Great hike! The trail is black top and is very easy. We hiked on a Sunday early afternoon and it was very crowded. The falls are beautiful but there were at least 75-100 people there. We continued past the falls. The black top ended and so did the crowds. On the way back we saw a very young black bear cub. Beautiful day and views.

Love driving this motor trail. There’s so much scenery and places to pull over to walk around and see the waterfalls and a few old historical buildings. Also Ely’s Mill at the end is a must visit.

Okay hike. Completely paved, which can be nice but also less exciting. There were tons of people there when we went but understandably so: the falls were gorgeous! There is even a little path to talk to get a lower vantage point of the falls.

Worth every step!

Great hike! We hiked it with our young children and got to see two bears!

This is a paved trail, great views just very busy in the summer

Beautiful falls....once you get to them. I would classify this more of a hard hike and if you have small children such as I did, don’t do it. Very rocky, rooted hike mostly uphill on the way to the falls, almost 2 miles of that. Trail is small with large drop offs so if you encounter other hikers it is a little dicey.
But on the other hand, you can’t beat the scenery or the waterfall once you get there. It was beautiful and worth the frightening hike to get there (I’m scared of heights).
So if you don’t mind a hard hike uphill over rocks and roots, this one is for you! If you have any children under 4, it’s probably not a good one for you to do.

Great drive through GSM.

That said, I’d avoid this during busy times...

Quick hike to a beautiful waterfall. My boyfriend and I are in pretty good shape and made it there in under 30 minutes. We hiked this in the early morning; starting the trail on a Saturday at 8:30 we saw no one during our hike and and he falls to ourselves.

I would rate this trail on the easier side of moderate; well marked, easy terrain with plenty of “leveling-off” spots to break up the assent. A wet trail, though, so wear good shoes.

Nice hike, great double falls at the top. Parking is sparse so go early.

Great short hike with interesting terrain and vegetation along the way. The falls are beautiful with space to get in the water and/or stand under the falls. We were there in August 2018 and there were a number of resident large and small butterflies when you get to the falls. Again, big payoff for minimal effort if you’ve got little kids, elderly, or whiny hiking companions (although perhaps we shouldn’t cater to the whiny people!).

Wonderful, easy hike! We chose this as our family hike as my mother-in-law has a bad knee and we had three kids in tow. Beautiful scenic views and the waterfall at the end was awesome! My 6yo enjoyed playing in it! Definitely not a challenge by any means but still a lovely hike!

longer than it feels. many roots. parking is bare and may hike further to the t.h. than on the hike. go early

This is Beautiful waterfall that you can get up close to feel its energy. We hiked this in the rain in early August. The trailhead is located in Tremont. The trail is marked as “falls trail” and not as spruce flats falls. Hiking poles are recommended for this moderately difficult trail although you could do this trail without them. It is rated as moderately difficult related to the rocks, roots, and incline. It’s worth the drive.

Beautiful! Resident bear encountered. Can’t wait to go, again!

Easy hike, cool views. Only downside was it was horribly crowded and had to park a mile away

The loop didn’t open until 10 am so unfortunately didn’t beat the crowd. Cars were bumper to bumper. A few trails off the loop were good but loop itself was not worth making the trip for. One bear so far away you couldn’t tell what it was without binoculars. Cars were too back up to get a good glimpse.

Amazing very beautiful waterfall took my grandson he is 8 and he loved it will be doing this trail again

I loved this trail, the views were great and the trail was nicely paved however, it is an uphill climb that may be hard for some as it can be steep. Definitely worth the climb!

I'm giving the trail 3 stars because I'm unsure if I'm just being bitter. I was already pretty annoyed for having to park about a mile down the mountain from the trailhead because there were so many cars but I wanted to do the hike so no worries. I thought the waterfall was mediocre and over crowded and I was disappointed there were no mountain views. However, I travelled here from Pennsylvania and was extremely excited to hike the iconic smokey mountains and this was my first hike and I was just disappointed, I remember thinking I'd rather be home hiking for a large portion of the time. Again, I might just be bitter! I loved the plants and wild life; many lovely ferns, mosses and butterflies!!

Great hike this morning. This was my first hike ever and I’m looking forward to going on more.

This is just an ok trail. It isn’t exceptionally beautiful or exciting. It was our first hike on our vacation. It is a gradual ascent and I was packing out my 3.5 year old on my back, not because she couldn’t have walked, but the trail was really narrow and I couldn’t hold her hand. And so with a 35lb kid on my back, it was challenging enough for me for a quick hike. ;)

We also had a 5 and 7 year old and it was just right for them. So while it wasn’t MY ideal hike, it was good for younger kids.

This was a great hike, with a neat waterfall at the end. If you want to avoid a crowd, don’t go in the middle of a beautiful weekend day, like we did.

Hiked this today as a very out-of-shape 30 week's pregnant "beginner", and would agree that the trail is easy-moderate, and I loved it overall! It is nice and short, which is why I chose it, but the first 3/4 is quite an incline for someone of my health condition, and I had to be extra cautious about the many protruding roots and slippery rocks (after rain), especially coming back down. No complaints, though! The falls are a lovely 15 degrees cooler (about) right behind, and worth it! The kids LOVED it!! Get there early for better parking options.

Fun, easy hike with a nice reward at the end. Arrive early in the morning during season to get favorable parking close to the trailhead.

This is a perfect place to go for a trail run. I started at the Gatlinburg trailhead and ran to the Visitor Center. I also added on part of the Mountain Cove trail. I would suggest starting early. It was pretty crowded.
