This was for sure closer to 10 miles one way, beautiful trail with lots of tiny waterfalls and beautiful views.

Humid but not hot due to tree and then fog cover. Occasional fantastic views. Muddy, trail runners are okay. Overall great!:)

I didn’t get to hike this. Permit denied because the trail is only open Saturday and Sunday. Only two hikes need 4wd permits as of now. Other one is on the west side of the island.

It’s an awesome and fairly easy as long as you take the right way. When it comes to a fork make sure you take the left if you aren’t looking for a challenge. The right is much steeper and can be exhausting in the heat. Many bunkers and definitely worth the view.

Great ridge trail. Challenging, but much safer than others I have hiked. Not a great hike for small children, but everyone else can enjoy it. It was muddy today, recommend hiking boats or trail runners. Tennis shoes might not cut it for some people.

Awesome hike. According to my GPS it 2.3 miles each way and all uphill. My five year old was a trooper and did it, but she has been building up to these hikes. l carried my three year old in a kid carrier and l would highly recommend a good walking stick for coming back down the summit stairs. All in all one our favorite hikes on the Island.

Leeward is on fire!

This is one of my favorite quickies. An excellent workout (1700’ elevation gain in the first .3 miles) with some unique views of Kuliouou and ‘Aina Haina.

Parking:
Park along the road before the trailhead in a respectful location. Residential parking manners apply.

Hike:
Before the trailhead, follow the paved road down and turn to the left. Just before the substation, you’ll see a trail to the right that instantly climbs into the trees.

If you get a little lost in the ironwoods, just look for a slightly worn path in the needles. Pink ribbons are visible all along the way. There are plenty of ropes for the slope scrambles near the top.

Difficulty:
This is probably not a good hike for dogs or children.

The most beautiful coastal view hike I’ve done so far! We saw a school of dolphins, it was so amazing! There’s lots of tide pools at the end that you can climb down the rocks and swim in. The trail was about 6 miles round trip and it took us about 3 hours with a few stops. The terrain is dirt and sand, low incline, just a few hills. Try to go earlier in the day when it’s not super hot like we did! Bring lots of water to drink and use sunblock!

Great hike, especially at sunset. A couple switch backs and steep parts, but worth the climb once you get to the top. Can get warm and there is no shade/breeze so bring water.

This trail isn’t much of a trail, but more of a walk through the botanical gardens to the culminating event- a large waterfall that you get to swim in! The trail is very well regulated and taken care of. There is a fee to get into the gardens, but it’s worth it at least once if you’re looking for a calm, educational stroll. The waterfall at the end is excellent, but usually crowded and you will have to wear a life vest as issued by the park. Four stars because I take visitors to this a few times a year.

Did this hike 7/26/2018 arrived at 1pm. I wish i checked the weather bc the whole trail was muddy going up. When I got to the stairs at the top there were no views because a cloud had taken over everything. As i was coming down it started to pour fairly heavily. That being said i’d do it again on a clear day

Short hike that's easy enough for everyone! Rewarding waterfall that you CAN swim in at the end!

Great hike, moderately difficult with rocky terrain. Beautiful sights the entire way up.

This is a long walk but there are some very interesting views of the coast line and rock formations in the early part of the hie. The end point is this really neat animal sanctuary with TONS of birds that don't seem to mind you approaching closely. The trek back was during the sunset (leave about 45 mins for this part of the walk) and provided spectacular views the entire way home.

mostly uphill hike, trail in pretty good condition for most of the way although some may struggle on a few muddy portions/climbs. views on the way up of west side well worth the hike even if summit is foggy. at a good clip for an experienced hiker 4 hours round trip. fair number of people on trail after about 10am on a weekend

I was not prepared for this. I did no research before going and did not have the proper footwear. That said, it was amazing. We saw whales, seals, coral beaches, and great views. The beach at the start was moderately busy. We made it back to the beach by sunset and watched it on the beach. It was New Years Eve and the fireworks during the drive home were insane. Oahu takes their new years fireworks seriously.

This was a great hike! You go through all different types of forest and terrain including a lot of pine trees and a lot of stairs both natural by roots and built stairs as well. The view at the top is breathtaking if it’s not foggy which can happen a lot in the area.

This hike is closer to 10 miles. Be prepared for passing showers and a slippery, sometimes precipitous trail. The Waimanalo end of the trail is too narrow for bikes.

Stunning views! Be prepared to endure the heat along this very scenic shoreline hike, because there is little of no shade. As you walk through the Ka’ena Point Area National Reserve beyond the stretch of sand dunes with birds nesting, you may encounter seals resting in one of the many shoreline pools. Besides packing a sufficient amount of water and a snack or two, you also may want to bring along your swimsuit, as you may need to cool off in one yourself before you head back. Easy hike if you can endure the heat.

Very beautiful, easy to follow, breathtaking view when you reach the summit.

This 'trail' is a really easy paved walk that is great for strollers/wheelchairs. The Falls and pool are beautiful. The walk brings you past tons of wildflowers and gardens and is worth the trip by itself. Bring bug spray if you are there late in the afternoon!

Beautiful hike with amazing views at the top. Super muddy and slippery during the final stretch, but completely worth it. We recorded nearly 5 miles in just over 2 hours along this trail.

Nice hike a little warm when we went today around 1000. It is a moderate hike with a lot of switchbacks, but some amazing views on top and during the climb. The climb past the pink pill box is along a ridge for a very short distance and is not for those with a fear of heights. It was moderately trafficked on a Saturday probably less trafficked on a weekday.

Go early! We got there at 9am and it was really hot and humid in the trail. There’s not much shade and the trail ends up feeling hotter because of the way it’s set up, they’re like hot pockets. Not great, pace yourself and definitely bring water & wear SPF. The pill boxes were really cool, the pink one you’ll need someone to boost you if you want photos on top of it. Incredible, gorgeous views. Worth it!!!

Absolutely breath taking and rewarding! The trail is very prominent and easy to follow. This trail really shows off the diversity of the Hawaiian ecosystem, the trail goes through so many changes of venue with regard to plant life as you hike the switchbacks up to the knifes edge Ridgeline, looking down on the most beautiful rain forests and blue ocean. You’ll constantly catch yourself turning around for a peak at the view, wondering when the summit will arrive; trust me when I say that YOU WILL KNOW WHEN YOU GET TO THE TOP, it is unmistakeable and gorgeous.

Climbing the upper section can be slippery and muddy, also look out for the tree root systems that canvas the ground because these are super slippery on decent; otherwise, it’s very manageable for any age other than the fact that is long and steep. I recommend starting super early with the intent to summit for the sunrise, the trail is very easy to navigate by headlamp. Have fun!!!!

It’s a hike! Moves you through lower island trees to a pine forest and then the last stretch puts you into the rain forest. The last third is very steep but the view is worth the effort (if the fog lifts).

Great hike. Some areas are pretty steep and lots of stairs. Worth every step for the amazing view at the top. Went early so avoid the increase number of hikes later in the morning.

We got a late start, so even with our water preparedness, we only hiked part of the route. The views we did see were pretty!

Side note: even though there appeared to be plenty of other tourists in the area we did feel somewhat uncomfortable leaving our rental car and belongings for a long period of time due to some shenanigans when we pulled into the park.
