Went a few days ago and it was beautiful. Trail is very icy so wear proper footwear. Fell from the ice and lost my black rayban sunglasses on the side of the trail about halfway to the lake if anyone finds them.

We actually didn’t make it all the way to the lake!:( it took us two hours to get to the trail walking on the road, which was beautiful but hard on your feet. The trail is beautiful, and we enjoyed the river, and the forest, but... In the middle, the trail went up and the ground was covered in ice. If all of us had chains on our shoes, and more time, we would’ve made it, but unfortunately we did not, so we had to turn back. Walking back another two hours on the pavement was even harder on our feet. I did the trail in the summer and it was wonderful, in April it is still gorgeous but needs more preparation and time.

Beautiful all the way up. My 3yo jumped in water when we got to the top!

Nature tripsGreat!

Short hike to spectacular waterfalls. Highly recommend cliff jumping into glacier water (st mary falls). For the best experience, don’t tell your friends how cold glacier water actually is and let them enjoy a refreshing surprise. 10/10

We really enjoyed this trail. We parked at Macdonald Lodge and took the road (since the roads closed to vehicles right now) to where John’s Lake loop comes out on the road (right) and merges across the road into a section of MacDonald (left). We went left and followed the trail until we got to the dirt toad and bridge that takes you to the actual trailhead. We went to the end of MacDonald and then on our way back did the John’s Lake section to Sperry Creek trail which takes you right back to the parking area of MacDonald lodge. That beat taking the road all the way back. Super gorgeous hike and we saw no people until we got onto the Sperry Creek section.

Went this summer, in July, so I apologize for the late review. Beautiful set of waterfalls, but heavily over crowded, at least in the summer. If you are looking for a hike to a waterfall but don’t want to deal with people then this is not the place for you. I probably saw 100-120 people in the course of 30 minutes sitting at St Mary’s Falls and roughly the same at Virginia Falls.

This is a beautiful trail, worth taking, with amazing views, however, it is not the length listed on All Trails. To just the halfway point, it is just over 4.5 miles. It's another more than 3 or 4 miles to the end. The halfway point is the only spot where this trail connects to the road other than the beginning of the trail. This is not a safe trail to bring small children on. I'm not sure if maybe too much of the trail has been washed away in recent storms or they've eroded for other reasons, but there are so many spaces where we had to walk single file across slippery, moss covered rocks with a tree lined tall slope on one side and a sheer cliff face dropping straight onto huge boulders on the other. If you can bring a small child on this trail, you are a far more trusting parent than I.

It was amazing! All the views: serene lake, loud rushing water, small waterfall like areas, silent woods. Pretty easy, even with a kid strapped on your back. 10/10 recommend. Will go back someday.

Breathtaking views. We went in August and my oldest son and I wore Chacos and shorts. This ended up being a huge fail because there was a ton of snow at Logan‘s pass and by the time we finish the hike, our toes were frozen. It was definitely an experience I’ll never forget. The views like most of Montana were amazing! Lots of wildlife and unpredictable weather. Be prepared. Sun, snow and hail in August. It is usually a busy trail, though due to COVID there were not many people.

Did this during a hailstorm in 2019. Tons of people as expected. Beautiful views, but as with most things in Glacier, too many people to relax. Best of luck finding a parking spot.

Cross country skied from lodge and for about the first 2 miles it was really icy, little snow making it tough to ski. Could see the road in some spots. The actual trail at avalanche had snow but did not need snow shoes at all. Some icu spots and walking piles would be helpful. Beautiful views and no people. Total 6miles skiing each way & 2 each way on avalanche trail. Total of 16. January 2021

One of the best trails in the park. Although be aware some of the trail will close during bear season.

Did this trail back in June 2019. Incredible diversity within a few miles of hiking, not only topography but weather. The payout at the lake is well worth the hike! Late June and multiple wall falls cascading down the mountains!

Mountain goats and plenty snow almost year round! Snowball fight in August anyone? Beautiful valleys. Vast spread of beauty with mountains, trees, lakes, and open meadows.
