Hiked 2 days ago. A few inches of snow was on trail for the last mile or so to the summit. I had yak trax just in case but didn’t need them The rest had icy spots & frost. No problem getting to trailhead or driving on Forest road with my Honda CR-V. Chilco is one of my favorite trails in the area!

Already mentioned by other reviewers, but the trail isn’t marked very well & yes you must take 3 different trails to complete this loop. No cave obviously, but it was isolated enough if you want some solitude. Not much wildlife around this time of year, but saw a dead bird. :(

Went up today solo, got spooked for no reason and turned back until I met with another group and they were kind enough to let me join them. It was raining on and off and we ended up crossing through two waterfalls, be very careful with your footing or you may be swept away and unless you're super careful you will likely get wet regardless. I was able to do the whole trip without trekking poles or spikes though poles would have made at least one crossing easier. Today there was 1-2" of snow at the top and it did snow on us towards the top. Really a lovely hike and I look forward to going back in fair weather!

A great day hike in the rain and snow.
There are two sections where the water is really flowing. The first one is quite deep, 90% of people turned back and didn't cross it that we saw.
The second one is easy, go up the hill 50 ft, it is only 2 foot wide, jump it.
Interesting easy hike. Can hear the I-90 freeway the whole hike, didn't like that.

Beautiful terrain and views. Some parts of the trail could cause a twisted ankle if hiker is not careful.

Very steep hike and the trail is well maintained. The top section thru the shale rock is challenging but rewarded with an unobstructed 360 view at the top.

Great for training with a weighted pack. Not to far, great elevation gain and well maintained trail!!!

Beautiful hike, the Tamaracks are splendidly golden this time of year and the view of lake Pend Orielle from the summit is spectacular. That being said, I cannot overstate the fact that this hike is RELENTLESSLY UPHILL. There are very few spots where the path levels out and those moments are few and far between, so for that reason alone I would bump this up from moderate to hard. I’m in pretty decent shape and it was a struggle, definitely a thigh-burner!

Beautiful

Steeper than I expected. One for people who like the stair machines at the gym. But not too long. Beautiful Autumn colors. Beware of the three "ankle turner" rock fields near the top. First about 150 meters in length, the other two shorter. Forget looking at the scenery when traversing these rock fields. You have to watch where you step. Trail easy to follow, even through the rocks. Yesterday was cold and drizzly, so the summit was in the clouds, therefore, no views.

The view wow

Ok trail. I thought ATVs were not allowed on this trail. Clearly they have ripped it up. Same issue with others dogs off leashes and poop. Has a couple nice scenic views and is a nice little work out.

Great straight up workout with excellent views on top!

The view at the top is amazing! Mountains as far as the eye can see! My kids have done this trail three times with me, it’s uphill but not terribly bad.

Beautiful trail. Steep sections but totally do able. Views are amazing.

Terrible hiking. Go to Tubbs Hill.
Stay off of Cave unless you want to get run over.
If you do go, leash your dog and pick up dog Sh**.

This is one of my go to trail running spots. Most of the trail is runnable and the views along the way are amazing, however be super careful since in some spots the trail is very narrow so one wrong step and it will be your last. Most people turn around after reaching the Katwalk however if you keep going the lakes at the end are scenic and will tempt you to stay awhile. In fact the lakes are a fantastic place to camp. Since this is part of the PCT you won’t be alone, but it is not a crowded trail at all. Bring warm clothes because the area past the Katwalk tends to be pretty cold. I post photos of my hiking adventures on instagram under “adventuringKR”, including the ones from this hike.

nice area, nice flora. cool hemlock forest. grade was a little steep, though; more switchbacks would have welcome. worth doing, though!

NOT marked very well. Highly recommend downloading map & recording. Areas where you need to make a decision are not well marked. Was only able to stay on the right trail with AllTrails map. It starts out as trail 8 but then turns to trail A and then to trail 4. Beautiful hike. Recorded it as 4.3 miles. Never saw a cave.

Visited 8/25/2018 Great hike. No smoke. Elevation gain is very gradual. I’d recommend hiking shoes/boots as the terrain changes from dirt to rocky to rocky with tree roots. Definitely worth the 14 miles!

Beautiful hike. Gradual elevation the whole way through. It really is 7.4 miles to the lakes for almost exactly 15 mile hike round trip. Totally worth it.

Great Hike, smoky this time of year, definitely a decent uphill grade almost all the way in. Be sure you take the last 1/4 mile up the riprap to the summit to the old lookout location for the best views. Too bad we haven’t had much moisture the past month, the huckleberry bushes are extensive but the berries never grew enough.

Beautiful hike, it was very smokey on 8/14 so the views could be much improved on a clear day but still a great hike. The hike itself is moderate difficulty, I think what may make it harder is the length.

Went up this past weekend; although it was cloudy the panoramic of the Cascades was still stunning! A favorite for sure. Quite a bit of bugs so bring some bug spray.

Great views, not too many people, very hot, bring lot's of water. Bugs

One of the best hikes I’ve been on! Absolutely amazing views at the top, had some rain come in but created some nice cover and rolling fog over the crest of the mountains!

Hiked this Sunday 8/5. Started at 7:30 am and it was a long beautiful hike. We ended up going past the Katwalk to have lunch by the lakes (total miles ended up being 15.2 miles). We stopped at Ridge Lake, the smaller of the two. There were some amazing places to camp for a future overnight trip to venture further on the PCT. The trail wasn’t too difficult nor was it too crowded. The bugs were pretty aggressive and after 3 applications of bug spray I still came home with 20+ bug bites. I definitely would do this one again.

Very fun hike outside Seattle. I went on 8/6 and started at 9 am, stopping at Lake Ridge and heading back. It took about 6 hours. If you plan on stopping, make sure to bring bug spray.

Great hike up but the down....
