I didn’t hike all the way to Snow Valley, just went 8 miles as an out and back. Very few people out this time of year, we saw 5 people on foot and 5 people on horseback. The views of Tahoe were all seen as glimpses through the trees, but still a very beautiful hike.

Very cool little hike. The tower was partially closed, but also open to where you could climb up into it without too much problem. It wasn't easy, but wasn't hard either. There's a metal grate blocking the top two steps, but they have the rest of it open, which was a bit odd.

The gravel road was not particularly rough so regular passenger vehicles can probably make it ok.

Not so much hiking as it was stair climbing. Great views though!

Pretty great views and the rock structures are great for running and jumping.

Running and jumping through the rock structures is a blast! Views from the cliffs are pretty incredible for the area. The tower took away from the natural beauty a bit but overall it was decent hike.

I LOVE THIS TRAIL. I’m sad it took me so long to find out about it, seriously. This trail has it all! 3 waterfalls, a river, a mountain, an AMAZING lookout.... I loved it so much. The first two miles are fairly easy, then the last two are climbing up to Pinnacle Knob. I really, really enjoyed this hike. I went on a Saturday and maybe saw about 15 people the whole time. I also took my three dogs and they had a great time. Highly recommend this trail! Parking is nice and convenient too. Also a lot of really cool camp spots. Another thing, the trail has been rerouted since it was last updated on here, so it’s definitely more like 4 miles to the top.

Fun trail... beautiful views especially with the fall leaves. Lots of dogs which i loves. I didn’t like the loud music some patrons were playing...I believe there should be a rule about that. It disrupted our hike.

It was late afternoon by the time we reached Rocktop trail from the Sparrow Springs parking lot. Fallen leaves can make for unsure footing on the rocks but it wasn’t a difficult trail. We enjoyed the expansive views and spiny rock formations along the spine of the mountain.

I wouldn’t take young children on Rocktop trail due to steep drop-offs.

Rocktop trail meets a gravel road that leads up to Rocktop Tower. You have to trace the righthand side of the tower to reach Crowders Mountain Trail. From the summit you descend stair steps then follow a manicured, shady trail to return Sparrow Springs parking lot.

Worth the hike. The view is something from a lord of the rings movie making it very rewarding from the climb up. The horses are beautiful. It has became a yearly visit from PA.

As others have mentioned this trail is not accurately described. The GPS track that looks like it is part of the trail is actually a dirt road that leads down to a small parking area that then leads out to the suspension bridge. This is also definitely not 9 miles, however we still had a nice walk with our dog in the areas that were less crowded and felt comfortable taking her off leash and exploring some of the other roads in the national Forest.

A very steep incline. Must watch your step! This was a great workout. Will definitely be back!

We did the western fork and it was definitely a challenge from the lake to Lookout Point. The lake should be a definite side Trail for you to explore you get to walk completely around the lake.

Good exercise, beautiful view!

A very tough climb up to the top but well worth it. Bring a lunch or some snacks and hang out on the peak with the nice view!

If you are looking for a long walk through the trees, culminating with a view up top, then this is for you. We did not see any other hikers but we did run into a few mountain bikers.

Very nice trail, just like the review right next to me went during a heavy fog. What it took away in long distance views it added in ambiance so to speak. I added a cool fog photo. Was straight out of a movie.

Most of the trails on pilot Mountain connect at one point or another so you may hike as much or as little as you feel. Appears to be very crowded on weekends so try a weekday if you can.

Also I find the difficulty ratings around pilot Mountain a touch over exaggerated. The moderate seemed easy & the strenuous seemed moderate to me.

Great hike with lots of water features along the way. Steady incline towards the top but with a nice payoff.

Short but steep hike to a great view. Be warned that the last 2 miles to drive there are on an unpaved road.

Hiked this trail today while Pilot Mountain and the trail were shrouded in the clouds. Occasionally caught glimpses of the fall colors through the mist. Gives you a real appreciation of the massive rock structure of the mountain. Lots of steps.

Go in the fall (we went first weekend of November) and you will get an excellent view of black rock mountain and the southern end of the smoky mountains. Nice waterfalls too. Keeping in the list of repeat hikes.

Great hike. Great training location... short and steep. Incredible views as well.

Did just the Moore’s wall part of the trail today and it was absolutely lovely!! The trip to the top was a good workout but totally doable. Views spectacular without having to go all the way to the “big” mountains of N.C.!!!

This trail was definitely the most challenging I have done. It was scenic and lightly traveled but much more difficult than expected—lots of challenging uphill portions. It appears that the trail is actually more like 9 miles, which for us included a short detour to the lake and then another to the overlook. Overall, I’m proud of myself for accomplishing this, but note that it might take longer than other people mentioned. Also, I live somewhere with no elevation so am not used to this type of terrain.

Did this hike early on a cool Sunday morning with my parents. They are in their 60’s and we needed to take breaks for knees and lungs :) The trail is beautiful. Steep at points. But the pay off with the views are spectacular. The leaves were changing colors — magnificent!

Wonderful views at the top and don’t miss the waterfall not that far from the start of the trail - a little side trail below the creek crossing. Very muddy and water flowing gently over parts of the trail towards the top - you will want waterproof boots for sure! A beautiful morning hike!

Great hike - trailhead is tough to locate, basically marker between the two parking areas (we parked at Warwoman) marked blue/difficult that takes up up some switchbacks to cross the road. A few waterfalls and through some camping areas. Lot of up and down and flat until you pass the camping area and then it’s a steady up for the last mile and a half. Great views but very windy so we didn’t spend too much time at the top. A solid 8 miles and we did it in just under 4 miles with few breaks.

Dogs must be leashed. $13 to camp. You have to cross a busy State road to hike the trail. After that it gets pretty good, challenging with great views

Great jeep trail. Starts paved but gets very interesting later as you climb. Great vistas too
