We went out to the lighthouse and back on 4-20-18. The tide was out all day, so it was great to be able to explore everything, go up into the lighthouse, and not worry about getting back before the water came back in.

Went for our first time today and it was a very beautiful hike. Only made it about 3 miles up and the whole trail is snow and ice. Had our dog and he had a blast. Did not see one person there. Very peaceful and the river and waterfalls are amazing. Will definitely go back during the summer to make it to the top. Hardest uphill hike I've ever done though.

Excellent hike / workout that is sort but sweet - beautiful views at the top!

I hiked this 4/08/2018 and it was a beautiful trail a little more than half way up we hit ice and snow and it was hard to walk I was just in hiking boots but I was determined when I made it to the lake it was frozen over with about 3 feet of snow but beautiful.

Great trail that will give you a workout. It was great for the dog. The lookout at the top was a bit socked in so the view can be a bit lackluster if conditions are right.

I chose this trail due to its Moderate rating in difficulty, but damn, it was definitely a reminder of how out of shape I am. Bring hella water. This trail does not let up, it’s literally straight steep for 2 miles. So just a little warning if you get a little huffy and puffy like me. If I would have known, I would have chose a longer hike with less of an incline ! Haha the view is totally worth it though!

Quick hike to the beautiful falls. We'll maintained, a bit of incline but doable. Very open trail, only saw two couples coming out of the trail head as we were going in. No bathroom facilities, parking across from trailhead. Dirt road going to trailhead was full of pot holes. Add extra time driving there.

great views of North and South sound

Road was closed when i got there. I had to walk extra 2 miles to the trail head, and it was covered with a lot of snow. Will come back when it has better condition.

This was an amazing trail! It was a constant workout on the way up, but only two miles, so not too bad. The trail is in great condition! Almost all of the snow was gone, just a little bit at the north view point. Both views were breath taking! Coming down was tough on my knees even with poles, but still loved the hike!

Loved it. Views of the Olympics, Cascades, Victoria Island and the San Juan Islands. Made it all the way out to the lighthouse. Watch the tide tables. Towards the end I was forced up into the rocky areas which is harder to walk on.

Very good hike. I would say moderate to strenuous. Views on top are amazing, mountains on the North view and beautiful views of Hood Canal on South view about another half mile.

One of the best trails in Washington! The scenery is breathtaking on the top.
A little icy the last part of the trails so microspikes were helpful.

Great hike, didn’t go all the way up seeing as we’re not in our best shape and we ran into slippery snow and forgot spikes. expect a solid 2 miles of all up hill. Plan to try again soon though. Tough enough to slow me down and take breaks, but not so tough that it was impossible.

I started the trail around 10. I reached the lake around noon. Luckily there was one other hiker that had started before me, or I would not have known where to go. The trail is covered in snow and closer to the top it gets around knee deep. I only had crampons but snow shoes and poles would have been nice.

Short and sweet hike with a stunning waterfall at the end! There was still a lot of ice which made for a beautiful picture. The water is clear and mountain blue.

I wish the trail went on past the waterfall or had some other off shoots to make the hike longer or give you some options to get off the main drag. The road out there was kind of rough.. I didn’t see this mentioned in the previous reviews, but if you aren’t driving an old beater truck out there make sure you give yourself at least 30 mins extra time to pick your way up the pothole dirt road. Overall great hike and worth doing!

I’d say this is more hard than moderate. It’s 10-20% grades and 2,000 elevation gain at 2 miles up and another 2 down. I’d say poles or a walking stick would be a good idea. Look up the weather conditions before you go, it was a whiteout when I got to the top.

such a beautiful trail, and at the end is this magnificent waterfall

This hike is pretty and not difficult. Lots of fresh snow so spikes weren’t necessary but did help when going up an incline. The cave is covered up right now, but the hike is still worth it. Saw a small avalanche as well. I can’t wait to go back when I can actually see the cave! Parking is about 2 miles away from the trailhead.

It was nice and beautiful but to windy at the top!

Gorgeous falls after a nice hike! Trail was dry today.

Good hike, very steep, as a averagely fit 23 year old the way up is definitely challenging and very steep without many breaks, the way down will definitely hurt if you don’t have the right shoes and a walking stick. The South point gives a nice view of Seattle as well!

Feb 11 - Great view up top on a sunny day. Wish there wasn’t a fence. Worth walking to the south viewpoint as well. Crampons not needed, only a small amount of packed snow at top.

Went yesterday and the road is closed 2 miles before the turnoff so the hike is longer than what you’ll read about it. An avalanche covered the cave entrance so we couldn’t explore but up to the right are some small waterfalls and it was an absolutely gorgeous day. A lot of hard pack snow and ice, I didn’t bring my spikes but they wouldn’t be a bad idea to have.

Easy hike to a beautiful waterfall. Family and dog loved it.

Was a tough one for me. Not a fan of switchbacks, but they are a necessary evil for this hike! The reward at the top is worth every painful step

What a rainy day in Washington, but what a wonderful Winter Wonderland at the Big Four Ice Caves!
Road was closed so it added an extra 4.4 miles (according to Apple GPS). Saw one snow avalanche and heard several. Be careful and highly recommend to stay on the trail.
My three dogs did so well, they love the snow!!
It wasn’t icy on 1/21, but snowy and slushy.

Good trail! All uphill to the lake, not for the out of shape unless you have all day. We went during the winter so it was snowy about 30 minutes into it. Beautiful view at the lake though.

hard and beautiful view❤️

So pretty!
