Fishing

Just wondering if anybody has a map route from Dewey Lake to Cairn Lake and/or Medicine Lake?

Started on Cooke City side on a Wednesday in mid-July 2020. Spent nights at Russell, Dewey, and Rainbow lakes. Fishing was great on every lake, a mosquito or elk hair Caddis on a Tenkara rod worked very well for me. Very crowded at Rainbow lake on a Friday night. Great hike.

Lots of incline but an amazing trail with some beautiful views

9/21/20 Did this from Jackson Glacier Overlook to Lake McDonald lodge (Sperry Chalet trailhead) as a trail run. Used a car shuttle, took about 5.5 hours with not many stops. Beautiful scenery all around, views of several glaciers and over 2 passes. An awesome day covering some beautiful terrain!

HikingGreat!

One of the best hikes in glacier I’ve done so far. Lots of elevation gain (I did an out and back from Lake McDonald). I also added on Florence falls which you have to check out!! So many beautiful views though some were obscured by some wildfire smoke. If you have the time to add on Sperry Galcier it’s worth the extra effort!! I saw lots of mountains goats and even ran into some stag deer on the trail. Was on grizzly watch at Ellen Wilson campground but that’s nature for ya! Do this hike y’all!!!!

This hike has it all. Varied terrain, stunning views, and great opportunity to view wildlife. We saw a bull moose with his lady friend, and a black bear. The lake is beautiful as well. This was my favorite Glacier hike so far.

CampingGreat!

Labor Day 2018. Amazing views. Hiked from gunsight trail head and camped overnight at lake Ellen without any other hikers in sight. Took a campsite by the shore and it was breathtaking. We learned a grizzly walked into our campsite overnight from the great park service members doing trail maintenance, but he didn’t bother us. The fires were raging so lake Ellen was as far as we could go before turning around. Easily one of the most beautiful places on earth.

BackpackingGreat!

Hiked this last week and found the trail in great condition and busy, as expected. Lots of friendly day hikers, through hikers, and trail runners meant very little wildlife, but it was packed with beautiful scenery.

BackpackingGreat!

We took three days but could have easily spent an entire week exploring the area and all the side lakes! Beautiful views the entire time, and while the trail is busy it is also spread out enough that we were able to find quiet camping spots by ourselves each night. Can definitely see why this route is so popular!!

HikingGreat!

Absolutely beautiful hike with stunning views through out. The bugs were out so don't forget spray. We did a shuttle through Mike. It worked out great

Such a beautiful trail, at least between the east trailhead to Sperry Chalet. Vistas are ever changing. The 6 miles from Sperry Chalet to Lake McDonald Lodge is a bit of drag. It’s Burned out from a fire, so little shade or green, and lots of gifts on the trail left by the horses. We did it as a day hike, starting about 6:30 am, getting to Gunsight pass around 11, and down to Lake McDonald around 5pm. A highlight was enjoying a big pitcher of lemonade at Sperry Chalet ($4). There was one snow crossing (~50-60 ft in length, just east of Gunsight Pass) on a fairly exposed area that we carefully crossed using poles for support. (It was mid August). All creeks crossed were easy without wading (rock hopping only).
