Hiked on 1/17, lots of wet snow making the trail difficult at the top. Yaktrax were helpful. The lake was mostly frozen.

Definitely I tough hike if your not used to elevation- probably not smart to fly in from Texas on 3 hours sleep and go directly to the hike. Considering all of that I made it 1.3 miles ( approximately 1700 steps) before deciding to be smart and take the 1st trail down. My stomach was jacked and my heart was pounding even though my pulse was not that high. Lesson learned - get in a few days early to acclimate, hydrate, and try it again. I still had a great hike and really enjoyed the views and light snow. On a positive note I did bring water, microspikes, and proper clothing

Note: went back today and made it up with no altitude issues. I will make this hike whenever I am in town - great workout

man what a workout but worth it. icy would suggest using spikes.

Great challenge for anyone. Scenic views. Well trafficked but not over crowded.

Great views! Take yourself to the top! Close to Denver and easy to get to. I’ll be back for more. Not sure how it is with snow as I was there back in late November.

Beautiful views! A few rough points that were too steep for our kids (11,8,7) but managed to concur!

2nd time back and a little less rough but still very challenging. The final 200 steps are icy and spikes would be ideal but I did it without them.

Snow packed, great trail to upper lake. Traction was ideal, snowshoes not necessary at all. Clocked 9.9m, 2100’.

Awesome trail and a great workout!!

Little icy in spots but all in all a really solid hike with great views!

Want to test your new microspikes out? This is a great hike. Hard because it ends with an incline. Strava mapping wasn't as great at calculating the distance/elevation gain- was more than 2 miles off (said we hike 11.2 versus the listed 8.7). Enjoy!

My favorite since even before it was ever open !

Hiked this trail in mid-September. Probably my most favorite trail ever. Well worth the scramble up the waterfall. Spectacular lakes set in a backdrop of towering mountains. And the colors were amazing. Definitely worth the effort to get there. Make sure to take the time to stop and enjoy the many views.

LEG WORKOUT! So so worth it! Feels very rewarding to have completed this one.

Beautiful!

Did this hike Jan.5 ,2019 pleasant hike for this time of year, easy beginning hike up until climbing the saddle which has some deep snow to deal with afterwards a nice view of the summit and a very easy hike starts to get more strenuous once you start rock hopping near the top well worth all the work beautiful views all the way

Way more than I anticipated but worth every leg cramp and labored breath.

Great hike! It was a steady climb most of the way up but no really tough spots. I’d rate the hike as moderate but others I was with had a tougher time and would rate it as hard. There was a little snow on the trail in some areas but spikes are not needed! It took us about 5 hours total, including stopping to rest and take pictures at the top. Would definitely recommend! 1/6/19

I first learned about this place in 2015. I took the opportunity to climb it in June 2016. It is a rather tough climb, especially if one is not in the best of physical condition as I was. The keys to complete this climb is to be absolutely committed to climb to the summit, take at least 2 liters of water (I use a camel pack), take your time & rest when necessary, and enjoy the stunning vistas. I plan on going back in June 2019, & maybe even climbing all the way to Pike's Peak, time permitting.

snowshoeing

Lovely conditions on 1/5/19 - snow covering 95% of trail to upper Chicago lake. Most of trail has packed snow, due to heavy use, but adequate to snowshoe, which we did for part, but using micro spikes was ideal due to rocky trail (particularly, the type that have crampons - I use Hillsound, rather than little yaktracks). I snowshoed on the lower reservoir lake surface, which looked to be solid ice. However, use caution...

We wanted to do the Mt. Zion Mtn bike but there wasn’t much signage so we ended up on part of this trail. Started at the trailhead with the porta-potties and went a total of 3 miles. Stopped at the mansion and the nature center for a few before heading back down. Parts of the trail had packed snow but basic hiking shoes worked well (went on 01/05/18). Our dog loved it, but we really wish more people would be responsible for picking up their pet’s waste. We never leave home without poo bags, they are so small and easy to grab! Also, as someone else said, lots of kids and people who weren’t actually hikers out on the trail. More busy than we would have liked. When there was a view it was amazing, we are glad we took this trail.

The hike itself is nice the terrain is good although some snow. This is a moderate hike with some great views definitely enjoyed it.
You can access the trail from different points so keep that in mind.

Good hike. Couple of muddy spots and some snow pack towards the top. Didn’t need yaktrax. Nice views.

I was able to jog this up and down in just running shoes with a little caution. It’s gorgeous in the winter! Make sure to go the extra couple hundred feet to sprouting rock.

Hiked to Lake Dorothy up the Arapahoe pass on Sept 17, 2018. A beautiful day, we arrived at the trail head at 8:30 AM and were able to find a legal parking space just down the hill from the camping area. We only saw 5 other hikers the entire trip; one woman coming down, two college men who passed us on the way up and three people going up on our way down.
Very windy at the lake, The "shelter" at the the lake is little more than an organized pile of rocks that is too short to protect you from the wind. The Arapahoe trail was protected from the wind, and the sunny south exposure was very pleasant. Completed the 7.6 mile round trip in a little less than 4 hours with a lunch break at the lake.

Great hike overall. Brought snowshoes in anticipation of a lot of snow but micro spikes worked well since the trail was packed snow. Definitely coming back this summer.

Beautiful "gotta do" hike.

Great work out. Beautiful view. Has a wimp-out zone that heads back down for those who don't want to finish. But when you get to the summit (not the false summit), you find it's totally worth it. People are friendly and supportive along the way.

Really solid hike with good views. It doesn’t seem like it should be rated hard, it is level most of the way.
