I love this trail!! A friend and I came to this trail looking for the secret cave (we didn’t find it) but were pleasantly surprised with the hike anyway! We did lose the trail on our way up towards the Rocky Peak Trail split, so using the map on here really helped us get back on track. On our way down, it was much easier to follow the purple arrows. when you reach Rocky Peak Trail, if you turn left you’ll loop back to where you parked off of Kuenher Dr. if you go right, you’ll continue on a much longer hike but we hear the views on Rocky Peak Trail are beautiful. We brought our dog but there isn’t really any shade at all, so bring lots of water and wear sunscreen and hats. Great views the whole way up...it gets pretty steep at times. We will definitely be coming back to check out more of Rocky Peak too!

Only 2.5 miles up to the peak if you just want a good view (5mi round trip).

Nice easy trail along the lake surprised at how low it was. Saw lots of birds, but there was too much noises from all the people and the close proximity to the road, so most of the wildlife was scared away by the noise.

Short moderate hike only about 2 1/2 miles but the ocean views were amazing! It’s a loop trail with a nice seafood restaurant at the start/end of the hike

Great trail. Good for dogs. Probably not kids, though. Very steep in places.

Nice but a lot of up and down and much of it is heavily trafficked.

BEAUTIFUL MALIBU hike that has scenic, ocean coastal views. The patches of yellow dandelion mazes while heading up the trail was gorgeous too. I came here with a buddy of mine on Saturday afternoon around 4pm and it wasn't crowded at all. The trek is 2.5 long so very doable and after your workout I highly recommend eating at the Malibu Seafood shack at the bottom.

Parking: There is plenty of parking on the side of the PCH or there is also a small paid lot at the head of the trail that is around $5.

Good for baby’s first hike. Shady enough.

Great with lots of elevation. Most of the elevation is in the beginning half mile and the last half mile near the summit.

Love this trail. Hiking poles helped greatly with the ascent and descent.

I will consider this hike as moderate. You go as far as you want we only hike 2 miles we have our 4 month baby so it was a little harder. The view is just amazing.

Fantastic view over LA.

Very cool trail that leads you through the old LA Zoo

Great trail, especially late-afternoon when I did it. It took me 2 1/2 hours and I was booking it, so I would definitely allow yourself 3 for sure. I combined the Dawn Mine Trail, which takes you down into a thickly wooded ravine with lots of boulders and a lovely stream, with the Mount Lowe Railway Trail, which is paved but still really nice, on the return. It took me about 1-1 1/4 hours to get to the Dawn Mine area, and then you can turn left and head up the hillside and then return along the ridge, which gives you great views of Altadena all the way to Downtown LA. Highly recommended. Only say about 10 people the whole time. Can't wait to go again!

Not too bad, perfect for those who don’t hike much or want something quick.

Really nice area but the gate was locked and couldn’t get in, they replaced the fence AND. got stuck in the mud right before the gate. Geez bad day I’ll tell ya what.....

A very wide an open trail easy to find from the exit of the freeway. Sandy and rocky the whole way the trail winds and twists as it ascends through the mountains. The sounds of the highway eventually dropping away to pleasant silence. There is an interesting sandstone cave open on two ends early on the trail.
The landscape looks to be filled with scrub brush, boulders, and plenty of side trails branching off in all directions for those that want to explore features in the distance. Please exercise caution if you choose to do this. The main trail is easy to follow and is about as wide as a small street.
Not too hard but certainly a good workout the trail is fairly moderate with some steep sections and an extended steep section as the last push before the summit.
Well worth the trip with good views of Simi Valley, and the San Fernando Valley.
The trail seemed well traveled on the day I did it but was not so crowded that one could not enjoy peaceful solitude.
Will certainly tackle this trail again.

We followed the 8.7 mile trail loop exactly as per map. The description is a little misleading in that there are a number of off-fire road excursions onto narrow, rough and brushy tracks. You have to keep a very close eye on the map because these tracks are often kind of hidden or just not obvious. Had to backtrack a couple of times.

That said, it was a nice hike across Griffith Park, especially at the start when you climb up to the top ridge. The trail ends up behind the Hollywood sign, which is a little anticlimactic, before you turn back and take a slightly different route back.

Took our kids yesterday and it was a great hike! There’s some type of bridge at the very top of the mountain. We didn’t hike that far but looks cool!

lush, densely covered, walk along stream to the gold mine. however, it is very buggy. bring spray or a net to cover your face.

going back up to the ridge the bugs go away and reveal nice city and natural views.

in terms of foot traffic, I ran into small groups every 30 minutes or so.

will go again.

Very scenic and enjoyable hike. Lots of bugs though, bring some repellent. Parts of the trail were very overgrown and I could swear I heard growling at one point (!). But I definitely recommend this hike. Lots of shade and different terrain, and seeing the mine at the end was exciting, even if it is closed.

We did this trail on daylight. moderate hike to the dawn mine sign. if you go down to the right, you will see what it used to be the mine. The mine is now covered with steel but you can peak with a flashlight. We couldn't find a way to go in the mine. Even if there was, I didn't wonder around to much.
be aware of the bee hive on the tree on top to the left of the sign that says dawn mine. These bees will follow you and sting you.
p.s follow skyhighhiking on your I.g

Lots of shade. Nice creek. Took about 3.5 hrs.

Short, well maintained, well marked trail with great views of the San Gabriel Mountains and SGV. Perfect beginner hiking trail, also would be a fun beginning MTB trail.

a nice short hike with a view down to La Canada and Glendale and the Crescenta Valley and you can see Descanso Gardens. we did this hike about 4 months ago

Keep an eye out for a geocache at the summit!

A beautiful shady loop with lots of points of interest among the way and breathtaking views from Inspiration Point. I question whether it’s 4.9 Miles as in the description. While the elevation gain is accurate, I think it’s more like 6-6.5 and others along the way agreed. Recommend doing the loop clockwise, as the descent down from Dawn Mine would be a bit more challenging.

Easy hike to do with the dogs. Easy parking. Limited shade so not good for the middle of the day!
