Got to hike this in the snow, it was an epic experience. Lots of slipping and sliding, but tons of fun. One of my favorite hikes ever.

Decent views on the trail and at the lake. Water took on an amazing shade of aquamarine. It was the most underwhelming hike in Glacier NP for us. Way too crowded. Very little change in elevation, views weren't as dramatic as I hoped.

Hiked this trail with my grandson. The views are beyond spectacular

Our whole family ages 7-47 lived this hike. The view at the lake was amazing!

Hiked in August 2018 from the parking area. Our trip lasted 6 hours total, 3 hours up, 1 hour for lunch near the glaciers, and 2 hours down. Beautiful views of lakes, waterfalls, and mountains. Saw a few mountain goats and bighorn sheet. Very congested with hikers at midday. I highly recommend starting early in the morning. We wore long sleeves and long pants at 7am, but quickly stripped into short sleeves and shorts by 8am. Bring lots of water and stop to enjoy the views!

I got to the trail head right at 4pm and hiked at full pace and made it to the lake in about 20min even with recording video of a white tail buck crossing the trail about 40 yards ahead of me. The trail was frozen and slippery in some areas. I made it back with barely any daylight left in the forested trails(there were two groups of hikers behind me that I passed)

This is one of the best hikes in one of the best national parks and arguably one of the best hikes in the country. The trail along the north or south shores of Lake Josephine are flat but it is heavy grizzly territory. After a little more than 2 miles from the trailhead you will begin the ascent up Mt. Grinnell. The climb is difficult but extremely rewarding. The views of the surrounding Many Glacier area are some of the best in the park and depending on the season, waterfalls are present along the cliff face from glacier runoffs. Once you get to the top you are greeted by Grinnell and Salamander Glaciers. The crystal clear blue glacier water is even more beautiful in person than it is in the photographs. Hikers can take a break relaxing near the glaciers before heading back down. Although it's a challenge, I think everyone that visits GNP should check-out this hike; you won't regret it! Really love this hike, so many fantastic views and when you make it to the lake it really is a mountaintop experience. We were so glad to be able to have the lake to ourselves. There is such fantastic energy up there. We experienced great stillness and awe. Late September, early October is a fantastic time to go. Wear a lightly insulated jacket and the weather is perfect. We encountered maybe 6 people in the 6 hrs we were on the trail. (We took our time, spent a good amount of time at the top and also stopped to take a lot of photos along the way.) it’s true, it’s not s very hard hike, just long. The beginning part is steep but it’s not bad knowing that it doesn’t last very long... it did hurt a bit on the way back though! We didn’t see goats, sheep, bears, or moose, (even with our binoculars out every other clearing!) but we did encounter two friendly deer and a small flock of female grouse. Since there was no one else on the trail most of the time, we clapped our hands before we went around any of the sharp turns in the wooded areas. Nearby trails were closed due to bear activity. Take your bear spray and keep a keen eye out in this area while you are enjoying the views!

Possibly my favorite of all the lakes in Glacier. The hike isn't particularly hard, and offers great views throughout including a waterfall beside the trail. Iceberg Lake itself is beautiful, nestled under stadium like cliffs.

Physically taxing hike, but well worth the effort once you reach the top. Coming down was just as bad as going up!
Beautiful views of the valley & lake Macdonald.

Wonderful hike in its entirety. Beautiful scenery, relaxing river ambiance with impressive rock formations (carvings) and a remarkable reward once you hit the lake.

We hiked this with our kids in July. Took us 5.5 hrs to get up and 3 down. Well worth the work!! Beautiful views and great hike. We seen brown bears (so take bear spray) and mountain goats. If we did it again I would get there early and hike while it’s cooler...it get quite hot against the rock walls of the trail. Not a lot of shade. Take plenty of water. We refilled on the big waterfall as everyone else was...we did not get sick.

Did this trail last weekend. very nice trail, its a climb but worth it, great views.

Great trail. You can tailor it to skill level. Either hike to just the lookout point, or continue down to the lake.

Absolutely amazing. Busy trail in the summer.

Beautiful views!

Best hike ever!!! We hiked it with all 4 of our kids ages10,7,5 and 3 (husband carried the 3yr old) we loved it!! It was early July so the end of the trail was closed due to snow. But still highly recommended!! Take water as it really warms up on the way back!

We hiked this on 10/17 and good golly was it beautiful! The park service closed the last 1.5 up to Upper Grinnell Lake due to bear activity, which was a bummer. We didn't see any four legged animals the whole hike and were the only humans on the trail. The highlight was definitely lunch on the dock at Josephine lake.

Steady climb up, steady decent down. Saw a number of other hikers, but no wildlife except a crow, a grouse (Ithink) and some ground squirrels. The climb to the top was worth the effort. We ate lunch on top sitting on the deck of the lookout tower. I felt like the cell tower at our feet competed for attention and was out of place but that did not stop me from texting pictures to friends back home. Once on top there is a fantastic view of Lake McDonald. I met some locals on the trail that had used the trail many times. Back on Columbia Falls I talked to anothe local who had traversed the trail on three occasions. If I do it again I will wear better socks or shoes and a cap with a bill. There is almost no shade. But The leaves a a brilliant yellow and falling along the lower trail.

Awesome, easy hike through beautiful scenery.

Beautiful trail through the trees. Uphill on the way out to the lake. It snowed while we were there end of sept. Very popular hike. Beautiful waterfall on the trail of the cedars. The avalanche trail also runs along a creek which was very pretty.

My son and I did this hike on 10/8/2018 and hiked in the snow the entire way. Absolutely breathtaking views and easy walking for majority of trail. Two adult grizzlies on the trail within 75 yards about 1/2 mile before lake. Decided not to bump them, so we never actually made it to the lake, but well worth the minimal effort. Will complete this hike next time in GNP!

Beautiful trail! definitely would love to do it again.

Hiked this with two young kids. We had to carry them most of the way, but we made it to the lake in about an hour. The view at the end was well worth it.

Everything about this hike is perfection... but don’t cut it short. Go to both ends of the lake. You’re missing out if you don’t see the view from the opposite shore. Plus fewer people go the full distance so it’s a little more peaceful.

One the most beautiful trails I have hiked. Breathtaking, serene lake and heavenly waterfalls. Lots of wildlife.

Beautiful walk along the stream and lake at the end is absolutely stunning. It was quiet going up to the lake but lots of crowds as we made our way back down. Going to the sun had just closed at avalanche creek so lots of people settled on this hike when they realized they couldn't drive further. Definitely recommend going early as part of the lake's beauty is its solitude.

Enjoyed this trail. Great scenery along the way to the lake. Would definitely do it again in summer though and first thing in the morning to avoid crowds
