Hiked Blanca Lake August 18th-19th. As you may have seen, the service road that leads to the trailhead is inaccessible (due to previous flooding) so the parking is on the side of the service road leading up to the area. In other words, don’t worry about parking because there’s plenty of room. Unfortunately, walking that service road to the trailhead is about 2 miles, which makes the total trip a clear cut 14 miles. Since I was planning on staying the night at the lake, I had about 25-30 pounds worth of gear in my pack and wow it made this hike so brutal. Essentially, the 3,900 feet of incline is really in the 5 miles of the actual trail, not the service road. It took my sister and I about 3 1/2 hours to get to Blanca Lake and still another 3 hours to get down back to the car the next morning. Once you reach Virgin Lake, you’ll start hiking down to Blanca Lake. Like other people have said, bring at least 2L of water if not more and make sure you have plenty of time to hike this trail. It’s gorgeous. Enjoy!

Definitely not for sissies or if you out of shape like me. My 19 year old Army son didn’t break a sweat. Totally worth it. Too bad it was smoky to see all the beauty!

The water was absolutely amazing and cold! The views were good too. We went to the lookout point of snow lake first, then snow lake, which took about 1.5 hours. The hike down took about 1 hour. Swimming in snow lake was really nice, not crowded at all, would recommend, great life experience to swim in an alpine lake.

Beautiful lake, but it is too smoky now. I suggest hiking this trail when smoke clears. Lake is definitely very beautiful.

Definitely a rewarding hike. I loved it.. by far my favorite place.

The lake is just magical. Must return on a clear day.

Beautiful trail, with some steep grade but the changing terrain makes it a fun hike. Views are supposed to be good too but the smoke from forest fires prevent it. Delicious huckleberries and blackberries atop were a nice treat too. I would recommend packing something more than a couple pb&js if you plan to spend close to 8 hrs on the hike like we did.
Oh also, we didn’t experience any bugs, I guess due to the smoke from the fires.

Breathtaking views at the top. I agree with the moderate rating- incline was steady but definitely manageable for a moderately-experienced hiker. Bring sunscreen for the top because there's no shade. If you love this hike, you'll also love Tolmie Peak at Mt. Rainier National Park.

Relatively easy hike to the lake, which offered a one-of-a-kind view w/ the reflection of the Mt on the water. If you're up for it, I'd highly recommend going up Tom Dick and Harry Mt. It's well worth the time, distance, and incline for the breathtaking view at the top. All-in-all, I spent about 4 hours on the trail. As others have said, get there early, parking is slim.

Phenomenal hike, definitely harder than I thought it would be but totally worth it. Snow Lake was colder but it felt so good to swim in such a clean lake :) View from the top before heading down to the lake is so worth it!!!

I found this trail BRUTAL. Make sure you have a huge breakfast and bring at least 2+ litres of water and plenty of food and snacks. Only exposure to sun is right at the top so don't worry about SPF or anything like that unless you plan on staying up there a while.

It was gorgeous and breathtaking but I can't comment on whether the physically demanding hike is worth it. That's up to you to decide.

I used the trailhead direct bus from seattle, only $2.75 and drops you off right at the bottom of the trail. These run at the weekends in summer only I believe.

Trail wasn't too crowded for a Saturday and everyone was really friendly and encouraging. Some athletes ran up and down it then back up again in the time it took us to climb up!

I’m 22, 5’1, 120lbs and I left my body and soul on the trail. This is hike is definitely difficult. It took my group and I about 3.5+ hours to get to the lake. I’d say this hike has 2 parts. The first part is the most intense, you’re going on a steep uphill for about 2 hours? It seems like never ending, never look up it’s discouraging. Bugs weren’t bad, weather was fine. The second part is when it plateaus a little then you go down hill for 1.5 hours? When you get to the lake go to the small little water fall on the left side of the lake it’s beautiful there. Water is cold.
Tip: WEAR GOOD SHOES. I wore running shoes and they were not comfortable throughout the trip
Bring at least 2L of water! You will be sweating tons
Enjoy the hike!

Nice place to hike. Love this trail.

Nice trail. A lot of the hike is spent in the woods on switchbacks but the top has some excellent views. Get ready to sweat.

Picturesque and easy.

Loved it. The stairs were rough but after that, it was amazing. The difference in views around each corner was breathtaking. Then of course the payoff at the end. ♥️

Beautiful hike, we love it

The trail was pretty good. The weather was cloudy so very soothing to sit at the top. Only drawback was mount Ranier was not visible.
First break spot is at 1.25. Miles.
2hours to go up and 1 hour to go down for us...

Beautiful hike today. Trail is in great condition. No water sources along the trail so be sure to bring enough.

Climbed Mt. Si for first time today while taking a back to school shopping break. The parking lot was not crowded. The trail was in great condition and easy to follow. It was quite the climb the entire way. It took me about an hour and 20 minutes. I thought this was great, until someone ran passed me almost at the top. It did take some others I met almost 3 hours to get to the top. I enjoyed being in the trees for most of the time until the top. I followed some others to the top of the haystack. It was quite the view, too bad it was smoky. I would recommend this hike just bring water and be prepared for a ‘great ‘ leg/butt workout.

It was harder than i thought, but the view was worth it. Wear your hiking shoes, u wont regret it. We started the trail at 7am, so it was not crowded.

Super popular trail, seriously the foot traffic.
I'm glad I did it at least once but that will be the last time.
Not a good first starter trail if you're not use to hills.
It only flattens out once you're almost to the smaller, clear lake itself.
Well kept up with trash&the maintenance but like I said-heavy traffic.

Beautiful! Moderate hike, hard on some of the switchbacks and uphill parts (depending how much weight you’re carrying). Bring a lunch to eat on the lake with a gorgeous view. Definitely worth the hike!

Great views of Mount Hood and others in the distance. This was an easy to moderate hike and I think I finished within 3 hours roundtrip with a lunch break. I combined this hike with the mirror lake loop. I’ve seen much nicer lakes but there was a nice view of Mount Hood over the lake. IThere were also some nice wildflowers near the lake. This is a pretty populated trail with not a lot of space at the Trailhead to park. There’s a lot of dogs on the trail which I enjoy seeing and I enjoyed watching them play in the water. In other words, a dog friendly trail.

Stunning views that make you totally forget you haven’t even made it to the TDH summit yet. In fact judging by the last quarter mile of trail, no one completes the summit because the best has already been done. If you want to push through, be warned that the trail is almost non existent and somewhat technical. Very few people which is nice if you do decide to go further. The place explodes into a circus line of hikers after 9 AM. The only reason it’s not a five star hike is because of its population problem. I found litter along the trail as well as bags of dog poop that people were kind enough to bag but dumb enough to leave behind. Come on humans!!

Absolutely stunning. But pretty packed. Parking is tough so get an early start.

Hiked 8/13.

Awesome hike and such a beautiful view. I definitely recommend swimming.

I got engaged by the lake when we got to the top. I’m pretty sure Andrew (from the comment below) took pictures of our proposal. The pictures are absolutely amazing! Thank you again, Andrew!

Great for training but, not really much else.

The tree cover is lovely, the views are breathtaking (if you don’t get caught in cloud cover) and the hike is a steady incline, with some harder switchbacks near the top. Only negative: it gets really packed with people.

Snow Lake is beautiful, lots of people on the trail. Not difficult so a lot of day hikers. Beautiful campsites and quiet at night.
