Great cardio workout. Beware- there is hardly any shade on the trail. The views are gorgeous!

Very beautiful. I recommend going clockwise (especially if you are a runner) - the ascent will be less steep this way. But get ready for a steep and slippery way down.

I liked that this hike was super hard for just 2 miles and then it was easy breezy. My friend and I brought trekking poles and were really happy that we did (would have been so slippery otherwise). Forgot to check Alltrails so we ended up taking the road back at the last mile making the hike 7.5 miles, 2100 ft elevation gain.

Nice loop trail that starts at Brand park and goes through seven trees and upward towards Mount Thom, and then continued towards Mount Tungva. I then continued passed Mount Tungva on the fire road and came to the intersection between Verdugo Motorway and Verdugo Crest. I took the left trail named Brand Motorway and went down all the way back to Brand Park. A nice 7.10 mile loop hike that will kick your butt on the way up.

First 2 mile, all the way to top to FCC tower, most treacherous incline, after that very easy. Wonderful view from top. worth for challenging!

Loved this hike! We went on Friday morning of April 19th to give you an idea of the weather. Since it wasn’t a weekend we were basically the only ones on the hike, so we were able to let our dog off leash for the whole hike. There’s not a lot of shade but depending on the time of day the mountain creates its own shade. Since it was getting hot there were a ton of bugs and reptilian creatures hanging out. We went to the right then looped around to the left and highly recommend. This allows you to get the steep stuff over with pretty quickly and the rest is an easy downhill slope. Because of the steep part I would highly recommend Solomon shoes or hiking boots, it’s loose dirt and very easy to slip because of the steepness. Love this mountain range and love the hikes we’ve done on it! We did the steep stuff as fast as we could manage then took our time with the rest, took us about 2.5 hours. Hope you enjoy as much as we did!

Just did this and we feel amazing! We stayed 45 minutes after sunset but it was somewhat okay if you have lamp or phone with you. We did counter clockwise but at the last 3/4 of a mile or so we continued down the pavement instead going on the trails. It is not clearly marked and we didn’t pay attention towards the end. This way was 7 miles total. Start of the trail is a bit confusing and since we came back other way we ended up on the left side of the library while actual start/end is on the right side of the library. Hope this helps someone :)

I wouldn't rate it as hard. An avid hiker should have no difficulty. It was a very beautiful hike with trails that go as far as the naked eye can see. It is definitely worth the climb once you get to the top.

Highly recommended trail. Beautiful and well marked! Also, don’t get frightening if you hear some gun shots (I did), there is a police station considerably close to the trail :)

dig this place.

This hike will defiantly get your heart going. The downhill is a bit dodgy therefore I would recommend doing with trekking poles. The views are incredible on a clear day.

We did this loop Saturday March 9th. Its a great work out the first couple of miles until you reach the ridge fire road.. Then is pretty easy going on the ridge with beautiful views of downtown and the Hollywood hills.

Very beautiful trail, no doubt. The view is gorgeous at nearly every single spot on that trail. I even told my brother that the views along the trail were even more impressive than the view at the very peak. I thought, " Oh, the trail is rated hard? Whatever. It's steep." Oh boy, I didn't realize how steep it would be. Going up the hills for 3 miles was a challenge, but it was completely tolerable. You would have grab on some rocks, master your balance, and really watch where youre going. But overall, it was tolerable. Don't think it's just some incline that would be hard for old people. No, no, no. It can get very steep. I'm a teenager that exercises 4 times a week at the gym. It's not about fitness, but more so the grip your shoes have on the path. It can get scary, man. The real challenge was going downhill. Going downhill made going uphill seem like a piece of cake. Imagine you're going downhill on a tremendously steep incline, like maybe those V shaped house roofs or slides at playgrounds (minus anything to hold onto to balance). You can slip, your foot can slip if there's not much traction. I genuinely thought I might die today. You can watch where you're going all you want, but if your shoe slips because a lack of traction or the gravel beneath your shoes decides to slide, you will fall on the path. The paths aren't too narrow, but it is still frightening to think you might fall off the mountain. I have gone to a bunch of hiking trails. This one was very gorgeous, but I don't think I'd ever want to come back here. And I would never consider taking anyone here, period. I give it five stars because it did say it was a hard trail. People know what they're getting into. Also, it's beautiful.

Great workout, rewarding 360 views on top. On a clear summer day you can see the ocean. Best time to go is in the spring when the wildflowers are in full bloom. Have seen a few rattle snakes. The Burbank police academy is tucked in between these mountains so don’t be alarmed if you randomly hear gun shots. Wilderness firefighters in training occasionally train here in hot summer days with all their heavy gear.

We hazarded the hike on a cold and rainy day. We were rewarded with gorgeous views and a double rainbow. This feels like a city hike, similar to more remote parts of Griffith Park. There was basically no shade on the trail, making it an ideal winter hike.

Great hike with a killer uphill for the first 2 miles or so. After that it's an enjoyable walk along the crest and then back down a fire road (boring, but much easier on the knees and anxiety). Had a little trouble finding the trailhead, but if you go behind the library and to the right, it's right there. Or you can go on the fire road, and take a right to a few switchbacks to get to the tough part first. Training for Whitney so this is a must as I move onto the Six Pack of Peaks.

Stough Canyon was closed due to mudslides, so I opted for its neighbor, Vital Link Trail. 3.2 mi doesn’t seem like a lot, until you’re a half mile in and realize the entire trail is basically a vertical climb (1,699 ft gain). The views make it totally worth the climb and you can bag a mini “peak” in under 2 hrs. There is a bit of erosion on the trail and definitely some sketchy spots due to rain. But a great little, quick butt-kicker of a hike!

A great winter hike, especially if there are clouds. We hiked this left to right, but I would reverse that next time. The downhill of going makes you loseseveral hundred feet you just earned, and the last 3rd of the hike is very steep downhill. So, at the split, turn right and do the hard up first and you’ll have a nice, long, leisurely down hill for most of the loop back.

Excellent Hike. Difficult. Great views the whole way. Good parking.

This was a great hike! We actually started at the wrong spot we think, but ended up making it to the peak of Mount Thom! It was steep and slippery, but a great workout. While we were at the peak we walked over to the giant concrete structure and sat on top of it looking at the ocean views and city. We were almost to captivated to notice a mountain Iion climbing up to the trail that we had just been on, about 50 feet away! We got our stuff together and got out of there pretty quickly! Went down a back way because we wanted to walk with a girl who was alone on the trail just to make sure we all made it down okay. All in all great experience, just be prepared, and aware.

Great hike, great workout and a amazing view.

Beautiful and a good workout. Also parking was easy. You can even see the Pacific from the trail on a clear day.
