Great weather yesterday at Chasm Lake! micro spikes from trailhead to lake and I was glad to have my ice axe for the last half mile. Be careful and enjoy!

Nice hike. A bit icy near top but worth the views and quietness.

Very enjoyable! Plenty of trails to pick from. There’s about a foot of snow right off the trail but much more if you go too far off. You see elk and wildlife here and there. Woods but if you go to perimeter trails then you see meadows. I used my basic spikes (smaller less heavy duty) over my hiking boots and it was a great hike!

Did this hike in the beginning of fall. Aspens were starting to peak and it was absolutely gorgeous!! Would do this hike again in any season, it’s awesome. Very dog friendly and the trail is thin so if your dog isn’t quite friendly, be wary of passing dogs. The only thing that turned me off was the amount of dog poop bags along the trail. Pick up your dogs poop!! It’s stupid to just pick up your dogs poop and leave it in a bag as trash, id rather you not even pick it up. Lastly, it’s off roading to get to the trail head and parking fills up fast, so get there early. Awesome hike!

Broke a new trail past the ridge to the lake after the most recent snow. Definitely slick and exposed, but manageable with microspikes. Beautiful winter hike!

Went with Greeley Active Adults Group. Started about 11am and returned about 2:15 pm. Took trail to intersection with Michigan Lakes trail, about 2.5 miles up, then turned around to come back. Trail had about 6 " snow and was ideal for snow shoes. Weather was cloudy with light snow coming down, temp cold but no wind. Surrounded by trees, it was a winter wonderland! Also saw some cabins and water infrastructure. A great snowshoe for beginners and for first of the season snowshoeing!

Date: Jan 8, 2019
Cost: $3.00
Conditions: Sunny, calm, Mid 20s

Pros: Gorgeous in winter. Easy (relatively flat). Suitable for snowshoes or cross country skis. Amazing views of 12,484' Nokhu Crags and later what I believe is 12,270' Iron Mountain. Lovely cabins about 1 mile in, fantastic photo opps.

My experience: Snowshoed 2.1 miles in, had lunch and turned and went back.

Cons: I've heard it can be trecherous when windy.

A must do

Just hiked the Staunton Ranch trail toward Elk Falls past Sunday afternoon. Clear, well marked trail. Great views.

Hard packed to split. Floatation was ideal after as postholing was unpredictable.

Beautiful!

trail in great shape for this time of year, no ice!

Good hiking trail. Beautiful view of Mt Evans from the Brothers Outlook. Trail had some snow pack on it but didn’t need micro-spikes to hike it today.

This was a fantastic hike. Excellent trail, beautiful scenery and not too difficult. It could be hot in the summer but it would be perfect any other time. We followed the SR to BE up to the lake and took Marmot Passage (MP) out and it was almost exactly 10 miles. The MP part had the best views and connected back to SR. One of our favorite new hikes.

As another review stated, snowshoes weren’t necessary until the split. The trail is packed hard and wide. Lots of people and off-leash dogs (most under control and near their owners, some not. Off-leash is allowed here. ). Beautiful scenery on both ends of the split in the trail!

Great hike! I arrived around 11 on Wednesday this week and parked across from the post office in Glen Haven. I did not see anyone on the hike up and only ran into two groups on the way down. Beautiful and challenging hike. Worth the view when you get to the top! There was some snow, but it was packed...just wore hiking boots and managed fine. Definitely heading back during warmer seasons to check it out, but it makes a great winter hike!

Did this hike on 12/28/18. Snow shoes not necessary for the first mile and a half. After that, they aren’t necessary but would be helpful. Snow is pretty deep after the split in the trail. We arrived around 9:15am and only saw a few people on the way out, everyone was on snow shoes or back country skiing/boarding. Got back to the parking lot around 11am and it was busy. Lots of off leash dogs running around. Absolutely amazing views, definitely recommend this hike!!

I was able to jog this up and down in just running shoes with a little caution. It’s gorgeous in the winter! Make sure to go the extra couple hundred feet to sprouting rock.

One of my favorite hikes. IPW is fantastic.

Fun "wander around" trails. Worth the trip.

Classic hike. GREAT views towards the top - bit of a grind on the way. Bit of scrambling to get to the lake shore.

A bunch of Powdery snow fell the night before so it was a A wonderful trail for a snow hike. Early morning hike. The temp was -1 so we bundled up a bit more than normal. We loved the quiet serenity and the elevation gain/drops were easy. Lots of animal tracks and some deer spottings. We wore crampons to navigate the snow but no ice.

Great trail for a half-full day adventure the view at the top is so worth the trek. It may be a tough little hike for small kids, out of shape adults or those tourists coming from sea level so plan accordingly. I will do this one once a year now that I know its there.

Snowshoed up to Heart Lake on Sunday December30th. The trail was broken all the way to the lake and easy to follow. A little wind when we got out of the trees but wasn’t to bad. Love this trail in the winter and the summer!!!

Hiked July 2017 trail to the lake/ glacier offered amazing views and we loved weaving through the forest on the way up. The glacial lake and surrounding mountain range in breathtaking! I personally thought the trail deserves a moderate rating as long as you don’t follow the switchbacks to the very top.

This remains one of the most beautiful and rewarding hikes I’ve completed in Colorado. The incline to Ice Lakes is strenuous and steep but with plenty of shade. The wildflowers and lakes at the top are utterly stunning. Island Lake glows turquoise in sun or shade and is unfailingly photogenic. I can’t wait to go back.

Best hike ever!

Awesome views from the summit!!

One of my favorites. Go in late Spring to see Columbine Falls at its finest.
