hikes to do! Map

Trail is good. It gets handsy when you start climbing around the mountain. Lots of opportunity to go to sub peaks without wasting much time. There was a little bit of snow but not much. Views are awesome! Great weather!

Nice day out there! Made it to the ridge, super windy. The trail is manly dry but some snow/ice patches, i recommend spike & pole!

Would do it again repeatedly.

I would definitely rate the hike as difficult for inexperienced hikers. The trail is steep until you reach the ridge, I feel like with ice cleats and poles it’s much easier to summit with the snow to grip onto as opposed to dirt in the summer. One of my top seven under seven (ish) for sure, great hike worth the views. Today’s weather was ideal beautiful and sunny.

We hiked Tamnuska loop today (January 13, 2019). Most sections were dry. However, spikes are needed to reach its summit.

Great workout! Beautiful hike! Highly recommended!

Clear most of the way, I recommend micro spikes for the last 3 kms. You’re in the forest most of the way but are welcomed with a great panoramic view of the mountains once you hit the ridge. I’d say this is Moderate.

I did on Jan 11th. Trail was covered with packed snow. Very steep , but end of trail was heaven. The weather was sunny, so perfect. I would like to recommend this trail with heavy icepickers. We thankful for having amazing view.

In my view. This was a great hike. First couple km is a bit hard and last 1 km the rest is very relaxing walk. The view at the top is worth every step I would rate it as moderate. Thank you All trails it helped get me started.

Completed this today as my first solo hike. All trails rates this hike as hard, I would say it’s moderate. Nice hike where the foothills meet the Rockies, currently relatively bare, with heavier snow covering the last km or so. Recommend micro spikes for the last 2/3 as the snows packed on the steep sections and relatively slippery. Easy to lose the trail closer to the summit due to snow pack coverage. Took me 4 1/2 hours total with a 35 min break at the summit. Overall, amazing views and great hike! Jan 11/2019.

Several cars were broken into at the trailhead parking lot today.

Have been hiking this for 20yrs, but this was the first time with snow and ice. Bring spikes and decent poles, some gnarly ice latches patches on the backside. Shoulder and front side were pretty clear, unfortunately very little scree left these days...

Bryce, good to know you made to the top. It was windy up there. I will be back and do the ridge walk in summer.

on Mount Baldy Trail

Hiked this trail on December 30, 2018 as my last hike in 2018. The trail was clear and almost snow free in most sections. You will get a great view when you reach the North Peak as it is the first high peak along the Kananaskis Road (east side). It has little bit scrambling. We hiked up in about 2 hours and came back in less than 1.5 hours. If you plan to register at the peak, please have a new registry paper as the old one is full!

We did Kings Creek Ridge yesterday on a bluebird day. Packed trail but required microspikes, top portions was a little wind blown and snowshoes would have been nice on the ridge but we made the summit with no issues.

Did this hike on New Years Day, 2019. Weather -2, windy on the ridge and very cold at the top. This is our first ever mountain climb and we found it quite difficult, highly recommend poles down. Slippery conditions throughout the trail otherwise dust and dirt covered with packed snow patches throughout. We over packed by a long shot, unless you're staying at the top overnight pack light. Absolutely loved it and will be back, the views are worth the pain.

Great hike we went on a very hot day so there was lots of run off on the hike out.

Have finished Baldy a few times, but recently completed the scramble to the north summit on December 24. Trail was in excellent condition, very little snow. There are areas you can bypass the scrambling and continue up scree, but continuing along the ridge is more enjoyable. The scramble entails a short, not steep downclimb with good holds and some exposure. Shortly after, before reaching the summit, you will encounter a gendarme (the crux of the route). It is right after the rock bench. You can bypass this to the right, but if you are a semi-confident scrambler or climber it shouldn't be a problem. There is some exposure so always double check holds as a fall here would be problematic. Once past this, the final path to the summit involves some routefinding. After trying a few different ways up, I found scrambling up the north side of the final summit approach was best, as there are some fun slabs to climb up and the rock seems to be more secure. Unless continuing to the south summit, go back the same way (however, doing this solo I would not recommend downclimbing the crux given that the rock may be unstable).

Awesome trail, great views the whole way! Dress appropriately for this one- even in summer.

Not hard- this trail is on the easier side of moderate.
Not many views, very forested area. Very well marked trail.
We did need our yaktrax, as there were many icy patches.

I am making this specific review 3/5 only because the trail is absolutely NOT for dogs. When I am looking for hikes that are dog friendly, I am under the assumption they can complete the trail. It is 110% not for dogs. It was challenging to get to the chains and then when I realized we definitely weren’t getting across that.. the challenging high turned to pissed off. Getting us back down the way we came was stressful and dangerous for both of us.
Also, the entire trail once you are out of the trees is so poorly marked that unless you know where you are going or following footprints, you would get lost.
I am pretty disappointed with this hike because of those two issues.
Bring poles and microspikes.
My next review may be better when I don’t have my girl - if I decide to try this hike again.

Went all the way to the top ridgeline and peak, very worth the effort. At the top during August we saw a Mama Grizzly with 3 cubs frolicking in the alpine below. Had to wait for them to get to the other side of the alpine then scurried down when they weren't around. Tons of wildlife there but the we found the trails were easy to follow, but a bit of exposure on the top. Once you get to the alpine above the mountain it's absolutely magnificent

Amazing hike...loved the Scree...

Tonnes of snow half way up.. white out conditions with more heavy snow started and we lost trail about 200 metres from top so turned back .. got up about ~500 metre gain though to 7000 feet. Will be back on a clear day. Icy under the recent heavy snow. Microspikes and poles were needed today!

Fantastic hike. Very quick to reach the summit, but very steep along the way. Not too much snow in the way, but very windy near the top. Would highly recommend if you want a great view without needing to set aside a full day for hiking.

Amazing hike would not recommend for beginners.

I did this hike yesterday and it was great! Parts of the trail are pretty dry if not dusty. There is a thin layer of snow and ice on the trail that is exposed and not protected by the trees. Higher up it's a bit deep but it has been packed down from other hikers. It's definitely doable if you have microspikes and poles. I actually thought it was easier this time then in the summer because the spikes gripped into the ground. Made for a beautiful day in the sunshine!

Hard to navigate in parts and the hike back down was tough but the views at the top are incredible

Awesome walk along the creek. We ended up walking the creek instead of the ridge but still worth it ..Beautiful views!! Spectacular frozen waterfalls.....love it ..will go back for the ridge in summer for sure

It was a gorgeous hike. We did it on December 8th 2018
Breathtaking views of creek and frozen waterfalls were everywhere. Saw few people doing ice climbing. Little tricky to cross creek few times.
Must do in summer.
