I loved this trail and the beautiful lake! It is very rocky so make sure you wear hiking boots with ankle support because it would be very easy to twist an ankle. I saw a lot of dogs on the trail, and the bigger dogs seemed to love it but saw some smaller dogs that were really struggling. It also might be a good idea to bring booties for your pups If they have sensitive paws due to the rocks.

Great hike, especially on a clear day. Not too difficult, last stretch is the hardest. Took just over 2 hours to get up.
The road up was full of potholes! The trailhead is about 5 miles past Heather Lake.

A lovely, challenging hike with a stunning reveal at the end. Bring a small picnic to enjoy by the lake. We saw many other hikers and lots of interesting wildlife. Just beautiful.

Excellent trail! We were able to hike this after leaving Mount Baker on our way back to the Seattle airport. Rained all day in Bellingham Sunday so we needed one more hike before hearing back to hot, humid Atlanta !

Beautiful hike!!! Pretty rocky. Highly recommend hiking boots with good ankle support. Make sure you continue down to lake once you get to the lookout. Will absolutely go again!!

This was my very first hike and the fellas and i really had no idea what we were in for .. If you aren't a regular hiker (like myself) and aren't in top shape , be prepared to push yourself harder than you ever have . The trail was beautiful, the views were beautiful . There are some very steep areas that will test your quads . Personally i had to take lots of little breaks to let my legs recharge . It was hard mentally and physically to accomplish but well worth it in the end. It was a great accomplishment. It was just under 12 km from where we Parked so about 23.5 km round trip ! My biggest regret was not having buying hiking poles.. it WILL save your legs

awesome trail with beautiful view on top. definitely recommended.

love love love this app. definitely my go to. thanks reviewers that take the time to update trail conditions and tips.

Hard, steep but the view is worth it. The incline is almost throughout the whole trail. There are benches to sit at 2-3 places along the trail.

Rained off and on the whole hike. Was beautiful and not too busy on a Thursday.

Agree with previous review. It's a medium-hardness hike. Mailbox was a ton more strenuous.

We found a ‘grove’ of huckleberries at the lake! The hike was beautiful, especially the boulder fields. The spur to the ridge was challenging and fun with an amazing view.

A tough hike but well worth it once you leave the switchbacks and forests behind. The views of the surrounding mountains is the warm up for getting to see Blanca Lake. It truly is worth the gruel and I will do it again when the seasons change in a few weeks. Two things 1) Don't give up and 2) coming down takes half the time it takes to get up.

we went during the week in the evening so it wasnt very busy, only saw 2 other couples. there was so many amazing views along the way! the falls were absolutely breathtaking! we just went to the 2nd level since we ran out of daylight but definitely want to go back! id say moderate is fitting for this one:)

My first time hiking this mountain and it’s not that hard at all compare to MailBox. Amazing View, I definitely go back again when it’s sunny.

Driving all the way up to Mt PilChuck Parking lot was Nuts a lot of holes.
Get there early parking lot gets pack right away.

Trash Everywhere!

First I need to say how disappointed I am with the hikers using Washington trails! I watched volunteers spending an entire day cleaning trash from this one trail. It took a team of people the entire day to pick up trash that should never have been left in the first place. Very Sad.

If your going to hike this or any other Washington State trail take your trash out with you. If you see some disrespectful hiker leaving trash say something.

And to all you pet owners! If your dog poops don’t put it in a bag and toss the bag off the trail. Seriously, what is wrong with you people.

If you can’t show respect for other hikers and the environment, stay off the trail.

Very nice trail with great views. It was foggy and cold at the lookout. Plenty of Yummy huckleberries along the way! The round trip hike is exactly 6 miles not 4.8 miles that is listed here...

This is the second most beautiful thing I've seen this year! The first was female so I don't think that's a fair comparison. I had to hold back my emotions, I'm a man of course, I was just not prepared for how stunning this lake was in person. This is something you must see for yourself.

The lake is not made of a non-nutonian fluid, I tried walking on it and I sank. That's how my pictures came out so awesome!

If you're not quite sure if you have bad knees or not... You'll definitely know after this hike! LOL

Don't forget to see the falls at the end of the trail. I got in the water to take some pictures from the other side.

Solid- gorgeous forest hike. 3300 feet of gain is no joke, so plan accordingly. Bring Lots of water/food. Route finding in the rocky section is patchy, stick to the trails on the edges of the rocks. Haystack access trail is a bit hard to find, but just head to the right from the face and you’ll find it. Haystack scramble is a solid class 3, with patches of class 4 depending on your route. On busy days (Saturday’s) a helmet might be a good idea to mitigate possible rocks from above. Gorgeous views from the top. Downhill is a bit rough on the legs, but not too bad. Good stuff!

Good little hike. Steeper at the beginning and the end. I thought the view from the top was ok...not breathtaking, but definitely very nice.

Beautiful. After finishing the ascent and going down around the back end and going down the first two switchbacks, and having the lake come into view down below, it was amazing.

The hike wasn't too bad. Lots of rocks throughout, and the beginning of the trail from the trailhead, and at the end of the ascent were the hardest.

Overall, I thought it was completely worth it. Just so beautiful. Make sure you leave early so there aren't that many crowds, or during the week.

backing.... it was my first time with my husband, and absolutely loved it!!! I’ve hiked snow many times and never get tired of the lakes! 9-6-19

Nice trail with decent elevation. Not much in the way of scenery but a few small creeks here and there. Lightly traveled, saw fresh bear scat on the trail this morning so take your bear bells / bear spray because the berries are out and the bears are eating them to prepare for the winter / hibernation. Close to the road, so you will hear cars until you're about 1/2 way up. Granite mountain is better for scenery, scrambling but this is good if you want to get some miles in on a nicely maintained trail. Parking is tough, you'll need to park on the road if you come after 9am.

Watch out for bees, they were pretty feisty. Also, ran into a mama mountain goat and her baby.

This time the weather was really clear (9/7/18) and I was able to see Rainier and the valleys very well. Between miles 5 and 6. It was a pleasant surprise because every time I have hiked here it has been cloudy so I didn’t even know there was a view of Rainier. :-) Well, there is, and it’s magnificent. There is a lot of clear cutting at the top of the mountain, but that allows you to see some really great views.

Today I continued down the trail to the Ledge then returned back the way I came. Including some extemporaneous exploration, I logged 18 miles and 4500 elevation gain.

Great hike! Definitely recommend!

This hike was awesome! The hike to the lake was not too bad at all, and the view when you got there was amazing!

This trail is very difficult but worth the effort! I would recommend going on a weekday and starting early in the morning. We started at 8:45am and arrived at the lake at 12:00pm. (I took several short breaks along the way!) We spent about an hour at the lake relaxing and refueling. The trip back was almost as difficult as getting to the lake. Because of the steep incline, it can be hard on the knees. The blueberry bushes are ripe and ready to eat along the trail. The mosquitoes and flies were out but not too bothersome. This is definitely a trail that shouldn’t be passed up.

Didn’t make it far, detoured. But was a nice hike while it lasted.

Nice hike. Went there after seeing the crowd at Rattlesnake Ledge (yikes!). This trail was somewhat busy but nothing like Rattlesnake! Only complaint is that at the top of the climb there’s only a small area for sitting & viewing & not much shade. Lots of shade on the trail though.

Challenging and beautiful hike. The scramble at the top is a bit daunting, but totally worth the view you experience. Took us 3.5 hours total (2 hours up, 1.5 hours down). As everyone else says, the road up to the trailhead is pretty crappy. Not sure why they don't fill in those massive potholes. Made it up okay in a lowered golf though. Will be back again for sure!
