Great hike with wonderful views of the lake at the end! Scenery changes often with forest at the beginning, followed by meadows that transition into alpine vegetation and finally the overlook of the beautiful lake at the end. We found camping spots on the ridge just before getting to the National Park, but you could also camp about a 1/4 mile before the ridge and find many spots. Very difficult to actually get down to the lake. Road takes a while on the drive in/out so plan accordingly.

Such a beautiful hike! My husband and I climbed to the top of the waterfall and just soaked in the view. The water is a pretty blue green color. The trail is fairly easy. I highly suggest this hike.

I went at 10 am on a Friday morning and it was uncomfortably packed. There were at least two scout groups of about ten to fifteen kids, and two adult groups of about ten each later up the trail. Not to mention the numerous single and double hikers. Because of the crowds the hike became unbearably slow and wasn’t tranquil. I guess I am a bit of a curmudgeonly hiker.

Having said the above, Pros: pretty views, lovely foliage, usually nice weather during the summer. Cons: going very slowly due to getting stuck behind so many crowds, listening to lots of other people’s conversations, stopping often to let others pass the opposite direction, difficulty finding parking.

I will say that this is a great hike for children because it has a fun payout for not too much effort. Just be sure to use the bathroom before you get to the trailhead because the bathrooms there are so gross.

I hope you all have a better experience than I did. :-) Happy hiking!

total great! my first hike in Washington state

We made an overnight trip out of the trek and glad we did. The final mile uphill is pretty steep with a number of waist-high step ups. It was quite a climb wearing overnight packs. There were less than a dozen campers for a Saturday night in July and we located an amazing spot to shelter for the night. So the mosquitos, OMG the mosquitos! You must remain in constant motion or you'll have the woodland insects whispering the secrets of the forest in your ears. I cannot emphasize enough to bring powerful repellant or you'll be hanging out in your tent ⛺! At times inching downhill the next day makes an extremely sore following day. At times you're scaling up rocks. Another time we were throwing our bodies and packs over a fallen tree. It's an adventure!

One of the best hikes I’ve been on!

Views along this includes beautiful waterfalls, mountains ranges, river, creeks, and a beautiful view of the lake at the end. A variety of terrain includes flat & bushy, wide and flat, climbing uphill using the embedded rocks for stairs to climb up, and walking through & over large tree roots
Definitely worth it. The total out and back for us took 5 /12 hours with a few breaks on the way up.

8/13/2018 (Monday) - It's so quiet on this cool weekday morning. No car at the trailhead at 9:15. Temperature is 10 degrees lower than outside the woods. A pleasant hike in this environment. It's 3 miles to the Central Peak via Eastside Trail.

Great hike...good workout...decent elevation gain! The signage could be better!

I was super excited to see all the views with water, but sadly the water was all dried out. It’s got really pretty tree views, cool little bridges, and it’s a decent work out. We ended up getting lost and took an extra 2 miles some where off the trail lol but it was alright just more excersize and pretty views for us! Also, when you get to the “top” there’s no real view to look forward to. Not a bad hike at all, I’ll retry in the fall when I can see the water but if your looking for a view at the top, you won’t find it here.

Well graded trail 2/3 in the forest and 1/3 in the open alpine. Great views

Spectacular!!!! There was smoke from the fires but none the less excellent hiking... 8/9/18

Fantastic hike with challenging elevation, well worth with 360 view at the top

I went on the 4th of July. I lucked out with parking. Judging by the amount of cars, I considered not going but was able to get a parking spot at the trailhead. Based on the amount of cars, I was pleasantly surprised to not really meet up with too many people for the about the first mile. The rocks weren't as bad as the roots as people have mentioned. I wouldn't take little kids but I saw plenty trekking without a problem. I had a dog and encountered about 18 others throughout the day. All but one were on leashes. The mud greets you near the top. I'd say the last half mile. The worst part were the bugs at the top. I didn't notice them once I crossed the wood planked walkway. definitely be prepared. Beautiful, relatively easy hike. I'd defi do it again.

Since today was a hot and hazy August day I thought the shade on the trail would be a nice way to stay cool.
Overall, the shady center of the trail was the best part in my opinion. The first part and final parts of the trail are a little steep. I feel like Little Si is more challenging than the views are worth. However it's very well maintained and traveled.

Climbed on a hot day and the shade in the fern forests was great. One of my favorite hikes in Washington.

This is one of my favorite hikes of all time. You’ll never want to leave the top (unless of course you forgot bug spray). Such a beautiful, peaceful, lake at the top. We took floaties and got into the lake for a bit !

Very rewarding hike with a beautiful lake. Would recommend getting an early start on this one to beat the bugs and crowds later in the day. Camping is not allowed at Blanca Lake however there is plenty of camping spots at Virgin Lake.

Gorgeous hike but steep as you turn up towards Granite Mountain (vs. going to Pratt Lake). Technical as you get into the higher elevations with rock scrambling needed at times. 4 stars b/c of the bugs, the higher you go, the worse they are - esp. towards the fire tower. Late afternoon hike that took approx. 5 hours due to the scrambling and awareness needed on the uphill and downhill. Once we got out of the technical sections we ran most of the way down. Total miles were approx. 9.5 up and back.

A great hour and a half to 2 hour loop! Enough work to keep it interesting, but never too much a challenge to not be fun.

So so beautiful! But definitely the hardest hike I’ve ever done. It seemed like we would never get there but we finally did! I would definitely say take PLENTY of water. I drank 4 bottles by myself.
Check the weather before you go. We went yesterday and the weather was perfect. I think like 70-72 the whole day. I can’t imagine doing that hike in hotter weather. It would be miserable. We forgot bug spray and the bugs didn’t bother us too bad. I don’t think i have bites at all. They were only a nuisance when we stopped to take a breather. We got there and started on the trail around 11:30-12. We got back at 7:50. So it was a very long day but totally worth it. Make sure you wear hiking boots, if you don’t have any make sure you wear tennis shoes with GOOD SOLES.

The worst part was the 2 mile walk back because
It felt like it would never end.

Great trail. Easy and flat in places, a lot of incline and terrain most places. Middle falls is best view of the falls. Just passed that is a great view of the valley.

did this trail October 2017. went with a group of 4, which was a good size. it was cool in temperature but no one in the lake. cool rock wall at the lake.

Did this hike today. Started at 6:30am and it took us about 8.5 hours total, including about an hour at the lake. The climb up was strenuous, but it was all well maintained switchbacks. Once you reach the top of the switchbacks, there is a meadow, then Virgin Lake, then the trail down to Blanca lake. The hike is not technical and there are even stairs at a few points. It was well worth it for the view of the lake and several vistas along the way. I would recommend getting an early start to avoid bugs and crowds. There were only two other people at the lake when we got there around 11, and the sun lit up the lake closer to noon. We weren't attacked by any bugs until we started back down the mountain, and it was a lot busier later in the day too. Happy hiking!
