Did it in the snow today, slow going. was going to do the whole loop but after the summit the path was not walked over enough so I turned around, I should have worn higher boots!

Fun hike about an hour drive outside the city. Recommend for those looking for something moderate to easy.

park on the main road and find the yellow markers. steep at the beginning and you quickly read the top with beautiful views of mario cuomo bridge and the area. you then follow blue markers for the rest of the trial. lots of up and downs but not difficult. don't necessarily need hiking shoes.

One of my go to's, beautiful path flat and wide - fantastic views of the palisades, river, and bridge. Have seen bald eagles, peregrine falcons, tanangers, and baltimore orioles. Love the history of the path, and all how well it is marked withe mileage. Really cool ruins along the way too. Follow my instagram for more adventures @julie_journeys

Strange that the train ended at a road. Next time, I’d forego the yellow trail and start from the other end and just do the Hook Mountain Trail

Parked on 9w and started on the yellow trail. It was nice because the view was at the beginning (and thus also the end) of the out and back trail, but starting on the other end would’ve made more sense aesthetically. Either way, awesome hike! Great views & lots of wildlife. Almost no one was there on a Thursday

Perfect 5-mile hike. Not too hard, but definitely strenuous. Beautiful views north and south of the Hudson River and Mario Cuomo bridge.

Great trail. Very few bugs so I didn’t even have to use bug spray. The trail map needs to be updated because the very beginning and very end of the trail don’t line up with the map when using it on the trail.

Loved this hike. Nice up and down and many beautiful views of the Hudson. Most of the views and a little piece of the hike have no shade, so maybe avoid on a really hot day. Trail had more people than I’d like (started Sunday at 11), but you have to expect that being so close to the city, and even so I still had some stretches where I was alone. Perfect day hike from the city, especially when you don’t feel like driving too far north. I would go again and maybe just start really early for more quiet.

HikingGreat!

This has been our favorite hike yet! But it was much more challenging and a little longer than what we expected. We’re extremely fit people and it was still tough for us towards the end. Make sure to bring plenty of water! The yellow trail seems to turn into the green trail but it was still very easy to follow. There were no bugs, plenty of shady areas and the views we’re absolutely beautiful

I enjoy this trail and have hiked it on a few occasions. You can really mix it up depending on your energy for the day. I've hiked this out and back which was just under 13 miles by my phone. You can also do a loop using the long path and shore loop which is have the distance. Surprisingly good wildlife for bird watchers. More blue jays than you can shake a stick at, turkey vulture nest on top of of one of the southern peaks and hawks are very active and have witnessed flying under the canopy with food clutched in its talons. The views a quite nice from all paths.

Hiking

This was a nice hike along the Hudson with great views and the birds are soaring here. I started at the starting point as per this app but I couldn’t park there so I drove up the toward a little and found roadside parking and the start of a yellow trail that led me right up to hook mountain. Nice view up there. After that, this hike is all ups and downs and ups and downs. It’s a lot. I was exhausted. It’s more than 11 miles and if, like me, you like to go off trail to find cool stuff then it’s even longer. At one point, kinda halfway, you end up in a parking section....landing road by collyer.l which comes after a nice lookout point. Once you pass thru the parking area you pass an old cemetery and then There’s a lot of ups and down and paths off the main path to explore. I found an old stone structure at the top of one overlook. Remember...The parking for this hike is not near the start dot. I had to park up the road on the road and took the yellow trail up to hook mountain. Also know that all the mountains you climb up and down to reach the end you’ll have to do again to get back to hook mountain where you started and then back down that yellow trail. My legs were dying. Tip... I’d do it the opposite way next time. I’d start and only do 1/2 from the parking on landing. Look for the sign for the ice history in the area and the trail starts there and it’s an initial uphill to the lookout point.
