Me and my pal did it a while back on cross country bikes would definitely avoid that one section that had a sandy path to the look out tower we didn’t stand a chance in the sand. It was so how I had two water bottles and we ran out before half way go early avoid the sun wear proper attire cause it’s HOT

Did the trail 4 days ago. Great views along the trail. muddy in some areas. Avoid after the rain- looks like it wold be very slippery and dangerous. Trekking poles or a walking stick would be a great idea for navigating the muddy areas. We stopped at the picnic tables.

Great hike! We were there the next day after the rain and it was quite muddy. Otherwise it was amazing.

Such a fun hike. Challenging, but not so much that you’re dead after. Definitely wear shoes with good traction- teva’s style or actual boots. Best if followed up with happy hour at Lava Lava Beach Club!

Lovely trail, excellent views. The most challenging aspect of it is the elevation gain, but if you have a lot of hiking experience, I definitely wouldn't rate it as moderate. It's a good trail for less experienced individuals or those just getting into hiking!

Easy. Nice

Was on the easy side of moderate rained about 1/2 of the hike can be slippery in spots so be prepared to get muddy

beautiful trail with some parts to get your heart pumping haha.

Beautiful, totally enjoyed this hike in combination with kayaking, crossing a river and getting totally wet, and seeing waterfalls.

I suggest to do just the Canyon trail and back. The view is great and the trail is fun. The Black pipe is not worth it at all.

Wonderful hike, but it's more like a walk. No shades so it's better on a cloudy or cooler day. Be sure to put your sunscreen on, hats, shades, and plenty water is a must. We walked to the tip of the island, then we walked all the way to the North shore parking lot, and then we followed the metal fence back down to the Waianae side parking lot. We saw the ground nesting birds and seals at the tip.

We did this hike with a toddler in a backpack.

We did not have 4WD so had to walk along the muddy road to get to the trail head. No biggie... just make sure to allow for time.

A good portion of the trail is covered. Quite open and very hot closer to the top.

Great views and some cool little spots for the nugget to explore.

Got caught in heavy rain on the way back on the road. I imagine parts of this trail would be very slick when wet.

Significantly less muddy than the Kuamo’o trail leading up to the summit. Can’t speak on how strenuous this side is because we hiked up from Kuamo’o and descended here. Better views of the valley from this side. A little overgrown in some spots.

More challenging than described . Disappointed with the final lookout.

I loved this hike. The view at the top of the ridge was well worth it. BUT. This trail IS and/or can be very difficult. I had a relatively good route up and only slowed down at one part with tree roots and the many stairs toward the top, however I would definitely recommend either shoes with good traction or even hiking boots! The route going down, on the other hand, due to being tired and rain while I was going up.. was very difficult. It got significantly more muddy and slippery. I would not recommend this hike to anyone that does not have experience in hiking or someone looking for a fun hike. It can easily turn into not so fun!

My recommendations:

1. Shoes with traction or hiking boots
2. Lots of water
3. Start early! It gets hot! And it’s not a super quick hike. You’ll wanna get done before sundown.
4. Travel with a buddy! There are some dangerous spots. Always have a bud to be by your side!
5. Positive attitude (it is a bit difficult! Keep your eyes toward the sky!)

Nice, easy walk flat trail with mud and rocks. Scenery is beautiful there were seals sunbathing and birds.

Planned on running it but ended go hiking due to all the mud. It was still worth it and had amazing views.

Good work out

Awesome day of hiking today. There’s even a small cave to explore. The tortoises were a nice bonus as well. The views... well words can’t express it. You have to see it for yourself!!

This is a GORGEOUS hike!!! The views are outstanding. Like others have said, keep going after the picnic table. 360 degrees of views. There is mud and some scrambling, but bring one of the discarded walking sticks left by previous hikers to aid you a long the way.

This is hike hosts my favorite views in Kaua’i!

If you are in Kaua’i this is a must see. If you can get here slightly before sunrise this will be one of the best memories you take home with you.

It’s an easy walk but if you go far enough it can be good exercise. There are multiple trails leading to the same place. Many people jog it as well but you miss some of the views on the jogging trail. Not easy enough for those who can’t go up hill around rocks when necessary but good for adults and children.

At first glance, I was surprised at the rating (hard). 1800 vertical and a 6.4 mile roundtrip sounded more in the moderate range. But by the time we went down and back up, I was thoroughly challenged. It was gratifying and worth it though.

It was muddy, as I suspect is often the case. I actually wore some old sneakers and tossed them
after the hike! But anyone in average to above fitness can do it. I was glad to have packed an extra (dry!) shirt. Between tropical humidity and moisture drifting in from the ocean in the last mile, I think you should probable come to this trail assuming muddy conditions. And then we had a cloudburst.

In our early 50s and I’m a below knee amputee so it took us about 1:45 down and 2:15 up.

Loved the views and the hike. Great hike !

Beautiful and fun hike! Did this early in the morning and it poured down rain. Slippery trail. Lots of gnats because of the fruit on the trail, mosquitoes too. Crossed the river a few times which was a bit tricky. Nice stop at the beach along the way.

Trail was a little muddy in places but the views were spectacular!

It's sooooo beautiful! just be careful, it can be really slippery!

A “Must” on anyone’s bucket list if hikes. Take plenty of water and snacks as the afternoon gets very hot and you are exposed to the sun.

This was a pretty challenging hike, especially after some solid rainfall in the morning. Would definitely recommend wearing sturdy hiking shoes, as a lot of the trail is muddy and wet—as a result it is very slick. The different terrains as you make your way up in elevation is a cool part of this hike. The stairs up to the top were particularly frightening for us, however definitely worth the view. Will admit we did this one on a whim and were a little unprepared in terms of gear, water, and bug spray, but when prepared it is definitely a good one. This was our last of our trip and it sent us out with a bang!
