Hike On: Map

Good workout. Near the top it was very wet and rocky and muddy and steep but as long as you have good traction shoes it shouldn’t be too much of a problem. Small area at the top but nice 360 views.

Nice hike, very pretty pool. With all the rain last night there was a lot of mud in spots.

Great hike...kids loved swimming in Rattlesnake Pool.

Backpacked up with the husband and teen. Explored the Slides first- which were gorgeous!!!Then headed up the very aptly named Blueberry Ridge where we stopped for a lunch break with a beautiful view. Then came the tougher climb over the shoulder of Ames to the top of Speckled Mtn. Found a great tent site and there was a little fresh water in the spring, but after the recent drought it was nearly dry. Hopefully this week’s predicted rain fall will refill it. More beautiful views at the top and had a great night. Came down via Bickford Brook trail. All in all- 7 hours to climb up (including detour to play in the Slides, lunch and berry-picking) - 2.5 hours to hike out!

Beautiful trail, great views of presidential range along the way and 360 views at top. A pretty constant incline and some scrambles once you pass Surprise but all manageable. Would recommend footwear with good tread for safety, even if it’s not wet. I’d rate this as easy to moderate, but may be difficult for someone who isn’t in the best shape, however still doable.

Great trail, opening up for some nice views from Surprise peak. Moriah itself offers a stunning 360 degree view of the Whites and Wilderness to the East.

Very nice hike! Terrific views, even though we had hiked up in cloud cover. Recommend going up clockwise and enjoy the views on the way down. Note... take care coming down Blue berry ridge trail if it is wet out as the rocks are very slippery. Doable. Just much slower when wet. Lots of wild flowers so slow down and take a moment to take a pic or two! Completed June 6, 2018.

2 mi loop. 3 mi to see everything. Plenty of deer & ospreys in the area. Everywhere in the forest you'll hear the roar of some distant rolling surf. Beautiful views of Dam, Marsh, & Ocean.

It was difficult with the snow cover, but incredibly beautiful!

FANTASTIC hike!!! moderate but totally doable for even a beginner. it does get steep towards the top, just take your time. the rattlesnake pool and gorge are worth a stop - so majestic and beautiful! the view from the top is one of the best. warning: the trails are NOT well marked. if it wasn’t for this app and a hiker we passed, we would have been plenty lost. the lookout at the top was almost impossible to find. thinking it may be easier to navigate when all the snow melts. the trails were very slippery - lots of wet leaves - just be careful. our pup loved this hike! happy trails!

Hiked 4/6/18. There was 6 inches of fresh snow, shoes would have helped but crampons were fine. Some of the best views having 1,000ft or more of hiking to the summit with constant views. Going to do this again without snow.

Went in after a lot of rain and water level in Bicknell brook was high. Missed the trail to Blueberry because we were upstream a bit for an easier crossing. Also were areas where it was difficult to tell if we were on the tea or just if it was where water was running. Until you get on the ridge there are very few trail markers. Ones that were there just said trail. Other than that issue not is a fantastic hike. Views from the top of Speckled are phenominal

The flume and the pool made the hike worth it. - definitely worth checking out. Not much of a summit view. Trail not really well marked in areas. The footing was good. Was not a difficult trail. Dogs loved it.

Typically spectacular Evans Notch area hike. First hiked on September 1, 1991, with parents using Blueberry Ridge Trail from Brickett Place lot to top of Speckled Mountain. Took about 5 hours. Cleared tent space in trees with fire rings. Last hiked on July 8, 2006, and was a lot tougher going up Blueberry Ridge Trail than I remembered (aging is a bitch). Ran out of water earlier and expected springs were dry. Tented at the top. Hike down Bickford Brook Trial was easy with nice river stops.

What a crazy hike! Very steep and made interesting with the steep rock slabs which fortunately were dry. The whole trail was dry, no creek etc. There were a few mud spots towards the top but no issues crossing. The summit peak is small and did start to get over crowded as everyone wanted to eat their lunch. But I got my pictures and snacks in before heading back. There is a random car at the beginning of the trail. Another really hot and humid day with minimal to zero breeze.

Parking disclaimer - We were the 1st ones that pulled up to the trail head which is in a neighborhood. Sign clearly states no parking but no other sign to say "park here" so we ended up parking on Mill street and crossed the suspension bridge. When we left we saw a bunch of people had chosen to park in grass area near a few houses and then along the road near the suspension bridge. It would have been nice to see a sign "hikers park here" etc. I was nervous to get towed by angry homeowner so I went with the parking lot near the soccer park.

Wildflowers were abundant! Easy walking. Short trip to rattlesnake gorge and pool highly recommend. Clearest water you've ever seen!!

I went up Bickford Brook trail and barely broke a sweat on it, very gradual. Blueberry Ridge on the way down, killed my knees, but seeing the views from the front was awesome and absolutely beautiful. It rained the night/day before and a lot was still wet and slippery even in the early afternoon. If you want more cardio, go up Blueberry, if you dont want to miss a view, go down it haha.

Quiet, beautiful and makes for a lovely walk in the snow

This afternoon we went for a quick hike on the Stone Trail and Oscar's Trail. All in all, we were out for about 30 minutes. These were both well-cleared trails that were quite easy to hike. Additionally, we took a side-trail called Oscar's Folly. This is the only trail marked difficult in the park. It was actually quite steep leading in and out and not very well cleared, but a fun side-trip, nonetheless.

As we set off on the Stone Trail, a large bird with brown feathers along the back of its wingspan swooped across the trail, just up ahead. We walked very quietly hoping to spy it in the trees, but it was long gone. We couldn't help but wonder if it might have been a Barred Owl?

We plan to go back to Poland Spring Preservation Park and try some of the longer trails as well. The Stone Trail and Oscar's Trail are fun and quite easy to travel. Enjoy!

Slippery after rain on the way down. Slid a good 10 feet. More aggressive on the way up versus the easy/moderate grade I was told prior.

The Sapphire pool and Rattlesnake Flume are beautiful. It was a super-easy trek to the pool and a fun, quick swim! Brrrrr!!

Nice solid hike. Lots of flat rock surfaces would be very challenging if wet I'd assume. Lots of great views along the way and a 360 off the tiny peak of Moriah. A good day all around except my knees. The decent put some strain on them but that is part of hiking The Whites in your 40s :)

Did the whole 31 mile section from Rt16 to Rt26 in 3 days. Best trail I have ever been on! extremely challenging, don't stress the notch it is not that hard but plenty of fun. Lots of snow left on May 27th. Probably the best views of the Whites and the Presidentials on a clear day that you can get.

Extremely well marked. Lots of blazes. Nice and steep - a good challenge for a short hike. Great views from Mount Surprise.

Mosquitos gather here to suck our your soul. Plus the trails are all very much the same and dull. And did I mention itchy? Cus it was itchy.....and dull.
