Really pretty hike done 12/10. I schlepped snow shoes up with me, and didn’t even need them. I wore spikes, and was fine - didn’t even need those for certain sections - although sounds like there is a lot more snow now. I managed to get off trail at some point, but that’s not that unusual for me

Highly recommend. One of the highest hikes above boulder. I started at the Gregory Canyon Trailhead. Not much parking at that small lot, but a bit of overflow on the east side of the road in. Park at Chautauqua otherwise per this trail map.

Conditions are snowy. 1-4” with deeper snow towards the top. Doable with hiking boots, but you’ll want your crampons to get up and back down.

Recommended for fit hikers only. 2-4 hour round trip hike, with 2,500’ vertical in 4.4 miles from Gregory Canyon Trailhead

Hiked today 1/21. 11 am parking lot only 1/3 full. Almost no wind the whole way. Sunny until Emerald lake, then started snowing. Had micro spikes, but could have made it without them. Trail compact but not icy yet. Was an amazing hike

1-20-19 . Was super windy when we got there and barely stayed. Beautiful hike though and roads getting there were not too bad. Favorite Colorado hike

Saddle rock, Greenman, & Ranger all ice & snow. Microspikes strongly recommended. Gregory Canyon mixed ice/snow/mud/dirt. 1/21

1.20.19: beautiful, we made it all the way without snowshoes just fine (did have spikes on our boots). It was PAINFULLY windy and cold both at Dream Lake and Emerald Lake (felt like North of the Wall on Game of Thrones) - highly recommend some kind of Buff Neckwear to pull over your face and either ski goggles or at least sunglasses for eye protection.

did this yesterday (1/20) it was beautiful but so windy and cold at the top. I used my snowshoes up and spikes on the way down. the trail is packed enough that spikes and poles would be fine the whole way. great trail with nice views!

Completed 1/18/19. Micro spikes were a necessity, put them on at Chautauqua and never took them off. Snowpack was deep at points, but trail was 99% manageable, and you could see where you were going. Few people if any were on the trail. Enjoy!

Very snowy for the entire hike which added to the difficulty, especially that last push to Windy Peak. Did it with hiking boots but snow shoes would have worked well. Trail was easy to follow thanks to some brave souls since the last snow, deep in spots. Views at the top were awesome as always.

4 stars but only because we couldn’t make it to the top. About 1.7 miles up during the switchbacks the snow is very deep. The tracks of people who had come before us stopped, and we tried to keep going but would have needed snowshoes. Either way - gorgeous views and manageable elevation. Very windy but beautiful sunny day!

Completed on 1/19 morning...snow is packed for the first mile then becomes a mix towards the top. We completed this just in our hiking boots but fell into the snow quite a bit at the top. Spikes, snowshoes, or poles would have been extremely helpful towards the top/summit. Extremely windy/cold at the top, if you can find cover behind a rock you will get great views of Mt Evans.

Opened the park a few days ago after shuffling around some money. We made it to Dream Lake w/o snow shoes. It was incredibly windy there and everyone we saw turned back - definitely need snow shoes to go from Dream to Emerald. Great hike up to Dream, though.

Amazing trail! Easy to follow and breathtaking views. Muddy and icy for some parts as expected so be sure to have proper hiking footwear. Enjoy!!!

This was such a fun trail with breathtaking views! It had just snowed and the red rock against the white powder was so beautiful! The uphill was a bit challenging for someone who doesn’t hike a lot, but the views and experience were truly amazing!

beautiful trail and perfect weather on 1/14. 6-8 inches of snow on each side of the trail, moderately packed snow on the trail itself. used micro spikes pretty much all the way.

Easy, brisk trail, great one for beginners

Muddy but a great quick hike

Really great trail! It was snowy most of the trail with some muddy areas. But the views were amazing. Highly recommended!

Great views. Did trail clockwise so went up the stairs which felt safer. Trail was snow covered and deep in places. No ice but should wear micro spikes

One of my favorite trails, it seems it is less crowded than some of the others in this area. Hiked 1/13, went up Gregory Canyon and down via Saddle Rock. The top was mostly hard packed snow and the bottom a little icy, I wore my microspikes the whole time and was glad I had them. Took me about 4 hours round trip. Would highly recommend!

Great views along the way.

One of my favorite trails! So beautiful. We did the loop counter clockwise, it seems like it could have been a little easier to do it clockwise though.

perfect quick hike, and the views were great! microspikes were very helpful, and it is pretty windy at the top so bundle up!

great trail - went yesterday and still didn't need crampons or yak tracks

Completed this hike on 1/6/2018 and it was the perfect mid afternoon hike. Not too hard, not too easy in some parts but overall, one of the best day hikes close to the Denver area. The first mile or so will require spikes/yaktrax just to help with the slipping of the snow but the last half mile is not covered and does not require traction. It is always windy at the top so if you plan on spending time up there this time of year, go prepared with some layers. Had an excellent view of the sun setting above Mt. Evans and it probably got better as it continued to set. Parking was easy as there was a lot of it in the designated pull off.

My first hike in Co. Easy trail and beautiful views! Fairly marked trail, not too much traffic too. Great place for pets too

One of the most beautiful trail from Boulder! This hike was a pure joy :)

Nice hike, well marked trail for the most part, beautiful views at the top. doesn't take more than a couple hours to complete the full trip!

Amazing
