Great walk. Some cloud at the top but no issues with views in the crater. At the first fork I stashed my bag behind a bush and completed the loop with less weight. Easy right up until the re-ascent.

I would say 4WD is for the muddy days only, but it is a dirt road for at least / almost 2 mi up to the trailhead. WOW for a mystical forest experience, this is the one! Trail is uncrowded just because of how far up it is. You do drop down, and into the rain forest where all the plants are dripping wet, even if it's not raining. Very misty in here. Beautiful views. There are also many more trail options that are not listed here.

Part of the trail was washed out. It took a little exploring to find the trail again, but at the tip was beautiful. Forewarned you will get muddy. There is also a way down to the river and the walk back along the river is beautiful. There are numerous places to jump in and see the natural pools.

This is a great little spot. While not a real hike (don’t expect to get your steps in here) it’s certainly a great return on the investment. Being our last day in Maui, and having 6 hours to kill before our flight, the family and I was looking for something quick and easy we could see without destroying our “going home” clothes. This was it. The whole think took less than 30 minutes and the needle was a fantastic site. The whole path is paved and the most strenuous part is the 40 or so stairs to the top lookout site.

lots of people. beautiful falls. bring water shoes.

Not best views, nice stop much better trails farther down road to Hana

A short trail that everyone can enjoy. Good for kids and old people. The youngest (2) and oldest (72) in our party walked the whole way without issues. Great views of the lush, green valley, rushing water and the Iao Needle of course. Path can be muddy or slippery with the moisture from rain and there are steps to navigate, so I would suggest a sturdy shoe or, better yet, a hiking shoe.

1pm all clouds, go in the morning.

Not much of a hike but cool views.

Very crowded. Basically could have driven to the first and second falls. The upper falls had a nice pool everyone could swim in. If you go to the second falls make sure you have water shoes. Good hike to do with the whole family.

Very nice hike. Easy except for the river you must cross. But take it show and you’ll get through. A little walk over a wall to the river and falls. Beautiful.

Really beautiful falls. Get there early as it is a bit of a zoo. However most people do not continue past the closed gates marked “experienced hikers only” so once you clear that it is more serene and there are more pools.

Easy with light elevation change - difficult to run up the hill towards the "unaccessable" water fall - beautiful trail - Once you get to the water fall, if you have the juevos to jump across you can trek up the stream to a real water fall and swimming pond - get there early as it loads up with people and parking is limited on the Hana Hwy. - worth the stop for a quick trek up the hill.

Not a difficult hike, but not much to see. There are much nicer views on the Road to Hana.

Was amazing BEAUTIFUL and full of history

not really "hiking". It's just climbing stairs and walking. It's a good view though. The secret trail is much better and more rewarding.

Seems it's more a surfing place than typical beach fun, lots of rocks.

The views are great though.

Loved these falls for the uniqueness, got a pic positioned in between the 2 falls pouring over, awesome!

Pretty neat place, worth the stop. Staff provides good info but there is a cost to incur. Locals get a discount.

Love the valley! Pay close attention to the needle as the arch bridge may be hard to see pending weather conditions.

Would love to explore the area for trails but lots of restrictions for safety reasons.

Absolutely loved the views in this short hike high above the clouds. What a thrill!

Not much of a hike, more of a place to hang out on the beach. Watch the surfers and kiteboarders, hang out with the sea turtles.

This is one of the best easily accessible hikes on Maui. I always recommend it to people. Make sure you go all the way to the end! You need to swim for about 5 minutes to reach the last waterfall.

There wasn't much to see the day I was there in January. Plenty of vegetation along the trail but no lookout points, waterfalls, or other points of interest. Perhaps the jungle was overgrown to the point of blocking the view...?

Beautiful scenery but secret trails are an added bonus

Short walk to an overlook. Cool view of the weather is on your side. We had high winds but it was worth it to get out of the car on the way up to the summit. Easy walk.

Great hike for people looking to go to the crater floor. We opted to turn back where the trail splits into a loop, which made the total hike 7.8 miles. This was a good alternative to 11-12 miles. The descent and ascent are gradual and the biggest obstacle is the weather. When I hiked it in late April the weather changed every few minutes from cloudy to windy to misty to downpour. Come prepared. There are no services along the trail. That said, weather permitting, there can be same great views of the barren landscape.
