The girlfriend and I snowshoed this trail and found it to be very enjoyable. The trail up until Rawson Lake was heavily packed and easy to follow. However at the lake the trail disappeared completely and it looked like everyone hit the lake and turned back. We tried to continue on but, with so much snow fall, breaking fresh trail became tiring after another kilometer so we settled for reaching the far side of the lake, had lunch, and trekked back out. Good trail, only saw one other couple. We plan on going in the summer.

One of my favourite trails, definitely on the easier side. Beautiful views from the top

Beautiful!!! But quite hard considering I’m out of shape & it’s up up up the whole way to the lake!!!! Worth it though!!!!

The trail was compacted well enough for us all to hike with just good quality boots.
While there are more challenging hikes around. This is a very enjoyable trail with a beautiful clearing as you reach the lake.
It was perfect during the day we went.

Easy hike, without the need of crampons. Due that it is short, my friends and I have extended the trail until bow river close to the golf area and adding in our way back a visit around the coal bridge and the view of an hydro plant.

My favourite hike of all time.

It was extremely easy. We did this with our dog and in the middle of winter and she seemed to enjoy it. It was like taking a walk at the park.

great winter trail. The snow was very packed down, ended up not needing snowshoes. Easy to find and navigate.

Awesome views

Awesome snowshoe hike. The views are amazing and there was hardly anybody on the trail.
I’d rate it more easy than moderate, since the inclination is very gradual except for some hilly parts near the end. Took us
3 1/2 hours to complete it including snack and numerous photo breaks.
Can’t wait to see the lake in summer!

Good moderate hike, we started early and no one was on the trail. As we descended from the lakes the trail became a bit more busy. Round trip 4 1/2 hrs.

Took to this trail with very little preparation and as a novice hiker in mid-late November 2017. Beware there was no parking lot nearby so we just ended up parking on the side of the road and leaving a note. The area has received a decent amount of snowfall in the last few days so the surrounding areas of the trail has fresh snow, maybe a foot or more deep in some places. The trail looked to have recently been hiked but we saw no one during our three hours on the trail. We started at about 10. My fiance and I take a lot of pictures so we didn't make it to the top, but we felt that we got close. I highly recommend crampons for hiking during the colder months that the area is still open for the season. There are areas of the trail that were a little slick or loose. Even though we didn't have crampons, we did have water proof boots and that got us through fine. But it would have been safer with the crampons. Even though we were beginners and the conditions were the way they were, the trail felt doable. As long as you have a sense of adventure and are fairly in shape for the conditions, it'll be great. Our breath was taken away during this hike!

Would recommend cleats in the winter. Nice views throughout the hike. Make sure you get on the walking trail and not the biking trail.

One of my favourite hikes. Not too long and worth the views.

I did this on Remembrance day. It was beautiful. The snow was up to the thigh at some point. On the way back, I could hear the avi sounds. So, just be careful out there.

lake was frozen so fishing was impossible

Beautiful scenery. Lots of variety. Definitely need the right gear at this time of year with all the snow. Stay left of the rocky gully on the way down. It’s a bit sketchy with the snow and ice. Take the adjacent avalanche gully. Much easier and faster decent.

This was a great hike and the views from the ridge were 110% worth every step! It does get steep going up from Rawson Lake to Sarrail Ridge and the trail got muddy and slippery on the way down, but between the parking lot and Rawson Lake was fine.

Did this one Oct 15, 2017. Well established trail, first part along Upper Kananaskis Lake is a gradual incline. Then gets more steep as you go away from Upper Kananaskis Lake towards Rawson Lake. Used crampons on the steeper part and they were so helpful. Highly recommended. A little snow and ice which gradually got deeper towards Rawson Lake. I would rate the trail from the parking lot to Rawson as easy but I would rate the trail from Rawson Lake to Sarrail Ridge as hard. It's very steep. I wouldn't attempt it without crampons but there were lots of younger people doing it in runners. To me that's too dangerous. The snow at the top was about knee deep but the views of both Upper and Lower Kananaskis Lakes was gorgeous.
Btw there is a potty at Rawson Lake but make sure to bring your own toilet paper.

Gorgeous winter hike! Views are spectacular! When you get to the lake, you may see some Whiskey Jacks, which are pretty grey and white birds. Hold your your hand with a little bit of trail mix, or some crust from your sandwich and they will eat right out of your hand.

The trail is currently snowy which results in an easy to follow trail, but it gets wet and slick so prepare accordingly. There will be some snow scrambling and the views are incredible. The Ridge was very windy today and I didn't have extra clothes so I turned around at the false peak (started clockwise). I'll be back in summer to complete it! I would say the scramble is more difficult that "moderate", though.

great place

Amazing hike today to the top of Sarrail Ridge! Crampons came in handy about 30 min into the hike as there was snow and was a little icy in a few spots. There were a few people that made it to the top in just running shoes however! Absolutely worth the trek up, don't let the steep middle section of the climb turn you around as that's the hardest part. The view at the top is one of the best I've seen so far @ 7730 feet! Going down took about 45 min and was not as bad as we thought. Again, crampons for the win. The whole hike took us 5 hours. Words can't explain the feeling at the top. Definitely worth it.

Amazing trail! There is quite a bit of snow though so come prepared:)

Great trail! i absolutely love it! except the "boring" part

Gorgeous hike/trail run. The views are great along the ridge. I went counter clockwise and it seemed like I was the only one doing that. It was fine, but I suggest using spikes.

Great hike, easy. Tried to do the waterfall loop but too icy and snowy, will come to do that portion during the summer. Great views

Best hike I’ve done so far. I went yesterday (October 5,2017) and the steep trail to sarrail ridge isn’t covered with snow just yet. A must hike and no words can describe how beautiful the view is up top when you get there. Definitely not an easy one not exactly hard either but it’s all worth it. For sure my favourite views of all time.

Counterclockwise- amazing hike. And I would recommend the counterclockwise over clockwise as clockwise was going up over less of an incline but a vastly longer stretch that would add up. Counterclockwise was quick and straight up that had us climbing on 4s for a tiny bit. Your choice. That said the views are unrivalled up top and the radio antenna (not a Tim Hortons) was a fun place to meet other hikers. If you bring a pooch bring minimum 3L of water, dick all for ponds. You'll find trails spin off without signage or direction but follow the arrows on the ground left by other hikers. X means don't go that way! Have fun
