This is an absolutely wonderful hike. It is one of my personal favorites. There is so much natural beauty for your senses to feast on. It is not too challenging if you are an experienced hiker/backpacker. Regardless of your experience, however, the loose rocks can be precarious at times so be sure to wear hiking shoes with good traction and ankle support - watch where you’re stepping. And as always, bring a decent supply of water!

A beautiful trail which starts off hard due to incline but easy to follow and the downhill section had a couple of nice little waterfalls/creeks. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

Another gorgeous day of snowshoeing at Carson Pass. The trail was highly trafficked today with many cross country skiers and other snowshoers out enjoying the day. Snow on the trail was well packed, and I was able to use microspikes all the way to Lake Winnemucca where we turned around. It was windier at the lake, as it always is, so bring layers!

Great Hike. Saw two coyotes, elk and deer. Bathrooms were closed when I went due to the government shutdown. Hardly any trees on this hike but amazing views.

Did this on Jan 12, 2019. Beautiful views of ocean and also wildlife— lots of elk quite close by along the trail, and lots of birding opportunities. Incline is not too bad as well. Got to tomales point trailhead parking lot around 10:45 and the small parking lot was full but there’s grass area right next to it that is used as overflow. By the time we left (around 3:45), there were double the amount of cars.

Loved seeing the elk and pretty flat - my 9 year old was able to complete the hike!

Nice hike for those who want lots of wildlife and ocean scenery. Started before sunrise and by the time I was back the lot was very full. Recommend getting there early.

Great hike. It is neat to see the Elk herds. Worth the trip.

Amazing trail!!

Dewy, but not wet. Road full of cars, but only saw three people.

No matter how many times I do this trail, it still kicks my butt!! Short trail, but the change in elevation gets the heart pumping. I generally follow the trail out towards Cool to get a little more distance in for the day.

And running back down the hill makes the hike up soooooo worth it!

Absolutely beautiful trail for snowshoeing and other winter activities. We saw a handful of other people on the trail, but nothing even close to how busy this hike is in the warmer months. The trail was easy to follow and well packed enough that I could use microspikes rather than full on snowshoes. You will need a Sno Park permit to park in the lot, but well worth it!

This one was fun, as it had some fresh snow had to use snowshoes after the first 1k feet of climbing - barely had any tracks to follow, not a well marked trail by any means (which makes it fun)

Recommendation is to use the all trails app to make sure you're close to the trail. Thank you for putting the cairns or else we'd never be able to find the trail!

Short but very steep hike. I did the shorter version but next time I'll push myself to go the extra .7 miles. I wouldn't recommend for beginners.

One of my very favorite hikes. Seeing water on both sides is amazing. The Tule Elk are fun to see on the way.

I’ve got to agree with everyone else: fantastic hike. In addition to the views you’ll see tons of raptors - especially Harriers, Red-Tailed Hawks and Kestrels - as well as Tule Elk, Mule Deer and Coyotes.

Beautiful crisp blue Christmas Day hike. Definitely worth waking up early to avoid the crowds. Majestic elk and magical floating birds. A Sonoma County gem! The views at the point are stunning.

very windy but awesome views. saw elk, coyotes, vultures. highly recommend but dress warm!

did this trail over the summer, everything was dried up. So summer time is not the time to go! would bet spring time would be best!

very pretty hike! can be done with a jogging stroller too if you dont mind some rocky areas and a couple steep hills

Didn't follow the advice of "best used from June until October." Hiked this in mid-December without snowshoes or poles. Doable without snow equipment but I still recommend it. Tough hike but the view from the peak is well worth it.

did this trail in October great hike good workout when i do again i will probably skip 4th of July trail its all down hill after doing this round top peak its a little much i would do that on a different day

Awesome!!!! Nobody was there. (on a Sunday afternoon). Keep in mind it's a dirt path off the main road and there's a lot of ditches. When you park, you walk for about a quarter off a mile, then you start going down hill.

December on this trail is awesome. No one around, but still able to make out the path. Waterfall is iced over but scrambling up it wasn’t too bad. Really enjoyed the peace and different falls you hit as you climb.

on Training Hill

did this today after some rain. Trail fine with hiking boots though I can see some parts being slippery with other shoes. The first part is still steep (I keep on thinking it's changed) but very doable, just take your time. Not much scenery until the top and on the way back but still very nice.

Great place for training. Go counter clockwise twice for a good workout.

this is a great trail!!! I was able to do the whole loop in about 4.5 hours. I took time to take in the scenery and have lunch also. this is a great day hike.

Scenery is beautiful, gets a little tougher when you’re strolling through snow.

Trail was easy to follow. The waterfall was running nice due to the recent snow/rain fall. Had a couple decent photo ops. Overall, if you’re a beginner, you won’t find this trail too difficult.
