Phenomenally beautiful views from the peak, but significantly longer and more difficult than listed!

I loved this trail. Very well maintained and there were informational signs (Ecology, geology facts) at most of the switchbacks. There was snow at the end of the trail; you had to cross it to get to the peak, but it was easy. Would definitely do this again. I was there in August 2018 and it was smoky, you could just barely see the top of Mount Shasta peaking out from a layer of smoke.

Gorgeous views at the end and at Clouds Rest. Went on a Wed in November and only saw 5 people.

Took less than 7 hours excluding lunch. I’m fit but not in hiking at altitude shape.
-4 hours up and i took lots of mini breaks.
-2.5 hours down without stopping.

Decent AT&T reception at a couple of spots on the way. Solid reception at Clouds Rest.

The toughest I have ever done!! absolutely worth it! Me and friend went during off season when the cables came down. If that's the case please bring safety equipment (carabineers, harness, leather gloves) if you are planning to do the 400 ft. climb along the face of Half Dome. We did not have that equipment so I didn't do it, because safety always comes first! Have a safe hike guys and don't forget to bring lots of water and salted snacks :)

as of today no snow. great views. took 5 hrs and 45 minutes round trip. highly recommend the hike

One of my favorite hikes! It’s beautiful the whole time you’re hiking, lots of flowers, wild life, and water (ponds, creeks). Definitely a harder hike but well worth it.

Very nice hike! Not to hard and a beautiful view of the park and the lakes at the top!

Very nice well marked trail. Pretty much all uphill on-way but nothing too hard. Very pleasant scenery. Would be awesome around october because of all the aspen trees. Although I hiked it, it would be a nice beginner MTB trail. Some rocks at the beginning you could walk but a good trail without death cliffs. :)

Not much to see on the way there...nothing spectacular BUT when you get to Cloud's Rest, it's like the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. Views are amazing. We had lunch at the top. It was so nice.

One for the bucket list.

Worth the view! but definitely tough. This was 8.2 miles total and pretty steep for most of it. Going back down is easy but I would say this is more hard then Moderate.

Great hike with a solid amount of elevation gain. The hike is 8 miles round trip with 2800 feet of elevation gain. You start winding your way through beautiful forest and emerge to views of Sierra at Tahoe (a local ski resort). After crawling up a steep section the trees begin to thin and eventually you emerge to unbelievable views. You can see more lakes and mountains than you will know what to do with. Have fun and be safe. This is a nice trail all the way to the top, not too rocky and lots of good footing.

Awesome hike with amazing views at the top of half dome. I did this as a day hike in November with the cables down. I left the valley at 630 am right as the sun was coming out and I was the ONLY person at half dome. Had the whole place to myself. The hiking by Vernal and Nevada falls is the toughest part. Half dome is easy with a harness, some rope, and some leather gloves. Half dome with the cables down is a much more enjoyable experience, you just have to be more prepared but definitely worth it! Total hike took 9 hours to the top of half dome and back to the valley, the hike is tough and exhausting but with the appropriate rest and breaks it can be very enjoyable.

Great trail, however this is 4.1 miles each way (value from iWatch plus two trail guides) not the 6.5 stated here!

Beautiful hike this time of the year. The weather was great and helped with the steady climb to the top. Enjoyed it a lot ! Short and moderate hike.

Awesome hike. The beginning is the hardest part. Once you get over the first peak the rest is easy. Takes a while and is pretty cold. My friends and I climbed it as our first mountain and did it in under 6h.

Clouds Rest - what can I say. One of the most rewarding hikes I’ve ever done. The trail starts off very bland, hiking through a Forrest with standard views. The last kilometre though is special!

I agree with the below - as someone who is afraid of heights, the spine is not as scary as expected. The path is wide and has margin for error. If you are afraid, persevere. Take one step at a time, and before you know it, you’ll reach one of the best views Yosemite has to offer!

I’d also recommend:
1) leaving the trailhead before 9am. The trail is popular and leaving later means that you’ll be stuck at the top with quite a few people.
2) bring plenty of water. As of October 31, there is no real water stream to drink from.
3) bring layers. It was -2 degree Celsius (28 degrees Fahrenheit) at the trailhead at 9am.
4) don’t underestimate this hike! I saw a few people on the trail who were really struggling. Be sure to give yourself plenty of time and bring the proper gear (food, water, hiking shoes).

Pay attention to the trail on the app - easy to get on the wrong road. We went late October and unfortunately missed the leaves.

Certainly a hike for your bucket list. Just make sure that you get your permits in advance. We tried to get ours on 5 separate occasions and never got lucky. In the end, on our last day in Yosemite, we decided to hike up anyway to see how far we would be allowed to go. As luck had it, we ran into a group of other hikers who had 2 extra permits, so we were able to make it all the way to the top. Otherwise, the permit check is just below Subdome, which means is that there are some views to be had even without the permit, however, they are nowhere near as impressive as from the top and you won't even see the Half Dome at all. The rangers check the your permit against an ID of at least one person in the group, so if you don't get lucky with your own applications, you really need to find a group of people who have extra permits - getting a permit from people who get tired and turn back doesn't help.

As for the hike itself, it is not nearly as difficult as I had expected it to be. That said, it does take a better part of the day, so be prepared for it, head out early in the morning and bring plenty of water, especially if going in summer. The cables look scarier than they in fact are - the only annoying thing about them is trying to avoid all the people going in the other direction, especially if you arrive during a busier day.

On the way back, my suggestion would be to take the John Muir Trail between Nevada and Vernal Falls. It might be slightly longer but offers stunning views of Nevada Falls and is also less steep than the Mist Trail - something your knees might thank you for later.

In all, if you have the chance and ability, I really can't recommend this highly enough!

I hiked this trail today and it took me about 7hrs total. There is a little bit of climbing, switchbacks, and some scenery and of course the 360 view from the top. I still prefer the Half Dome Trail as it offers a lot more.

Moderate My Ass!

generally: popular hike given destination with panoramic views of half dome and yosemite valley; most of the hike is in the woods with numerous switchbacks, not too much scenery in particular along the way
trailhead: at tenaya lake, go left over the bridge to get to trailhead, plenty of parking along road if not in lot
very busy trail, decent elevation gain and distance, took several hours

Exceptionnel! Vue incroyable ! Environ 7h de hiking en incluant une pause dîner au sommet . Le début est le plus difficile et ensuite c’est un niveau plus modéré

Better Than hiking Lassen Peak trail. Phenomenal views, bring your best camera and plenty of water.

We hiked this last April and it was gorgeous. At the time lots of poison oak and the trails were washed out on lower section.

Like many have said there are trees down on both sides of the loop, not to hard to climb over though. On the lower sections how ever one of the gorges that had a small stream running across that path got blocked debris and diverted the street down along the trail. So roughly 15 yards or so of the trail is washed out. In addition to some other erosion further along at another point that makes the trail very narrow on a pretty steep hill. If you’re thinking of doing the loop it’s advisable that you stay on the upper part.
Took about four hours to complete. Beautiful view at the end and along the way.

Definitely MUCH FURTHER than 4.4 miles - Fitbit tracked at 7.5 miles round trip. Still a great hike, and we got to do the moonlight experience tonight, which was spectacular! definitely tough, with loads of switchbacks buy big rewards the higher you climb!

Vernal and Nevada trail is the hardest part. Once you past that, the rest of the trail is a piece of cake until you get to the sub dome part. Be prepared to scramble your way up to get to the end.
