Steady incline, gorgeous views. Once you get closer to the top there’s quite a few stretches of stairs but the end view is totally worth it!
Steady incline until the top and there are stairs which are pretty steep. We started at 10ish and it was about 2 hours- we hung out at the top and chatted for a bit. Amazing views
Great little trail. Took me 45 min up and 40 down so total time 1h 25min with a couple photo/video stops. Make sure to bring boots with a good sole, it’s a slippery slope and you’re gonna need it especially on the way down. It was a bit foggy and I couldn’t see anything at the top, still gorgeous views on the way up
AllTrails has this trail as closed, but it is now open! The guards have been giving out passes for the last couple of weeks. It was extremely muddy this weekend with limited views at the top due to the rain, but it was still a great hike.
Very rewarding hike. A great trail for mid-day as most of it is covered. Once you reach the stairs it's about 20 more minutes until the view, it feels a little long but just keep going; it is so worth it! You get a beautiful view of the east side :-)
Extremely muddy!
Very muddy!
Is the trail open this weekend ?
Nice out and back, lots of muddy stairs towards the top. There’s a longer loop along the ridge that we opted against because it was so windy and seemed dangerous but beautiful for another time!
Literally the most miserable hike of my life. DO NOT HIKE THIS IN THE RAIN! Felt like I was going to die several times and was literally eaten alive my mosquitos. Is the waterfall cool? Yes. Is it worth risking your life and/or wishing you were dead for 8 hours? No.
By far my favorite hike to a waterfall so far. The waterfall is breathtaking and the hike is challenging enough to enjoy the reward. The real kicker is coming back and hiking up for almost 2 miles straight. Will do again! Completed 11/8/20
Really beautiful trail though a bit crowded for me today. I can see where parking is an issue for the community, and did notice lots of dog waste bags on the way back down. Though each dog owner I met on trail seemed very kind so I’ll give the benefit of the doubt that they’ll retrieve the waste at the end of the hike. Recommend solid shoes and poles if your balance is lacking
Solid trail but not much of a view in the clouds. Was a little bit slippery from the moisture. Would definitely try again on a clearer day.
It was an easy hike which worked very well for us since we planned to do something else in that day. Getting there by Friday morning 10:30 and the parking at the trail head was full, the overflow parking place is about mile away down at the bottom of the hill. So we decided to wait for the available parking spot. Didn’t take us too long of waiting. The hike is great. Sunny and windy but not cold at all. The trail is in good condition, I wore my hiking boots but saw lots of hikers with their Nike sneakers or sandals. The view is beautiful, you can see the water falls from distance, and the ocean views are awesome!
Absolutely gorgeous 360 degree views and a fun uphill challenge
Great hike. Just when you think you hit the last set of stairs...
A few muddy spots from the rain the other day but otherwise trail was well marked!
really good trail that was dry for the first time that I've ever been on it. what a night and day difference that makes! this is the first time I've ever tried to go to the absolute end because the last 10 or 15% is just so sketchy when it's wet. Recommend footwear with good traction for slick clay and I personally wouldn't do this trail without a walking stick or a trekking pole.
must do in Maui.
super fun with an extension up to Lanipo.
Keep going, don’t stop, don’t quit: the view is worth it.
This may be my favorite hike on O’ahu. It’s long enough the get a workout, but has such a rewarding view at the end. It’s got switchbacks that don’t feel repetitive, it’s shaded well, and it has a pretty consistent incline. Please make the time to climb!
Awesome trail! I did it on a cloudy day but the views were still visible. It took me an hour and a half to make it to the top but I had to go back down and up a steep part of the mountain to retrieve my water bottle that rolled down. The cloud cover made it for comfortable conditions to hike in. Not hot at all and really breezy! Easy terrain to navigate through. Ps: Great for solo hikers!
Beautiful jungle trail along the Kahekiki highway. The trail is well marked from the road and there's lots of parking at the base. There are even porta potties. The hike starts out on a very steep road, then leads into a steady uphill jungle path. the trail is quite steep at times and slick so wear good shoes. It's more a strenuous hike so be in shape. Beautiful views, however, we hiked above the clouds and couldn't see anything after a point. It's 2 miles up and climbing most of the way. There's a picnic bench at the top for a rest before making your way down.
