Route has you walk on and cross a busy road. Avoid this trail if you're looking for a quiet hike, lots of people.

Great trail. Shaded to begin with which I appreciate. Then it’s all single track up. Amazing views all along. You gain altitude but it’s a steady gain. The top though, wow, worth it.

Fast hike to the top and back. You can run a lot of the trail as it has a nice steady climb. Beautiful view to see SB from the top.

I was taking by how beautiful the hike was. The views after the hot Springs were amazing. Side note, the trail was a little confusing and I would’ve got lost if I didn’t have All Trails recording on.

Hiking

Did this hike on 4/4 starting at Hot Springs Canyon trailhead. Arrived at 830am and parking was already full so we parked along the road like everyone else. The hot spring was WAY to crowded for my taste so I kept going. It was also probably due to it being a Saturday and holiday weekend. You can find my recording but took about 2hrs to make it to the top of montecito peak. We only saw 5groups once passed the hot spring. Finished at 1pm and it was WARM! Weather said 58 but felt MUCH warmer and there is no shade so bring water, sunscreen, and sun protection. Views at the top were worth it. The last 300ft in .2mi I would recommend poles for but the rest of the trail is fine. Climbing to the top doesn’t require anything other than willing to climb up and down a steep trail.

Only some areas have shade. Be prepared to do a lot of climbing, but it’s not as intense as Rattlesnake trail. Great view, but really nothing to do up top. I see a lot of people take picks, then head back down within a minute. No benches up top.

Very fun and beautiful hike. To get it the hot springs it’s about 3 miles round trip. I recommend wearing a bathing suit under your hiking gear so you can get in the hot springs. Bring a towel too! There were a few pools but they do get pretty crowded.

Amazing hike. Start early as it gets hotter as day progresses. Carry lots of water and sunscreen. Beautiful views. Great workout. We followed the right side split towards the end that took us to a different viewpoint but the one on this route is similar.

Beautiful tree filled trail. Steadily inclined and some steps involved on the way up to the hot springs, but the entire trail is shaded with beautiful trees and chrysanthemum looking plants. The hot springs are a heavenly sight to see. However, it was pretty crowded on a weekday morning! I can only imagine what it looks like on a weekend. Please be courteous and keep bathing suit or clothing on as it’s a public space to be enjoyed by everyone! Only taking off a star because it’s so crowded.

There are some nice wildflowers, and views. The trail is mostly exposed though, gets quite hot. If you go a bit past the end, there's a short trail to the right that goes up to a peak where the panoramic view extending from the Santa Ynez Valley to Santa Barbara and the ocean is worth it!

Only saw two other people on the trail. It’s a shame that Knapp’s Castle isn’t open to the public now and is being converted to a residence. I thought it was becoming a public tea room, but can’t find any information online. Beautiful hike though with amazing views.

These hot springs gave me a horrible rash all over my body. It’s been a week since I visited them and still have little red bumps and sores everywhere and am soooooo itchy. I’m not sure if I got it from the water or from someone soaking in the pool with me. There are 6 pools, about 10 feet wide, and all had 4-8 people in them (only saw one person with a mask besides myself). I wish I wouldn’t have got in but I’d hiked all that way I had to get in for a little bit. Fml. Also found a huge hair ball when I sat down and felt around. Skip this place. It’s not as great as everyone makes it out to be.

The trail was a great workout on the way up. Only ran into only one other hiker on the way going up. Be careful coming down because you could slip on all the loose rocks (like I did). The views on top were great, you could see the beach and the lake.

Beautiful, mostly with shade and steady incline all the way to the top. If you’re feeling adventurous and have enough water, turn left to continue down Tunnel and don’t miss the Mission Crag trail (very step, loose rocks) to connect back down to Rattlesnake. My run/hike was 6.7 miles, over 2k of elevation gain for 3 hours. Great hike!

These hot springs were soooo amazing in exception of one thing! We went for sunset and stayed for a few hours. Walking down at night was terrifying though because we spotted a mountain lion cross the trail ahead of us and were pretty spooked the rest of the way down. One soak was good enough for me! Strongly wouldn’t recommend going at sunset/night time.

It’ll kick your butt a bit on a hot day but the views are lovely and the way down is a breeze. Would do again in a heartbeat.
