It was beautiful!!! Amazing views, it was steep and snowing when we went, but the view at the end was worth it. Can’t wait to do it again during the summer

Hard going! First half straightforward, second half difficult route finding, mostly breaking trail and frequent thigh-high snow. Snowshoes would help a lot! At least there are now two sets of tracks to follow...

Agreed a very solitary hike - did this trail last week and made it to the intersection between Rosalie and Abyss before I had to turn back due to trail pretty much disappearing from snow (highly recommend snowshoes!). Beautiful trail though with plenty of views - Mt. Bierstadt is visible throughout most of the hike. I’ll definitely be revisiting this one come summer with better conditions for a backpacking trip to the lake!

Can’t tell you how many times we’ve done this hike! We bring all of our out-of-state visitors there ages 23-60+. We’ve visited in every season and will continue to go back! Also close to downtown Breckenridge.

Snow is still falling up there as of today 4/21. Due to all of the fresh snow I wasn't able to keep to the trail itself, instead just cut my own way up all of the way to the lakes. Snowshoes are necessary until a defined trail is made again. Excellent ski snow today!

This trail is absolutely gorgeous! It was snowing pretty steady the whole time I was on the trail and it was literally like strolling through a hallmark card. I would recommend this trail to anyone who loves a steady trail and great views. I will definitely be doing this trail again and again!

4/20/18 Steeper than I expected. There’s a period of elevation in the beginning where I got worn out, then it evens out for a bit and you get excited/ relieved and the last portion steepens with large rocks.
There is a restroom about 2/3 of the way up.
There wasn’t a parking fee when I went.
The lake wasn’t frozen. This trail would be better during summer when the trees come back to life!

Great trail with spectacular views of Estes Park and the Rockies! Worth every step!

Kind of a crazy day today- winds reached up to 90 mph in the Denver area, and even in Estes the winds were blowing pretty bad (although not quite THAT bad). When we started off the hike, it was sunny and blue skies, with only a few clouds. By the time we got to the lake there were snow pellets slapping against our faces and we had to cover our faces as much as we could on the way down so we could see where we were going. We got pretty cold and wet, but the hike was worth it. Can’t wait to do this again in the summer!

The trail was, for me, steep in a lot of places. I just took it slow (I'm not accustomed to the altitude), and was rewarded with fabulous views on the way up, and a nice little lake at the top.

This trail was great!! The views were amazing. The only downside was the wind at the top of the mountain. My husband and I were able to set up our hammocks at the top and eat lunch though - it was wonderful! I highly recommend!

Long but easy. Wide trail. Beautiful scenery. Follows a gorgeous creek for a while and ends at a lake. Fishing allowed. Saw a lot of families.

This was my first trail I went on and it is also in my home town. the trail was crazy but it was worth it when we got to the first lake it was amazing.

Incredible! Love the dispersed camping near the trailhead. Wonderful views at every turn!

Hiked today 4/5/18. Great weather and well maintained trials. The lake was half froze over and lots of people enjoying the views along the way. Only have been to Estes Park / RMNP 3 times and next to dream lake hike this is my 2nd favorite so far!

Awesome views and fishing

Wide trail and very dog friendly. Not difficult, completed in a few hours. Reservoir was pretty and there were many places to throw a stick for the dog. Will do again.

Great vistas and a well maintained trail. I would caution anyone with bad knees... definitely a stair master hike!

This trail was so beautiful, it was snowing on and off the entire way. I would love to go back when the lake isn’t frozen over. Lots of climbing with this one so prepare to be sore the next day if you’re a novice like myself.

Total stairmaster of a hike! Short-ish and beautiful views of Estes.

Well, it definitely provided the best views that I have seen through my many hikes in RNMP. The trail was steep & a bit arduous than I planned for. However I was expecting a bit more than we got when we finally reached the lake. I think summer would be best with the lake not frozen!

3/24/18 - Only made it to the lower lake but a beautiful hike! The forest of pines in the beginning is scenic and the view from the lake is awesome.

Wore only mircospikes and we post holes the last half mile - Would heavily recommend snow shoes.

Beautiful. Solitary. Saw a total of 7 people in 3 hours. Trail snow packed and only needed spikes bit a bit difficult to follow. Wish it were well marked. 4 miles in and tracks stopped. I tried to venture further but lodgepoled. Snow too deep after that without snowshoes. Still, lovely trail. If you’re looking for stillness without a lot of foot traffic, this is it. Look forward to hiking this in summer.

Was a wonderful hike, is very steep but doable. There were a few really slippery spots but overall a beautiful hike!

Great trail. Steep hike. Ditch the poles, spikes and snow shoes.

Hiked 3/14. Made it all the way up with boots and poles. Poles were a must or at least spikes as it's steep and slippery. The last mile I was sinking in the snow quite a bit so I actually put snowshoes on to get back down to the river bottom. Awesome winter hike!

This is like the ultimate stair master on the way up. If you have bad knees, you’re definitely going to feel it but the views are really beautiful. A lot of cool rock formations to climb around on along the way. Path is nearly dry except for a couple spots. The lake is not grand at the end but I didn’t regret it.

Great views of the peaks in RMNP, Longs Peak and Twin Sisters. Interesting rock formations along the way, and lots of steps. The lake was frozen but a nice place to stop for lunch and there was one stretch of snow/ ice that I was glad I had my poles for.. I imagine it gets crowded in the warmer months, but we will definitely go back and continue on to Balanced Rock (another 3 miles).
