One of those ideal hikes that’s about the journey and the destination. Fantastic vista views, forest trails, waterfalls, and an unreal lake at the end. Steep incline at the very beginning but don’t be fooled - trail levels off after that for a very gradual incline the whole way. Get there very early to avoid crowds, bugs, and heat (half the trail is pretty exposed). Not nearly as crowded as Avalanche or Hidden Lake but still quite a few people, seems like late morning is busiest time.

Heavily trafficked walk in the park! Steep incline the first quarter mile, then leveled off to fairly even ground for the rest. Don’t be afraid to jump in once you get there!

on Iceberg Lake Trail

Breathtaking views the entire way but just spectacular at the lake destination. Watch out for grizzly bears and mosquitoes however

Absolutely gorgeous lake at the hike “summit”, and wonderfully cool and beautiful trail through cedar forest going up to the lake. It’s a little steep at times but otherwise moderate

Beautiful trail! Well maintained and medium foot traffic. The lake was a great payoff and the ice cold water was refreshing on a warm day!

For what this hike is it’s absolutely five stars. It’s not challenging at all and is great for the entire family and quite flat. The views are extraordinary at the end. Get there before 8 to beat the insanely large crowds that gather for this hike.

One of the more gorgeous hikes this country has to offer and a fun one at that. KEEP THIS IN MIND I did this in mid July and a large majority of the trail was still covered in massive snow sheets making hiking difficult and not for he faint of heart. You are rewarded however with the magnificent Grinnell Glacier which needs no words.

Like all trails in this amazing park it’s nothing short of insanely beautiful. Literally icebergs floating in a caldera looking lake at the end of a trail. Gorgeous wildflowers line your hike the entire way.

Excellent hike for the entire family here. Likely see some people cliff jumping at Mary falls either off the rock or bridge. Great waterfalls

We just went on Friday July 13. Still snow on parts of the trail, a steep incline about halfway to the overlook that was snow covered. We weren’t able to go down to the lake because of bears.

It was amazing.

Great hike! Take your bear spray and camera!

Great hike suitable for all ages! Take your bear spray and your camera

We did this hike on Tues 7/10. We were completely surprised by and unprepared for so much of the trail being covered with snow but we hiked it anyways and were certainly glad we did. We did this trail with 4 of our children ranging in age from 1-8. The older two were able to complete the hike easily on their own with exception of one very small part of the trail (about 15 yards) where we were on a dirt hill between 2 snowy spots. I’d imagine this part will get easier and easier as the snow melts. The view at the overlook was so beautiful it was certainly worth it and we saw a few mountain goats. I highly recommend this trail

Make sure you hike to Virginia Falls - spectacular!! Not as many people

Beautiful hike!! Be prepared for weather changes. Sleeted and rained on us the whole way back off and on. Beautiful scenery! Snowed on peaks across from us. Lots of picture opportunities!!

Went in at sun point nature trail was about 6 miles round trip to Virginia falls. definitely worth the trip waterfalls all along the way. dropped in at sun point due to lack of parking at the other trail heads but still a great hike. easy for all ages took about 3 hours with short stops at the waterfalls.

This was a really fun trail to do, however when you get down to the lake there seemed to be an avalanche that made it hard for me to find the trail. I turned back because I felt uncomfortable being down there on my own, but it would have been doable. the trail down is very slippery and snowy. I saw people in running sneakers making their way down, but I'd really urge against that. the way up is pretty steep, but the views were so rewarding that it made the crazy weather and terrain all worth it. This trail will probably be cleared up closer to late July, but it's still doable.

Amazing hike!! Absolutely beautiful!! A challenge but worth every step!! Saw longhorn sheep and a grouse and definitely scenic!! Beautiful picture opportunities the whole trek!! Another beautiful part of the park!! Don’t miss this one!!

Easy hike. Beautiful payoff!

Best destination hike I’ve ever done. So pretty. Go early- beat the crowds AND the bugs. We were on the trail by 830. Saw a few people. On the way back after 1240-yikes, Dear God, it was crowded. And hot! There’s a lot of exposed trail on the latter end with no shade so I’m imagining those hiking had to be miserable. At least the icy lake at the end could cool them off. Baby waterfalls and one big waterfall about 1/2way frequent the path. Fortunate enough to see a female mouse grazing the hillside. Views for days. And then the lake-There’s no adequate words in the English language to describe Iceberg Lake. Think of a mermaids tail and you might be close in visualizing the glorious color of the water. Don’t miss this hike!

So pretty! We arrived at the park before 8 but by the time we were able to load a shuttle, it was after nine- keep that in mind! We shuttled from apgar- we didn’t want to take the chance on parking once we got up there.
Like others before me have said- go early to beat the crowds- somewhat! My advice to crowd haters like myself- go the extra mile around to the other side of the lake. You can be more by yourself. It’s a gorgeous hike

On the trail at 7:30 AM with few other hikers. Busier on the way back but not crowded. Beautiful easy hike. Gorgeous clear lake. Boardwalk section is accessible for all abilities and quite lovely.

Pretty rough going up at times. Make sure to bring water and snacks. The lake and backdrop of mountains and waterfalls were breathtaking and so worth the hike up. It took about 2 hours up and 1.5 hours back. So worth the journey.

Very fun for all ages. Pack a lunch and mosquito spray.

Would give it a 5 if it weren’t so crowded! Awesome payoff at the end and the waterfall toward the beginning is great too. But man, tons and tons of people.

Great hike today. Lightly trafficked with a fantastic payoff on the beach looking up at the snowmelt waterfalls spilling into the lake.

We got to the trail head by 9am on a rainy day so it was not too crowded. By the time we made our way back at around 11am the trail was really congested which took some of the enjoyment out of it for me. However, Avalanche Lake is spectacular and worth the effort.

Easy hike to nice falls. We literally stumbled upon a deer near the trail head.

Pretty hike - also pretty crowded. Not very challenging, the elevation gain is very, very gradual. Enjoyed the scenery of the hike more than the actual lake itself but it was hailing when we got to the lake.
