hikes to take Map

Went for an easy hike with my dog. He loved it. The water was high because of all the rain so we couldn’t make it past a certain part of the trail where the river had come up. Beautiful and easy though.

Easy side of moderate with lots of roots, mud, flat rocks.

Excellent trail, very people and dog friendly. Hike it early as it gets quite busy after 11, especially on weekends. A very moderate hike that can be made in under two hours. Take the few extra minute to go to East side of peak to get a nicer view to the east. Mt. Wachusetts is prominent to the South, but you have to find just the right spot to see Monadnock to the West. Lots of hawks during migrating seasons.

Great Hike!

Very beautiful scenery! Hard hike but sooooo worth the view and a great adventure to explore the outdoors! Love this trail! It’s challenging!

Super nice hike. Well marked trails. Most people are really dog friendly.

Took the clockwise loop up Midstate to Wapack... less steep. Couldn’t see a view from Nuttings Hill but the views from Watatic were very good. I was the only person on the peak when I arrived, 9:30 on a Wednesday, but the parking lot was filling up as I was leaving. Definitely one of the better views in Ma. Trails can be very confusing without a GPS. A few more signs at the various junctions would be helpful.

1 day after rain, muddy in beginning parts, dries up midway. Steep climb towards the top. Good views all around.

Good hike through very quiet trail. Confusing trails at times. All trails helped us stay on track.

Did this hike with my dog yesterday and really enjoyed it. I went up Wapack and down Marion Davis after reading some other recommendations. It was warm and sunny but conditions were really wet and muddy from prior rains, so coming down Wapack seemed like it would've been especially tough. A few sections of it were essentially a running stream, and it's got some very steep places, especially at the bottom. Both trails are rocky, but Marion Davis was a little more gradual and forgiving for the descent. Agree with others that getting to the top and finding myself in a parking lot with giant cell towers was a little jarring (that's where I dock one star), but walking down a bit to where the raptor watch was happening provided a great view and let me forget about the cars! I preferred Wapack for the giant pines and outlooks along the way -- Marion Davis doesn't provide any views.

Well groomed and marked, the trail allows you to enjoy the foliage without worrying about getting lost or rolling your ankle.

I did the north side trail Columbus Day.
It was misting and very wet and slippery and the valley was totally fogged in.
It was a bit challenging due to it.
I do this as a mom/son birthday hike every year so the weather doesn’t deter us.
This year my grandson joined us.

Nice hike! Took about 2 hours to walk both ways. Scenic view and a decent beginner trail.

Nice little hike. We had some young kids attempting a decent hike for the first time and they all did really well. The trails were wet, but we didn't really have any problems going up or down. We went up Wapack and down Davis.

Excellent hike with great views of the Quabbin and surrounding areas.

Pretty hike with a nice view from the fire tower. Detour to Roaring Falls is well marked, plus a fun scramble on some impressive rock formations. The detour to the pond is worth it as well.

Did the Wapack trail on Saturday. Nice steep climb and beautiful views!

Was an overall good trail. Parts got kind of wet where there wasn’t a clear way to get across other than to take your shoes off or try to balance on the few rocks above the water.

Lower fall was gorgeous. Overall trial was really nice. Definitely need to watch your step and keep an eye on the yellow trail tags. You snake along the river the whole way. At about the half way point the trail changes to being extremely overgrown and narrow. I wasn’t trying to end up with a bunch of ticks on me this time of year so i turned around here. Got pretty muddy at that point too.

One of the best easy hikes around. Used to always do an out and back trail up Watatic, but I tried this a few weeks ago and again yesterday, and it was great! My hiking partners liked this loop better both times.

Beautiful hike however encroaching construction towards the far end of the trail makes the path hard to follow. But it was certainly an adventure!

Wapack trail (yellow) moderate climbing large rocks at times muddy after rain from Gordon last week. One hour hike up. Lots of bird watching at Raptors Migration saw falcon. No colors yet! Beautiful views though of area mountains. Took the Marion trail ( blue) down not as steep and rocky one hour down. Great afternoon hike!

Loved it my dog had so much fun running in and out of the water. The bugs weren’t to bad as long as u don’t stop for a long break!

Good cardio workout for sure

Did this trail Labor Day morning. Got to the trailhead at 9am and there were no other cars in the parking lot! Mosquitos were pretty bad on the bottom 1/2 so highly recommend bug spray. Very nice short hike - no views from the summit, but at the intersection near the top take the right - .1 mile to open ledges with lovely views.

Nice little hike. We stopped at the lower falls and it got a little busy. There are a lot of dogs off leash which was nice to see.

I loved this trail-it has something for most levels and an endless amount of trails to cover. We are not good at the map reading so we would have liked the markers to be a little bit clearer...other than that - super awesome!

Update-went again today and trails we took were for the most part, clear. Awesome day once again!

Great hike. Fairly well marked, though some of the trees with marks on them have fallen. The waterfall is not part of the loop, but is easy to find. The trails are well maintained but tend to be buggy and muddy so I reccomend wearing appropriate footwear.

The trail is overgrown big time. If you want a claustrophobix hike and practice dodging branches. This is the trail for you.
