Part of the trail was washed out. It took a little exploring to find the trail again, but at the tip was beautiful. Forewarned you will get muddy. There is also a way down to the river and the walk back along the river is beautiful. There are numerous places to jump in and see the natural pools.

This hike started out bad with an unsafe road to get to the trailhead. I'm talking about potholes and mountain pavement bumps that if I was actually driving faster than 15 mph, would have taken off a tire. then the trail itself... I went for the allure of the "spring and waterfall." Only to find instead, (after killing myself getting down a steep, slippery trail) that there is no spring and no waterfall. Only a bunch of creepy caves that reminded me of something out of an underground crypt. Then the rest of the hike-gave me the feeling of being in a scary movie. I didn't mention this to my husband thinking it was just me, but wasn't surprised when he brought it up towards the end of the trail all on his own. And wouldn't you Know it, he says not two minutes after the creepy vibe Conversation that "the lady in her fancy dress sketching" didn't help. Needless to say, I did not see the lady nor did I want to go back so he could "prove he Saw her." I do a lot of hiking, especially in forested areas, but this was a different Kind of vibe that I do not want to re-create.

Absolutely beautiful. I wouldn’t consider it as much of a hike as it is a lookout. That said, worth the stop. Please stay on the main trail, as you could be fined for walking off, but more importantly it keeps you and the local ecosystem safe. The right is wheelchair friendly, the left requires stairs (the right is a better view of the falls anyways). There is a bathroom and seems highly trafficked, but it was easy for us to take pictures around the people.

This is a great little spot. While not a real hike (don’t expect to get your steps in here) it’s certainly a great return on the investment. Being our last day in Maui, and having 6 hours to kill before our flight, the family and I was looking for something quick and easy we could see without destroying our “going home” clothes. This was it. The whole think took less than 30 minutes and the needle was a fantastic site. The whole path is paved and the most strenuous part is the 40 or so stairs to the top lookout site.

Beautiful overlook. This is a two level overlook - there is no trail at all.

Enjoyable loop. Lots to see, so nobody complained about the climb coming out.

Easy waterfall, just walk out of the parking lot to see it. Cool Banyan trees at the top of the falls.

Great short hike. It’s a little up hill at the beginning but the rest is pretty flat. It took us a little less then an hour up and back.

Amazing hike. It’s a popular trail, so expect to share it with plenty others, but it’s so beautiful that it didn’t matter to me. The first waterfall is a nice one off in the distance. The bamboo forest seems pretty magical. I like the sound of them knocking into each other as the wind blows. The waterfall at the end is spectacular. There is a sign at the end of the trail that states the danger of the waterfall, but the trail continues on to go right up to the falls and it’s such a wonderful experience to look up and see the water falling down this huge cliff 400 ft above you. Just don’t go under the falls! Imagine a stick or pebble going over the top and falling 400 ft picking up velocity until it smashes into your skull. It was the perfect final destination on our road to Hana day trip.

Really nicely maintained trail with paved paths through lush and beautiful rainforest. It was a short trail, but I think it's a must-do if you're visiting Hawaii. You can only see the falls from a distance though, so don't expect to get too close... You won't get wet.

Cool if you've never seen a lava tube before.

Beautiful, paradise hike in 2014 when I hiked to Hanakapi’ai Beach and then on to the Falls! Unbelievable views.

loved. amazing finish

The trail is wonderful and not very technical at all, but it is long (22 miles) and often very slippery. If you like long beautiful hikes this is the way to go. I would recommend to leave super early so you can make it back before dark. Take a Lifestraw with you to save dragging water with you. At the half way (11mile) mark, before turning around, make sure to dip in the creek - it is magical.

This was one of the coolest hikes I've ever done. Every waterfall is amazing and the second half through the bamboo forest was surreal! 100% would recommend for anyone in Maui

A short trail that everyone can enjoy. Good for kids and old people. The youngest (2) and oldest (72) in our party walked the whole way without issues. Great views of the lush, green valley, rushing water and the Iao Needle of course. Path can be muddy or slippery with the moisture from rain and there are steps to navigate, so I would suggest a sturdy shoe or, better yet, a hiking shoe.

Short and beautiful. No rain .

great hike to the falls ! highly recommend!

Any update on the trail opening? Is there another way to access the trail (kayak or another trail head?) Are there other long hikes on the island that you all like? My gf and I like to hike and booked a trip in August, but it looks like our luck has run thin...

Didn’t resort to crawling but absolutely pegged my adrenaline meter when I hiked this back in 1977

Loved every moment of it. From the bamboo forest to the crossing of the raging stream. If you don’t mind getting a little wet, go all the way!!

Loved it!! Rather muddy so go prepared. Early if you want to avoid crowds.

Not much of a hike but cool views.

What a treat! The falls at the end of the trail was spectacular. Walking through the bamboo forest was pretty cool also.
It had rained most of the morning, so the trail was very muddy in the afternoon. It got a little slick going down hill. Wear good traction shoes. It helped a lot. I could hike this trail every day for a year and love it every time. A must hike on Maui.
