A nice outdoor hike. Not intense at all but its easy to get lost. I had to use to app to follow the trail.

just finished this bad boy or girl.. its was a challenge!

hard, but worth it

Great trail and a good workout. Maps available at the trailhead. I took the route clockwise, so I hit North Fortuna first and came down South Fortuna. It was a little hard on the knees going down those steep stairs after the South Fortuna peak. Also towards the end it wasn't totally clear where I was supposed to go, lots of 4-way intersections, but I think as long as you head in the right general direction you can't get lost.

The "Getting There" is inaccurate - you shouldn't go to Equestrian Circle for this trail head. But if you click on the "Directions" it leads you in the right place. Just type in 11441 Clairemont Mesa Blvd to your GPS.

My first time tackling el cap. Started my climb at 8am. At around 9:30 I had to stop because the last ascend to the peak was too steep. I could have made it up, but getting down would have been interesting. Still saw some incredible views nonetheless. Will definitely be back to try a different route.

Hiked it this morning....would be greatly challenging for a beginner and I’d say a moderate hike for more experienced hikers. The trail gets steep (stairs) but isn’t horrible. The views can be decent on a clear day....downtown San Diego and Coronado bridge can be easily seen from the summit. All in all a good time to be had for all.

Definitely one of the best!

Fun place to take kids and dogs

Did this as practice for a backpacking trip. The view was sometimes interesting but still only to an extent, considering the fact that it was surrounded by highways and buildings. Could get decently steep on occasion. Despite the lack of scenery, it was definitely a challenge with a pack on my back and was very clearly marked with no bugs to worry about. Good hike with limited options in the area.

It is hard but a good workout. It took me about 3 hours round trip. I would suggest wearing hiking boots; the trail is very rocky. Good views.

Great family hike!

It was a beautiful scenery with lots of greenery & water. The hike was moderate I did it with my dog, puppy,& 2kids. Ok now the negative we picked up a TICK but luckily it didn't attach to anyone yet. So before you go out here put on your deterrent & protect your fur babies!!!!

Good hike, but be ready for a non existent trail and nature has taken over
No water
Great views

fun trail run, gets pretty steep on the climb up at a couple points but will definitely go back

Did this hike yesterday. Great challenge. Beautiful views. Had a blast!

Enjoyed this trail, scenery was beautiful

First time here had a great time. Only went about half way in but I’m really overweight and out of shape and did 5 miles round trip pretty easily. Had a few swimming holes we swam in. Would do it again.

Easy hike, good for after work, which is exactly what we did.

Love this trail

Great for a morning workout and enjoying the views.

First time doing this trail. Liked it a lot. Quiet with great river views. Only thing I didn’t like was the amount of dog excrement along the trail.

we took the north trail on the way up and came down the South, highly recommend taking the South trail. Happy Trails

The most difficult hike in San Diego. Great challenges come great rewards. The views are amazing just like they say. You wont be disappointed. It is very easy to loose the trail or try to go around an obstacle and end up on a cliff face or another impassable obstacle. This is more of a climb than a hike. Stay on the ridge line. The descent is harder then the climb, so give yourself plenty of time and bring at least 3 litres of water.

Definitely not a summer afternoon hike. VERY hot with very little shade. I took 4L and it was barely enough. Great hike otherwise. The best part was the rock formations towards the end, so push through to the peak and you’ll be rewarded.

Love this trail. not good for out of shape seniors. There are some narrow cliffs and boulders that they could easily get hurt on. I'm upper 50's and take my dog several times a month. scenic, peaceful and not too strenuous.

Help someone! If anyone could comment and direct me to The right trail head beginning for this trail, I would really appreciate it. Pardon my seeming noviceness LOL. I hike “hard to difficult” trails every week, and I’ve done the El Capitan side of this a couple of times, though not finishing it, going in at least 5 miles in and 5 miles back. I really want to do this south entrance trail. I parked just before the entrance of the reservoir and saw what looked like the beginning of the trail, though there are some little trails, each lead me to nowhere. I really want to do this side of the mountain it looks awesome. Anyone know exactly where to begin?

Some challenging parts!

Did this 9/8/17 Reviews a little late but I thought I should reiterate the warning, bring a bug net and consider long sleeves. There are several cisterns (not drinkable) along the trail that make the biting gnats/mosquitos brutal. I was just up on Tahquitz Peak and the view of High Point triggered the repressed memory. Great hike, stellar views.
