excellent backpacking hike!

I have previously hiked other trails up LeConte and was happy to see a change of scenery on this trail. The different rock features were interesting and the Bluff was neat. I started out early so I was able to easily find parking and avoided the crowds.

Challenging trail but, the views are amazing.

Ok, so this hike is brutal only because it is so long. I did it all, so 26 miles, starting no at 6am. It took me 6 hours to climb to the summit, and I’m not an amazing athlete though I’m athletic. It then also took me 5 hours to get down the mountain. The hike is easy when it comes to actually climbing and the terrain, but the altitude makes it hard. The trails are well marked and clear. This is my second 14er and I found it to be easier than the other one that I did, Elbert. Of you are thinking about doing it, do a steady pace and take as few of breaks as possible. When hiking at high altitude, take super short and frequent 30 second breaks opposed to less infrequent 10 minute breaks. You’ll get up the mountain way faster. Overall it’s great, but the tourists at the top are really annoying so there’s that.

A great hike, the stairs through the rock makes the hiking interesting. At the top of alum Cave, the view was ok, but the cave is magnificent. My 5 year old enjoyed it.

My favorite hike ever!! We started the hike at about 7:15am so there were only a few other people along the trail so early. Inspiration point at about 2 miles is beautiful! Alum cave was pretty neat too. Above there is where the hike really gets interesting to me. Such amazing views and some of the cliffs you are on just make it a great experience. A long hike but worth the effort. We went to the lodge and Cliff Top. I am so glad we did the spur to Cliff Top, the views were stunning!! Felt like we were on top of the world! Took us roughly 6 hours start to finnish. One piece of advice, bring food, we did not and were starving for the last few miles. The Pancake Pantry in Gatlinburg was the best $40 I ever spent afterwards.

Amazing views well worth the trek up the mountain side, the hike will take your whole day. One of my favorite places in the smokies for sure.

This was one of the most beautiful hikes to date.. I highly recommend it but be ready, We did it in 4 hrs but well worth it!!!

Walked this on the way down from the Incline. A bit steep in spots with beautiful scenery.

AWESOME TRAIL! The Alum Cave makes a great, scenic half-way point to sit and rest or eat. The second half is way more strenuous, but SO MUCH FUN! Even though it was foggy at the top, the lodge was a joy and the hot chocolate was pleasant. Looking forward to doing this one again.

Good workout! A fit person should be able to reach the summit in 45 minutes. Many stretches are rocky and prohibit trail running. A good balance of terrain verity. Hiking poles come in handy.

This was our second time taking this trail up to the lodge. Beautiful trail and the views at the top are amazing. Unfortunately on this trip at the top the fog and clouds were socked in. Still worth the journey up there.

I like to do the Peak at least once a year. It’s a nice challenge and worth it. The ascent took me 6 hours but I have done it in 4 1/2. Not my best time, obviously. I believe the average time for ascent is 8 hours. I did the ascent and descent for a total time of 11 hours. The last couple of miles are the hardest and my brain always says, “why am I doing this”! But, you just push through it and are happy to get to the top.

Make sure to dress in layers. The weather can change quickly. I like to take a camelback and I don’t bring much food. I’m just not real hungry.

The change in the terrain is always interesting It’s beautiful country. Thankful to have it as my backyard.

Total miles my app recorded was 23.85 miles.

This trail was beautiful! We hiked to the bluffs and the view there was fantastic! The scenery, bridges, arch and so much more made this trail very interesting. Something different at every turn. Will do this one again.

Great hike for training. Doing Mt. Whitney in a couple of weeks and the consistent above 8K ft. helps.

Steep going up but fun. Beautiful views, Charlotte downtown also looks great from the top

Gravel and rock trail that is, for the most part, and easy walk. Not a lot to see along the trail except for the wildflowers and butterflies, which my girlfriend's daughter found quite attractive. The view from the tower is great, even on a cloudy day. The tower platform is still locked but you can ascend to the landing just below, which offers grand views. I wouldn't call this a destination trail. But if you're in the area it's worth a little time.

Great quick hike. Did get pretty steep going up backside trail but it was pretty and worth the sweat!

Amazing hike. Nice seeing the different types of plants as the elevation changes. Leconte is awesome! We saw a large black bear driving there early in the morning as well. it poured half the trip but it was still 100% worth it.

THIS IS A MUST SEE TRAIL. One of the best views I’ve ever seen the whole way up. Every .25miles you have an amazing view whether it’s an overlook, a cave, a natural waterfall formed by the constant stream, or the huge cave opening. Highly highly recommend this one.

Great trail, but strenuous for rookies like me. First strenuous trail since becoming active again at 69. Took about three hours for 4.3 miles with 30 minute plus rest at top. First 1.8 miles moderate to easy, but last .5 miles is rocky and steep. Worth the climb with great views at the top.

Did this last weekend, great trail starts off very easy but will become more challenging the closer you get to the top. All kinds of Terrain , but definitely worth the hike and the view at the top!

Have just about every pic you could take on the mountain except at sunrise/sunset. Took some sick ones with a storm rolling through in the distance and with the sun going down.

Very good , best to do early

This trail is awesome! I hiked it on 8/2/18 and already want to hike it again. We got there early morning around 8 am and saw no one else on the trip up. The arch was really cool and the the cave was not what I thought it would look like but loved it. It rained our whole hike so being under the cave overhand was a nice dry break. The best part are the bluffs. Make sure you make it at least that far. Even in the storm the views are spectacular.

Beautiful hike ... LONG hike, but beautiful. Totally worth it!

Beautiful view. It can get windy at the top but it’s refreshing after a long hike. I live pretty close to crowders so it’s great to drive up there and get in a good workout.

Started just before sunrise to avoid the crowds, definitely worth it as we got to the top in just under 3 hours, a gorgeous view all to ourselves!

Started out to do half of the Trail, but decided to go a little further after the cave. Next thing we knew we were a mile from the top. Well, you can’t turn back then, right?! So we walked on....just before the lodge, the skies opened in a downpour! No worries, it’s an adventure! Great hike, great views (before the rain!). Definitely strenuous but doable. Go for it!

Beautiful views and a fun day hike. I used this hike to train and test gear for an upcoming trip to Mt Langley. It was a good moderate hike. Nothing crazy. I will go back but next time I’ll approach from Idyllwild and skip the tram. Once was enough for me. Cheers
