not strenuous, the grade is mild from the start all the way to the rocks. There is no worry of getting lost on this trail either. Once at the rocks, you can get some amazing pictures of the landscape but do be careful if standing near the edge. If you're lucky you might see some rock climbers scaling the face of the rocks as well. Great hike for families and dogs! Especially dogs, you will see a lot of those. This trail does require dogs on leashes but do be warned that the odds of unleashed dogs coming up to you and befriending you is quite high.

Awesome day trip hike. I’m an avid hiker struggling with some ankle instability and injuries. It was perfect to work on this on a 5 mike trek. Very muddy as we got an inch of rain yesterday. But that may have kept the crowded away. It was 59 degrees and sunny. We arrived at 11. No trouble parking and not crowded at all. Great experience.

Rugged trail.

Great trail. It is quite rugged, but the views are worth it. We hiked it right after a snow so the falls were flowing beautifully. Would recommend having plenty of time to navigate the boulders and explore. Would definitely do again!

Map has factual and attribute error, attribute bias. Trails all run together and overlap. Highlighted trail is not soapstone trail. All trails overgrown and mostly unmarked. Really sad.

Beautiful fall morning for a hike. Snow-covered trail on the way out. Muddy soup on the way back. Normally it’s very crowded, but the weather and snow keep the crowds down.

Beautiful overlook in November. Muddy in sections. Well marked

One of my all time favorite hikes!

Nice walk on a beautiful day. Spots on the trail are muddy but there has been lots of rain lately. Fairly steep uphill but worth doing for the view.
