Definitely an underrated hike, the view was amazing! Highly recommend this

A classic climb! Love this Mountain and the view is great!

Hiked with my 6 and 10 year olds.

Maybe I missed it in the description but beware the mileage is off by about 1.5 miles of you're planning on summiting. The discrepancy is because the mileage listed is from the trailhead to the intersection with the Piper trail. It's another .6 miles from the trail intersection to the peak. I would not rate it as moderate because of distance and the last section and found it to be on the lower side of hard. However it is completely worth it. The views are amazing.

I would not recommend this trail for smaller children and would not recommend it in the rain. The first 3.5 miles are moderate but long with the last quarter mile being a pretty rigorous scramble.

My six year old was beat when we got to the top. If you're taking smaller children learn from my mistake. Let them break more than normal and don't wait for lunch at the peak. I think she would have faired better had we had a long break with lunch before summiting. I should have divided the trail into thirds with two large breaks instead of the usual one big break at the top.

Did this as an impromptu hike while checking out Echo Lake. Some parts are steep but the rocks were t as slippery as I thought since it rained that morning. It was very heavily trafficked and it didn’t take that long to get to the top, and of course the views of Cathedral Ledge was the icing on top. Loved the natural stairs and the old abandoned car on Bryce’s Path was so cool to look at. Trail markers were very clear and easy to follow. Would love to attempt this hike in the winter!

More arduous than I remembered. Have to concentrate on yellow swatches. Brook trail was tougher and much less traveled. Great reward at top!

Hiked with my 6 and 10 year olds.

I did not consider this a moderate hike and found it quite easy. Neither of my kids found it difficult either. The only "steep" sections are found in the staircase around the falls and these are short.

The trail is about a mile to the falls and is fairly flat with a gradual incline. There is a stream crossing immediately after the trailhead we managed in the rain to avoid getting wet.

You've reached the falls when you hit a fork in the trail with a sign. The right continues on to Mt. Chocurua and the left heads towards the falls. They meet again after the falls to create a loop. I would avoid the loop by going up and down the staircase. If you head up the left the first or second side trail leads to a wide waterfall with a huge squarish bolder in the middle of the stream. Keep heading down the gorge another 200' to see a tall 50' waterfall. There is also a cut out in the canyon with a large overhang in which you can shelter. We ate lunch here out of the drizzle and dried off our gear.

Although we come to summit Chocorua this was a nice plan B. Had conditions been better and we summited I probably would have by passed the falls and missed out completely.

That was a great little family hike. Lots of cold water pools to lay around in and 4 leaves up or so there was a hole that was about 2 ½ feet wide by 3 ½ feet long and about 10 feet deep. Jumped in with my arms by my side. What a rush. The hike is easy. Parking was a problem so get there early.

Overall great hike. Trail was well kept but some areas where you could definitely get lost because they look like trails as well. Follow yellow marks whole way! Even at the top!!! Also very muddy and wet, bring shoes with good traction.

We started the trail via Frankenstein Cliffs which was a pretty steep incline but happy we got the hardest part over with in the beginning of the trail. There were very few people on the Cliff trail but once we got closer to the falls, there were many more- a little too busy to my taste. But all in all, a very beautiful 5 mike hike from start to finish and a great workout. It took us 4 hours but we stopped and picnicked by the smaller falls.

Very cute, very short, tons of people

Fun family trip with just the right mix of fun and challenge. Some steep and rocky parts but nothing too tough. I saw people of all ages - from young families with parents carrying babies in packs, to teens and seniors. Nice brook running up the side of the trail at some parts. Nice view st the summit. Can be a bit busy - not the trail you want if you prefer solitude. Well marked. Done with a 10 and 12 yr old, and 4 month old puppy. Nice canopy of trees to shine away the elements.

was a nice hike up today. under the canopy of the trees, air temp/humidity not bad for our group of 5 to make it in about an hour. the kids did fine, though one thought it was more steep than she expected. a great day

Great 3 hour hike. Recommend heading towards Frankenstein cliffs first. Steep climb through shaded area that pops you out onto gorgeous outlooks. It had just rained a day prior to this climb so Arethusa falls was going strong. There are a lot of side paths to other falls and small pools, so if you have time to explore, you could easily make this into a full half day hike.

More an amble than a hike (lots of kids in flipflops on the trail), the falls are beautiful both above and below, but at least on the weekend day that we went were VERY crowded.

Great trail. We walked with our 7 and 5 year olds and a toddler in a carrier. It took us almost 5.5 hours as we walked super slow and made a lot of stops along the way. We lost the trail twice - near the same location on the way there and back but found the trail again quite easily. I highly recommend.

Breathtaking!

So romantic to do with your boo ;)

Took the trail behind the visitor center to the left. Hiked up 1.6 miles expecting to reach the top. At the end of the 1.6 miles there was another Mt Williard sign for .5 or .6 miles. With sunset coming I did not have the time for the extra leg. This website either needs better directions to the trailhead or to update the hike the 4.4 miles.

Short hike to falls- first part of the trail could even be accessed by wheelchair or with a stroller. Climb up higher on the path to get up to the top of the group of falls. Small waterfalls and natural rock slides - good for all ages but can be very slippery so watch the little ones.
Gets very busy on nice days, go early or go when it’s raining to avoid the crowds.

We went to Frankenstein Cliffs first. I felt it was better to do it this way because of the steep incline. Great view from the cliff and excellent water falls!

This trait is not easy to follow. We went up the cliff side, but got lost around the railroad track. There was a fallen bushy tree on the trail, so we didn't realize that was the way to go. We also realized on our way up, we had strayed from the actual trail. Besides it not being marked well, it's a great moderate hike- there are a couple strenuous parts on the way up the cliff, but after the cliff it's pretty easy. Great view and beautiful waterfall (which can be quite crowded). We also accidentally left a tomahawk on the cliff trail before it gets really steep if anyone wants to try to find it.

Amazing view, even on the second time around! Took the other side up the mountain this time, got to see the Falls, and encountered some wildlife...

Beautiful. Calming. You must experience the powerful spray at the base of the waterfall.

Definitely a family friendly hike on a well marked, gently sloping trail. Easy for even young children or seniors to climb. Beautiful views of the notch from the top.

Super easy and absolutely beautiful! Definitely my favorite, it was such a quick easy walk to the falls and it was such an amazing view!

Beautiful view! Parts of the trail were very steep may be difficult for some people, but other than that it was great. The view was beautiful but very busy with people driving up to the parking lot right near the ledge.
