The view at the top is amazing! Mountains as far as the eye can see! My kids have done this trail three times with me, it’s uphill but not terribly bad.

Turnoff is a little hard to find. We had to go past where maps told us to go. Very easy hike! We took a group of 5 kids. The hike is roughly 3 miles round trip unless you go around the lake which is very steep and tough. The view is incredible.

Beautiful trail. Steep sections but totally do able. Views are amazing.

Loved it! Once you start you go up and up and it doesn’t stop till you reach the top. Be sure you start early to allow for rest breaks. The views at the top are well worth the struggle to get there. Once at the top you will be greeted by goats that are eager to lick any rocks you sit on, but be sure bring a coat and maybe hats/gloves because the wind will cut through you and the temps drop a bit. The down hill was much faster but just as difficult. This is where I got the blisters. All in all, can’t wait to do it again.

Holy Heck!!! This hike was a tough one - but worth every sore muscle. Definitely start early, so you can take lots of well deserved breaks. Goats and scenery were spectacular! The downhill is tougher than the up, (because going down you’re totally exhausted).

This is a great hike. Its straight up and straight down. No flat sections. This is for the well conditioned hiker. Tons of elevation and lots of uneven terain. Most of our party was sore the next day. Training with hills is a good idea first.

Fabulous day of hiking. lots of terrain variations. easy enough.

Just a bit confusing at the beginning as the trails split off in several areas. If you take a minute to review the trail on the map before you go, you should be fine. Nice meadows but no amazing overlooks. About half way up Yellowstone the road changes to gravel, but not an issue for a little FWD car.

Fun hike, and easy! I just did it and am only 6 weeks post partum!

Pros: Close to Spokane, gradual incline, leads to impressive vistas at Rocks of Sharon area, good for trail running Cons: Not very challenging, can be dry and hot in summer,
A friend and I did this route late in the evening in early Sep. 2018. The actual hike itself is pretty easy, and the access road is very well marked and paved. The trail ascends parallel to the creek of its namesake for a ways, then breaks out into some short switchbacks, then you follow a ridge towards the Rocks of Sharon area, which offers some impressive vistas of the land where the forest meets the Palouse of Washington. We managed to watch the sunset from here, then followed the continuation of the loop , using headlamps, through scrub brush back to the trailhead. This would be an ideal trail for trail running, and/or an alternate access to Rocks of Sharon that is closer to Spokane. For someone looking for a spectacular trail with significant ascent, this does not offer that.
3/5 stars

My go-to hike in Spokane. Great trail. Not too far from town. Short enough to do after work in the summers. Great views of both the Palouse and Spokane. Couldn’t ask for more!

Good hike. Great views. I agree with the previous reviews - it is not worth it to hike around the lake. I reached the lake quicker than I anticipated... It’s a little less than 2 miles to get up to the lake.

As mentioned previously, lots of options as far as trails to the top. Easy access to parking and a restroom at the lookout. looking forward to spending time there this winter.

Beautiful hike. Very well maintained trail. Had a little FuzzNgrub at the lakeshore. Definitely going back!

Hiked this trail with a friend on August 29th. The main trail to the lake was fantastic; beautiful and green. There was a little bit of water flow on the waterfall. We attempted to hike around the lake (starting out on the left hand side, couldn't find the path on the right side), but there is not much of a trail. We were climbing over trees and trying to stay away from the steep hillside. When we got halfway around the lake we asked a couple fishing if there was a better trail and they said that it would be best to turn around and go back the way we came. Pretty sure there was a cougar in one of the bushes on our way back, didn't see one but heard a low guttural growling. Not sure how long it had been tracking us, but sounded an air horn and it must of scared it off. Didn't have any problems. Aside from the trail not being great around the lake, the experience was great and the lake was very beautiful. Would go again.

Keep following #65 it's a small sign but as long as you follow it it's easy to find. You will be driving on an unpaved road for a little while. Be patient.

You will need a light layer /sweater. It will get cold when it's getting close to the top.

Need good shoes since you will be walking on rocks later on. but no need hiking shoes. I had trail running shoes and they were fine. You will get dirt on your feet for very much 3/4the time. You shouldn't wear sandals!

Definitely, need water and a little snack. I burned 2300 calories with this whole hike! Get some fuel for coming down!

There are two bathrooms only at the trailhead. Yes, toilet paper but No water.

It took us 5:20 for the whole trail. The ”incline” starts right away. It was a real tough hike!!!! But like everyone says, it is worth to see those cute goats and the view. Some parts are shaded but I wouldn't recommend hiking there if it's hotter than 80s.
If you have a knee issue, you will need a pair of knee compressor or brace for when you are going down.
We had a goat on the trail today when we were coming down and he did not move for a while. My friend threw a little rock gently by the goat and he took off. (not at the goats!!)

Nice trail. Kid friendly. All trails isn't completely accurate on distance. The 4.6 mile loop would be challenging to do w kids as the original trail is overgrown. We followed the loop past that and it cuts back down to the all trails making it about 6 miles. Still worth it. Very beautiful.

nice area, nice flora. cool hemlock forest. grade was a little steep, though; more switchbacks would have welcome. worth doing, though!

Lots of trails to choose from. We took a 6year old and a 12year old, both did great on the trails. There also was a main road up to the lookout that you could take, which was pretty easy. Very wet and foggy today but would have had amazing views without it. Definitely reccomend for the whole family for a nice day hike! We would go again!

Was an amazing hike up except for the two doberman pinschers (not on leashes) that charged at us. Please keep your dogs on leashes there's not much room to move on the trail. Amazing adventure anyway. FYI, it is an easy trail to the lake but gets a bit tricky if you do the loop around the lake because of all the downed trees so beware.

Used the black Nordic trails to Nova Hut then cut over to the green trail and up to the lookout. All is well marked. Any of the trails will get you there and are well kept - much of it old roads. Trail to the lookout is pretty steep with only a few switchbacks. The lookout itself was in use so we had a quick snack and headed back. Several clean restrooms along the way. Our counters showed 6.5 miles so I imagine it depends on which series of trails you choose to use. Saw a young bull moose along Eagle Crest trail - mutually scared the bajeezus out of him and us! All in all, a nice hike. I wish the smoke had cleared. The views would have been beautiful.

Great hike!!! The smoke obscured some of the awesome views but still totally worth it! The sign said not to harass the goats... they were harassing us! Kept coming back up to us to lick the salt off our skin!

Nice walking/running trail. Nothing to write home about but love it for the convenience of location.

Great Hike, smoky this time of year, definitely a decent uphill grade almost all the way in. Be sure you take the last 1/4 mile up the riprap to the summit to the old lookout location for the best views. Too bad we haven’t had much moisture the past month, the huckleberry bushes are extensive but the berries never grew enough.

Beautiful but brutal hike. Trail was well maintained and the views were spectacular. Lots of goats at the top that didn’t try to approach us but were definitely not afraid of humans. Can’t wait to do the hike again. There’s a small campsite toward the top just before the push to the peak that we might try to stay at next time.
