Beautiful trail with two sets of waterfalls to look forward to and swim in. Very easy to hike, many people were also there with small children. The trail goes on after the second waterfall but there isn’t a lot past it, and you’ll have to come back the way you came in. Overall gorgeous little nature walk.

This trail was super fun. Be careful as there are two ways to get down to the waterfall (one of which is substantially harder- make sure you go to the entrance that is further from the waterfall). There are ropes set up to help you down, as well as many tree roots. Can be slippery and muddy, especially if it has just rained. The view at the bottom is completely worth all the effort getting down!

It turned out to be the most challenging hike/trail when several paths threw us off our mind and we were full of uncertainty. When we got lost and had to find our way to restart once again. When we thought of turning around at some point. When all we hear was the forest noise and nothing else. When we know it was in the middle of no where of Makaleha rain forest. The view at the end was worth it but I would suggest to go with a local guide next time. It was by far the most difficult hike in Kauai for us.

Don’t forget to bring insect repellent.
Get ready to get muddy.

Follow the stream if you are uncertain of your way back and forth.

This hike is fun, however when we we're hiking the trail we actually ended up going in a circle we had to come around and hike up the river. After that the hike went smoothly however what is and isn't the trail isn't clear, but the destination is well worth it.

Short and enjoyable. the highlight is the jungle greenery, which is as good as we've seen it anywhere on the island in the last 3 weeks. two very nice waterfalls, although they won't blow your mind. gorgeous flowers, vines, and vast soaring trees, though. slightly muddy but nothing to worry about.

My girlfriend and I are in our early 50s. 1.5 hours in and about the same out. Totally worth it once you get to the end.

This is hands down the best thing I’ve ever done. It took about 45 minutes each way and was fairly steep in some parts. The view at the end is absolutely spectacular as are the views on the walk there and back. We left at 7:30am and by the time we got back around 10am clouds were starting to roll in. Temperature was fine going out but starting to get hot on the return trip. I do not like heights and did find parts of this trail very scary however the friend I was walking with had no problems. Just take it slow if you’re feeling worried, the views are most definitely worth it.

Warm, bring water. decently difficult hike. Hike to top of huge waterfall. Able to get into a small fall. Was worth the hike, I recommend.

Decent view at the end but the walk down has no views. Do yourself a favour and walk Nu’alolo Trail instead.

Wow wow wow. Wow. Wow wow wow wow wow wow wow.

This beats all of the other trails I’ve done in Hawaii in terms of views and in just 4km total.

You should absolutely do this. Take your big camera. Hell, just arrive here one morning and stay until sunset.

Awesome! Just do it!

Absolutely worth the trek! I went down in bare feet and up wit shoes on - it is extremely slippery and very steep. Also, you can get ticketed and fined as the trail is marked closed - do not enter. If you are feeling ballsy then go for it - the views at the end are amazingly ng and the falls are a nice treat to cool off before heading back up. Warning - ropes are NOT stable and can break at any moment so try not to use the rope for leverage.

Not really a hike but it is steep and huge roots and ruts on the trail. Beautiful beach not too crowded but it’s getting more traffic of late, boo! Very high tide so not so great for swimming.

Very steep in beginning, but worth it

Best hike! You need to be fit. Unstable ground in some places. Saw women get air lifted out with broken ankle. No joke. We hiked when trail was nice and dry.

Incredible views at the end of the trail. You must visit this trail if you enjoy the Napali coastline and all that it has to offer.

So beautiful! WeR shoes with spikes or you will be crab crawling down the first 1/2 mile. It is ver slippery even in dry conditions. Keep going all beat to the cliff but beware the trail is very narrow and sketchy in places. Not for those afraid of heights! Absolutely quiet and peaceful hike with final views of the Na Pali Coast - Amazing! PS - No flowers on the trail in August

Very nice hike down to pools and the top of the falls. I recommend driving down to the trailhead if you have 4 wheel drive. I met some nice gals for Germany and the Netherlands and we hiked together - fairly high traffic and you will slide if your shoes don’t have good traction or spikes. Enjoy!

Take DEET or similar as there are lots of mossies.

Did not go to the final waterfall but even so the view was spectacular and worthwhile. Muddy, sure, but just dunk your feet at the numerous crossings and wash it off. Really enjoyed the first bamboo section just after the initial crossing.

Great hike! Challenging with the elevation drops and gains however worth the reward at the end!

Wonderful trail with something for everyone. We enjoyed the hike including the great scenic views and awesome reward at the end with the waterfall.

Great adventure! Super muddy and trials aren’t well marked, but it’s fun finding your own path, and finishing at a beautiful water fall. We couldn’t find the first waterfall, so we went to the secret falls. This is where the pictures are taken. There were places to jump into the water.

This hike was exactly as advertised. Downhill on the way out through jungle-type setting that eventually opens up and finishes with jaw-dropping views. Wouldn't have minded some additional views along the way, but the end result will make you forget any complaints.

I have hiked all over the world and this is easily one of the coolest and most beautiful trails I've ever done. Especially, if you connect to the other trails towards the end.

The canyon views are truly breathtaking and the structure of the trail itself is really neat. At points it's like a puzzle trying to figure out the best steps to take. My kind of hiking!

I can understand why some non-hiking types would not like it, but if you enjoy a fun and unique trail with truly amazing views then this one should be at the top of your list.

The reviews here a spot on. I'd recommend if it has been raining to do it a different day. The trail will be muddy and your climb out will not be fun along with damaging the trail. We wore shorts and short sleeve shirts, got scratched up a little but nothing too bad. It is overgrown but I prefer it that way sometimes, it cuts down on the crowds. The trail is well marked with colored tape in the trees. Views at the end are the best I found in Kauai. You can continue past the end waypoint on all trails but there is a lot of exposure so do so carefully.

Like others said, lots of mud. We did the trail two days ago and the river seemed like it might have been higher than other times. I had read reviews of people being able to keep at least one foot dry, no way that was happening for us. In places you had to walk through calf deep water or risk jumping from slick rock to slick rock. Trail can be hard to find and there are many offshoots. Overall, it's a great adventure in a beautiful place.

On this my second time on this incredible trail I was accompanied by my son and daughter in law, both very adventurous hikers. The trail is, as before, poorly marked with little indication of where to attempt the numerous stream crossings. As others have warned, this is NOT a hike for inexperienced or less than very fit hikers and definitely NOT a hike for young children. The water level in the stream can rise significantly without warning due to rains existing far from the trail. You will get lost on this trail and will have to back track on occasion. Twisted ankles and other trip and fall injuries are all to possible. Don’t expect a fellow hiker to be nearby for help. This trail is very lightly traveled.

Having said all that, the beauty of the hike and the accomplishment of reaching the triple falls makes this an epic hike and well worth the effort, if you exercise caution.

Definitely a must do if you are in Kaua’i! Good for all skill levels. Views are simply breathtaking !

One of the most beautiful trails I've ever done. This trail was definitely tricky, but not impossible. My 64 year old dad was able to do it without much issue (just needed to stop and rest a lot). To get here, drive all the way up to the Kalalau Lookout and go through the small gate on the left, right before the lookout spot. It starts with a decently steep downhill portion and then mostly evens out once you get to a clearing with some grass. The trail is pretty narrow, dropping to about 18in at some points with steep dropoffs at either side. When you get to the ridge there are portions with a lot of thick grasses/fern bushes on either side so wear long sleeves and pants if you want to avoid getting scratched up. If it has rained a lot recently I would NOT suggest this trail. This isn't one you want to slip and fall on.

Wear good shoes, stay aware of the trail conditions, get there early and you'll be fine.
