hikes to do Map

this trail hikes up on a ridge. you can smell the wild flowers! amazing views. not entirely difficult, just a few breaks. end is great view!

Snowshoed last weekend in cold snowy weather. The trail was well marked and had a nice gradual incline. We turned around at mile 3 due to the weather so we didn’t make it to the summit. I would definitely do this Trail in the warmer months for the views. Parking lot was packed full when we returned, as there were tons of snowmobiles going up the mountain on the other side of the road. Get there early to park.

Amazing area, good first backpacking trip hike/ location!

Nice trip! Really nice trip! Hiked counter clockwise to toxaway lake the first day. The second day we took a day trip up sand mountain pass, over to Imogene and Edith lakes. Got back to camp faster than expected so fished on toxaway all afternoon and spent our second night there. Day 3 headed to Alice lake and wow! There are two sites that are towards the end of the lake and they are worth getting there early! Amazing! Swam for a while then fished all evening. We all caught nice size Brooke’s. Day 4 out was a bit longer than expected but a nice finish to the trip

Went in late August and weather was pretty chilly, mid 30s at night

Did this hike on Thanksgiving (Nov 22, 2018). Very easy hike. It was overcast the entire time, which was nice because the entire hike was through a burn area with zero shade. No snow on the ground at all, just dense clay/mud the entire time. The hot springs at the end were clearly visible as we approached, and you could see the steam over the last hill, and they are clearly marked by a big wooden fence that was constructed around them in a circle.

Air temperature was probably about at freezing point, and the springs were very warm. The hottest pool was a little too hot initially but there's a big plastic pipe that you can use to redirect the water flow from the cold river into the pool. Lots of thick cyanobacteria / algae on the rocks where the hot water emerges, but the pool was clean enough to sit in. Stayed for about an hour, didn't see anyone else the entire time we were there. Overall it took about an hour to hike in and about half an hour to hike back to the trailhead.

There was definitely wildcat scat on the trail, but I'm not sure if it was from a mountain lion or just a bobcat. Also saw some pretty big paw prints in the mud that looked fresh. Be on the lookout for forest cats.

Great short walk to a nice falls

Trail has lots of bikers on it which defeated the relaxing purpose of a hike. Gorgeous views half way into hike however.

Gorgeous views, lakes, waterfalls, everything a great backpacking trip consists of! Wow!!! Breathtaking!

Wow! First weekend in November and a perfect day to Hike. Last Mile had about 5 or 6 big switchbacks and took a little longer getting up that part, but so worth the view.

Not my favorite hike but it was definitely well worth it. Don’t be discouraged by the lack of trees from a wildfire in August. To access the hike you must drive 10 miles on a dirt road, and then you’ll hit the trailhead (this is a nicely maintained dirt road). The trailhead was beautifully maintained. It was about 50° with some patches of snow and a tiny bit of ice on Oct 26, 2018. We were the only hikers their, so it was nice to see a trail without a lot of people. 4th Of July Lake is beautiful. We did the aprox 3.6 mile round trip hike in about 90 mins.

Beautiful autumn colors along the shore. I wish the trail (which is more like a dirt road big enough for a car) were closer to the river overall. Petroglyphs neat but perhaps underwhelming after all that hiking. Unless you're looking, you might miss them. The first clue is a smaller rock to the right... then several on the left. Most drawings face away from the trail, so spotting the rock on the right is important! The trail offers no shade and it's not marked. I saw no waterfall...maybe it's seasonal?
Bring a lunch and lots of water...and be prepared to pee behind a bush if you need to go... No facilities except at the parking lot. Be familiar with the map before you leave. Must cross the dam to start the hike...go to the left. Beautiful scenery, but I probably won't do this one again.

By far one of my favorite trails in the area.

Great hike with my pup. Great views of a really cool canyon. Hiked in October.

The trail is very well maintained and relativly easy to climb. My 4 and 6 yr old had no issues. There are some geocahes and letterboxes on the hike to make it more fun.

Brought my father-in-law here and loved this trail. He is agrees it’s one of the best hikes he’s done in his life! I’m looking forward to doing this again and backpacking further!

It is not lightly trafficked July, August

Amazing views. Friendly people on the trail.

Very little snow at the top, amazing lakes. This is one of my fav hikes I've ever done. Would make sure you bring waterproof hiking boots though since the trail was a little muddy and wet

This is one of my all time favorite hikes in Stanley! I highly recommend heading down to Alpine Lake on the way to Sawtooth. It's a must see! The hike had great views after the 2nd mile or so and they just kept getting better. If you go in July make sure to bring mosquito spray! They definately do get pretty gnarly especially around the water or in the evenings. Other than the kamikaze mosquitos, he hike is beautiful. Highly reccomend!

Very easy hike. Nice view in the lake.

Uphill the entire time. The view is worth it though. We went pretty slow and it took us 1.5 hours to get up and 1 hour to get down.

one of my favorite hikes

Very pretty!

I would recommend going south, some parts aren’t well marked had s great time. At this time of year all the creeks are completely dry.

Awesome Great Beautiful easy to moderate. Can’t ask for a better day hike

Went in September, it was such a site to see. There is two ways in from bogus basin, left is a dirt road (faster) the other was a paved road. 4x4s can go left and don't recommend cars going left. App says kid friendly, my daughter who is 4 couldn't finish. If going in September bring cold weather clothes. Boise can be 90 and up there can be in the 5Os. 5 bucks to park your vehicle up there. Enjoy the amazing views to the north. Have fun
