Easy walk with rewarding vistas.

If you’re looking for a hike with the best view of grand Teton and her lakes then I recommend delta lake over this hike. Me and my girlfriend set out on lupine meadows (the name of the trail head for surprise, Amp, delta, and garnet), but due to it being unmarked, proceeded to surprise and amphitheater instead which are great views! However on the way down we decided to search for the delta trail, and I’m glad we did!
The view at delta was the best by far And is well worth the pretty tough hike up. However it is unmarked and not easy to find unless you know where it is. So this is how is how you find it.

1. follow the signs towards amp. and surprise lakes

2. Once you hit the sign that tells you surprise and amp. are 1.5 and 1.8 miles away you’ll go up the trail until you hit a left turn to continue up the switchbacks of the main trail. At this turn look for a smaller dirt trail to the right that goes off the main trail, this is it!

3. Most of the trail is fairly steep and can be difficult, but if you’re in decent shape you should be fine. There is a dirt trail through most of it, including through the boulder fields, but there is also rock piles in the boulder fields pointing the way, make sure to bring a swim suit!

Absolutely amazing view at the end of the trail.

By far my favorite hike I’ve ever done! I’ve done it twice (both times in July) once there was heavy snow still at the peak due to heavy snowfall. If you’re in the Jackson hole/ Moose Wyoming area this is a must!
Amphitheater is the perfect place for a lunch time break and a hammock nap before heading back down the mountain!

Wonderful hike! Four of us did this trail on August 16. It was a perfect morning. We started at 7:45 and were the only ones on the trail until we met hikers on our way down. Beautiful climb through the canyon with running river and many waterfalls. Saw a bear cross the trail on the way down, seemed to be quite a bit of bear activity around the trail. Great views of Phelps Lake.
The ride into the trailhead was challenging - the road is full of moguls.

What a hike. It is hard but worth it. The divide is awesome. A little sketch at times.

Absolutely loved it! Hiked this on August 16th, 2018. Trailhead parking is limited and advisable for 4 wheel drive only, otherwise, park on turnouts along one mile rough road in. Plenty of black bear activity 2-4 miles into trail with huckleberry and raspberries abounding. Saw moose 50 ft off upper section within 1/2 mike of cabin. Top of trail levels to meadow and flowing stream before junction to Static Peak. Waterfalls are plentiful, and trail is well marked and maintained. Be there before 9:00 and enjoy some beach time at Phelps lake on way out, you won’t regret bringing along a bathing suit!

Did this hike today. My 4th time!!! It’s as beautiful as ever. Well worth the effort it takes to get there. I would suggest you go very early.

Well maintained trail with a beautiful view of the Grand Teton Mountain over Taggert Lake. Hiked Aug 2018 with the Denton’s.

Beautiful view, but too difficult for me to hike there.

The hike starts a little slow but afer 2-3 miles in really opens up! I recommend climbing past the boulders and continuing up the snow. You will not be disappointed with this one

I have hiked this trail three separate times. The beautiful aspens, view of the lake and the Tetons make for a tranquil hike. Very heavily trafficked up until the lake, then moderately trafficked continuing on the loop. We went a few days ago and ran into a black bear. We made noise and it ran into the woods. Nice easy hike.

Took this hike up and around to Phelps Lake. Beautiful scenery and the lake was very refreshing when we arrived. Crossed paths with two bears along the way which was very pleasant to watch.

We hiked this trail in about 2.25 hours. Nice and steady incline of close to 3000 feet. Will work your lungs! At Amphitheatre Lake we had lunch then spent the next hour climbing the narrow trails and boulders that started at the lake and went further up. SUPER technical. Not recommended unless you're a skilled hiker. We made it to a glacier and turned around. The views up there were unbelievable.

Amphitheater Lake is amazing! Many people went swimming in the cold water. Well maintained trail.

A great morning hike for my son and I. Hit the trail just before 8 and were done well before 10. Great photo spots for family. Morning reflection of Tetons off lake were incredible. Didn’t see any wildlife other than pika.

Murderous, but worth it. Super gorgeous trail, did this instead of Delta lake at the advice of a park ranger, apparently there’s been 3 search and rescues because of people getting hurt/lost on that trail. Very quiet, peaceful. Make sure you dip your feet in the glacial water!

This was a great trail with a beautiful lake. The only reason I rated it 3 rather than 4 is because I prefer trails with fewer people and this one is HEAVILY trafficked. Going clockwise be prepared for a fairly steep climb up on the backside of the mountain. My 7 year old got a little tired.

Great trail! Started at 8:30 am on a Tuesday in August. Parking was not a problem. Great views throughout the hike. Go in the morning to see the Tetons reflecting in the lake.

Wow, what a hike! I completed this hike in just under 9 hours. Starts and ends with gorgeous lake views. Had to cross two snow fields at the beginning of August! Would not have been possible without my hiking poles. I was exhausted by the time I reached the saddle (highest point), slowed down the way back. Incredible wildflowers just below Lake Solitude. The hike of a lifetime!

Did this hike my first day in GTNP. Beautiful lakes

LOVED this trail. Gorgeous views and easy enough for our four year old to do the whole loop. Great family hike.

We went at 8 am and were the only ones there to start. Maybe 10 cars by the time we finished. Very beautiful! I would say easy for sure. The trail was tight due to overgrown foliage but not rocky We saw a huge bull moose about 2 miles in if you walked counter clockwise.

Awesome hike! Unreal place when you get to the top. One of the best day hikes I have done! Hard, but not grueling at all. All different types of ages capable of doing this trail. Mama Black bear and her cubs were 5 yards from me on the trail eating berries. 18 switchbacks, exposed (sunblock), nice views of the lakes!

Absolutely gorgeous. Crowds annoying at the beginning and end but they thinned out near the lake.

I would rate this as easy. The meadows are pretty lush with berries and flowers. Highly recommend going slow and observing flowers and fruits growing around the trail with several bees and butterflies flapping . This was our "recovery" hike after delta lake. In the end we just sat by the lake and swam a bit. A lot better than being at the beach. Loved it.

There was a beautiful meadow of wildflowers and all around there was lush greenery. Got to see 5 bears, a beaver, a white tailed deer, a blue jay, and even heard woodpeckers in the distance! The lake was a gorgeous green color, reflecting all the trees and surrounding mountains.

Nice hike. Saw a dancing moose across from the bridge.

Beautiful hike. This trail is not strenuous, but there is a rise in elevation that might be hard for some folks. We had a lovely trek, stopping often to take pictures and to catch our breath.
