We love Blood Mountain! It’s a challenging hike, but the views are beautiful and well worth the effort!

Loved this hike! I went up Byron Reece and got a little turned around at the intersection of AT and Freeman’s- I ended up going around Freeman’s Loop and hiking back down the AT. About 7 miles in all today.... the view at the top of the rocks by Blood Mountain Shelter are great! I would rate the hike as moderate- maybe moderately difficult for a new hiker- didn’t expect it to be so rocky! Glad I had my trail shoes on! Took about 3 hours with about a 25 minute rest at the shelter. I’d do again and come up the AT and back down freeman

Cool waterfalls! Would recommend a car that can go through some water otherwise you’ll have to park further back and hike 1 mile uphill to get to the trailhead

Did this with the Big Canoe Hiking Club. Lots of fun. Great hike. Took the traditional route. Recommend this hike for the tremendous views. Good memories here for me...was on this mountain 41 years ago as a student in the US Army Ranger School (Class 10-77).

Great hike. Bridge was down so need to cross on small log or get wet. Well worth the hike.

Views were great but its more of a moderate hike rather than a hard one.

Rained a little bit the whole time but the hike was easy and there was plenty to look at. An excellent day hike.

Very nice trail. We ll definitely do it again

Great views!! Difficult trail, recommend hiking poles. Rocks are slippery coming down. Few places knee high rocks to climb. Few narrow trail spaces too. As many have wandered around to get pictures lot of side tails have developed. Stay on course. I would suggest they add more trail markers towards the end close to the overlooks.

A bit of a tough hike but worth it! Amazing view from the top! It was uphill and had some steep parts. Took my German Shepherd with me.

Beautiful hike and amazing day. Me and my wife completed in 3.5 hours. It starts with Byron Reece trailhead and there is 0.7 miles of rocky stairs meeting at intersection for Freeman and Appalachian Trail. We took AT to climb and loop back to freeman trail. AT its bit heavily trafficked and freeman trail path is low trafficked. Freeman Trail is rocky and it rained today, so was very slippery. But overall the view from top calls for another visit to this beauty.

Its out first hike on Appalachian Trail

I have hiked this trail since I started living in GA. I stumbled across Indian Grave Road looking for the AT. Was meeting a friend who was section flip-flopping the AT. That’s what we call his journey.

Recently I noticed the bridge being down and am interested in seeing a repair done. I am currently reaching out to to some Boy Scout Troops to see if can get volunteer help. Things are starting to look good as far as getting in front of Scout people who matter.

I have been in the construction industry my entire life. I wouldn’t mind seeing where I can get materials donated or discounted.

I would love to know how to reach someone who may have “control” of this trail. Forest service? State?

Would love to see this bridge get repaired. It is a beautiful surprise at the bottom. Absolutely one of my favorites! One of my top recommended hikes to most people in conversation.

I will attach a contact email for anyone interested or could help provide information.

Greatly appreciated!

An absolute beautiful National Park. Well worth the price of admission. I was especially impressed with the Lions hiking trail for the blind.

Moderate to difficult the closer you get to the summit. Well worth it! Awesome views

We stayed in an Airbnb on the other side of the trail, it was a fun hike but there was very little signage from that direction.

I love this trail for the family. Very peaceful and beautiful, it's a great trail for your pet as well. Be prepared to pull over though paths are slim in some parts.

Really fun hike! The end is great.

Best hike ever !!!

Arrived 9am on a Sunday morning in early October. Parking lot was almost full but still a few spots. Seems to be a popular spot for overnight camping so weekend mornings are probably the worst in terms of parking, along with holidays.

Went up the AT and down Freeman - found this hike pretty easy, got up in just over an hour. Couple of good spots for views but not too many tbh.

Freeman descent was very easy, it was very wet but still not a single area where I was concerned.

Overall not much of a challenge for anyone used to hiking.

Keep in mind all reviews are relative - I hike a lot.

Other than the two snakes not a bad climb knocked one star trail not clearly marked in some places

Watch out for snakes. Follow green blazes otherwise you might end up taking a side trail. Difficulty moderate

Great hike. Only moderate if you're new to hiking, otherwise it's fairly easy. Make sure you have good shoes because the roots will test your footwear appropriately, which is really the only moderate part of the hike.

You're rewarded with a great cliff spot at the end, but get there early because around 10 onward it started filling up.

Signs posted saying trail closed due to bridge out. Did not get to hike this trail today. Disappointed. If it would not have been posted, would have hiked it anyway.

Pretty nice views from the top of Blood Mountain Trail. Overall it’s a bit of a rocky hike and when I went it had just rained so it is a bit slippery. There is one part after the freeman trail meets the Byron Reese And Appalachian trails that it is difficult to see where the AT goes next. The freeman trail is a bit narrow on the way back.

Superb Hike I will call it ! Amazing trail ending up to the mountain view. For naive hikers, its little difficult, me and my wife climbed it in 1 hr. Definitely recommend it to hike this Mount.

No warnings for the roads to get to the trail head. GPS took us the back way. Good thing we had a 4 wheel drive, we saw a minivan get stuck near a creek on the trail. The trail itself was perfect for me and my kids and the falls are beautiful. We saw a small snake, went for a dip... it was a fun adventure overall!

The hike was absolutely amazing. We stayed and watched the sunset at the top and hiked down via the AT with headlamps. It was by far the best sunset I’ve seen in GA! It took us about an hour and a half to get up and maybe 45 minutes to get down but we hiked at a pretty quick pace. Not the easiest hike but definitely not horribly challenging.

beautiful. a lot of water. ^_^
Many places to stop and just meditate

Beautiful views and we'll maintained trail. No worries crossing at broken bridge! Just made it more fun. Keep your eyes open or you'll miss the turn!

Cool hike. Nice views
