This is our go to trail when hot or raining... The trail is under the canapy and easy to moderate... The trail is always changing and if you are lucky you will see a nice waterfall

Extremely difficult for beginners but beautiful and breathtaking views of the Fall

The best hiking experiences ever! Took 5 hours total (2.5 to get to the top, .5 hours exploring the top and having a snack and 2 hours for the return). Included 10 minutes when trail was blocked to remove a falling boulder.

Nice but exausting

Fairly easy and nice long walk

There are so many trails; even though we follow the direction, we still got lost 3 times and had to trek back. At one point the trail showed on the map/GPS doesn’t exist. Wasn’t sure I was going to make it through; but I did, yay! We got some sun, fog, and rain, too during our hike. Was a great hike though - loved it.

This was a good hike. The reviews about a lot of people is not an exaggeration. However, considering it’s one of the few coastal waterfalls in the country, it was expected. Lots of up hill in both directions. Not much wild life to speak of. We hit the trailhead at approximately 9:30am. It took 3:45 round trip even after spending a little time on the beach and having my hip tighten so the last mile + was slow.

Great hike. Definitely moderate if you’re just doing Miners Trail. If you add in the Corcoran Trail the difficulty and work out goes up.

Wow!! Such a beautiful hike! This hike is a very doable hike. It has a gradual incline and brings you to breath taking views. I suggest making a day of it and start early. Enjoy the beach and relax.

Beautiful scenery along the entire trail. Some wild flowers, a cute fox, 2 lakes, cascading waterfalls, the pacific coast, and Alamere falls itself.

Tips: Bring a swimsuit if you plan to stop at Bass Lake for a swim. If the parking lot is full, you might need to park down the dirt road, possibly as far as a mile from the trailhead so factor that into the total hiking distance.

This is a good trail when you just want to get some distance in. It’s not too challenging and has enough shade to make it doable on an 80 degree afternoon.
The down side is not much scenic variety - mostly laurel and eucalyptus forests.. I like something a little more dramatic or varied but still totally fine and nice to get a longer hike without a long drive..
I’m not the fastest hiker and this took me pretty much exactly 3 hours.

loved this hike. I'm dead today tho

Fun trail but very busy. Bass lake is beautiful as well as the view of the ocean. Weather was perfect!

stream trail is the best, all in redwoods and always chillly

Whether you start from either French Trail or Stream Trail, there's good elevation coming in and out of it. You’ll find several picnic tables along the way and enough bathroom facilities. There's also lots of side trails to explore.

My AllTrails app suddenly stopped recording at one point so I wasn't able to full record my hike but that's ok (pardon the gap on my recording).

If you decide to hike on a weekend and choose Skyline Gate Staging Area as your starting point, try to get there before 8am to have a better chance at finding parking (vs street parking).

Did this hike on a Sunday. Stared around 8:00 am. I felt like it was a pleasant hike. Mostly easy/moderate hike. Few ups and downs along the way.

We “almost” missed the waterfall “secret” entrance. It is right after the second lake. As soon as you cross lake #2, keep and eye on your left. We saw a couple who was tired walking on the flat trail which gave us an indication of the secret passage.

When we went down, I was happy to see first waterfall and there was literally no one there. Except 3-5 other people. Then we realized there’s a ocean access which I could not find a way to. After little bit of a exploring, found a pretty rocky route. So many birds and very few people. Not the cleanest place , but we found a nice spot and ate sandwiches we had packed.

On our way back saw lots and lots of people. I am glad we started when we did :-) we finished the whole thing in 4 hours.

Great trail for beginner or people with some hiking experience.. close to moderate but not too difficult. If u do the hills starting from west side of the lake towards north and then looping down south on the east side of lake will be better than doing the other way around unless u r a hiker who loves going up grades.. the grade from the east side of lake for a 1/2 a mile is steep.. but otherwise the hike is generally easy to moderate.. great views.. about 9 Miles long. 3- 3 1/2 hrs

The part that goes from parking lot to Rodeo Trail is wrong— the path is covered in brush, unmaintained and impassable. I backtracked and went further along the road to get on the trail. After that it was good. Karl the Fog was in full effect. I got lost as usual. Couldnt run strava cos of battery drain but it feels like I ran at least 13.1

What is great about this trail is that you can make it as long or short as you like. There ate lots of trails that off shoot this trail so if you want an extension or if you want to cut it short you can. The French trail is one of my favorites because first of all it’s beautiful, it’s up-and-down to get a nice workout and no bikes!
it really is a good idea to get there early as it does get crowded and it tends to get warm as you’re making your way uphill back to the parking lot. Definitely put this one on you list!

Good hike - views were nice. Parking lot is really small but since we went on a weekday we got a spot. Very steep near the start but otherwise a pleasant hike. Saw lots of lizards and a baby king snake. Got engulfed in a ladybug swarm which was a little strange! Can get a little warm in spots but not bad even in summer.

Very nice elevation loop. You will feel the burn. Start as early as possible.

Excellent mix of flats and climbs. Just enough of a breeze to keep the family cool. The scramble down to the beach was a nice challenge for all of our kids. Thankfully there was another helpful hiker who guided our littlest one down the path.

Stair master 8000! This trail is very difficult and left me exhausted when completed. With that being said, it was one of the most rewarding hikes. Great views and amazing lookout areas. We even swam in the upper Falls river although it is not recommended and can be dangerous. Pack lots of water and be prepared for constant inclines, switchbacks and steps. The footing can be tough so be safe and conquer this difficult hike.

- the boosk

This trail is easy to hike on but can be considered moderate intensity due to the length of the hike. Great views of the waterfalls at the end! It can be a little challenging to climb down onto the beach but its worth the views.

Unrelenting and rigorous uphill switchbacks but well worth the glorious views up top. Take a break at Columbia Rock and brace yourself for a rocky path for at least a couple more hours (moderate pace). Recommend hiking poles and plenty of water, 3L minimum per person. Start early and take bug spray if you descend around sunset. Hard climb but well worth it, you’ll see!

Within few minutes you forget that you are very near to some of the busiest cities. A close-up experience with nature, this moderately rated hike will help you appreciate the much needed quiet time you are missing after living in the city. Good for kids who can manage some elevation.

Really beautiful, horribly crowded, so go early!

Also, ditch the external speakers with terrible music, bro.

(4 stars for the crowds, otherwise 5 stars)

Finished this earlier today and it was incredible! Good mix of up and down hill sections throughout the hike which made it easier on the legs! We found the shortcut relatively easily, as there was an arrow made of rocks that had faint yellow paint on it. When you reach that point you are almost there!
