Easy hike! beautiful view at the end and a fun place to swim or cool off. Young or old this is a good hike for everyone.

Gorgeous lake. Nice hike.

Saw rams, mountain goats and moose along the way. No bears though! The glacier is slowly shrinking but still beautiful!

One of the best hikes in the country!!!!

Amazing views of the lake, with peaks above you and waterfalls galore.. Very crowded with people in the summer months. Went with a group, which is recommended as to not have to try and figure out the bear spray.

A nice trail, not terribly hard but will be very busy during the summer months. Plan to get an early start if you want a quiet trail because it’s popular with families

We hiked it the latter half of August 2018. The trail was busy. All types of hikers; flip flops with no water and experienced hikers. The flip floppers didn't go very far, thankfully. Lots of goats and sheep and small varmit. The smoke from the fires made the stay at Granite Park Chalet, along with no maturity of the staff (nice but no adults in charge) unbearable. We were to have stayed 2 nights but left after one, losing the money on that second night. We weren't the only ones not happy, there was a newlywed couple on their honeymoon who had a sad experience, too. We have stayed years at the sister chalet Sperry. Sperry had very good staffing with an adult in charge. Never going back to Granite Park for an overnight. Great hike thru with a lunch stop is recommended...... amazing hike ! Giving the hike 5 stars and the staffing at the chalet, 1 star......

Nice get away trail in the summer time. It's all about timing. Got to enjoy the lake with very a little amount of people.

Long hike but not too much elevation. The color of the water is beautiful, and if you’re feeling up to it (and have a swimsuit or change of clothes), hop on in! It’s cold but not too bad, even on a day when there was smoke and some clouds covering most of the sun, I wasn’t cold afterwards. Make sure to look out for trail closures, the entire pathway is lined with berries perfect for bears!

Amazing! Make sure to check trail closures, especially during the summer and fall when the grizzlies are active - glacier closes the trails according to bear activity. You can take a boat to make the hike if you’d like. Make sure to keep an eye out for animals in the valley below, saw moose, big horn sheep, and a grizzly.

Did this trail the Saturday after Going-To-The-Sun road opened this year. Came here in the afternoon, found parking easily The trail was still mostly covered in snow. Many people came with their sleds and skis - apparently a yearly ritual for some locals. Hidden Lake was still frozen. The views were dramatic and stunning at the overlook and throughout the hike. I just wish there were less people.

Decent views on the trail and at the lake. Water took on an amazing shade of aquamarine. It was the most underwhelming hike in Glacier NP for us. Way too crowded. Very little change in elevation, views weren't as dramatic as I hoped.

Hiked in August 2018 from the parking area. Our trip lasted 6 hours total, 3 hours up, 1 hour for lunch near the glaciers, and 2 hours down. Beautiful views of lakes, waterfalls, and mountains. Saw a few mountain goats and bighorn sheet. Very congested with hikers at midday. I highly recommend starting early in the morning. We wore long sleeves and long pants at 7am, but quickly stripped into short sleeves and shorts by 8am. Bring lots of water and stop to enjoy the views!

Nice Easy trail.

I got to the trail head right at 4pm and hiked at full pace and made it to the lake in about 20min even with recording video of a white tail buck crossing the trail about 40 yards ahead of me. The trail was frozen and slippery in some areas. I made it back with barely any daylight left in the forested trails(there were two groups of hikers behind me that I passed)

This is one of the best hikes in one of the best national parks and arguably one of the best hikes in the country. The trail along the north or south shores of Lake Josephine are flat but it is heavy grizzly territory. After a little more than 2 miles from the trailhead you will begin the ascent up Mt. Grinnell. The climb is difficult but extremely rewarding. The views of the surrounding Many Glacier area are some of the best in the park and depending on the season, waterfalls are present along the cliff face from glacier runoffs. Once you get to the top you are greeted by Grinnell and Salamander Glaciers. The crystal clear blue glacier water is even more beautiful in person than it is in the photographs. Hikers can take a break relaxing near the glaciers before heading back down. Although it's a challenge, I think everyone that visits GNP should check-out this hike; you won't regret it! A very long day hike, but completely worth it. It's actually not too difficult, with relatively minimal elevation gain. The hike itself takes you through dense forest before following the creek up to Cracker Lake. Aside from the spectacular mountain range backdrop, what's really striking is the white-blue color of the lake's water.

Wonderful hike in its entirety. Beautiful scenery, relaxing river ambiance with impressive rock formations (carvings) and a remarkable reward once you hit the lake.

We hiked this with our kids in July. Took us 5.5 hrs to get up and 3 down. Well worth the work!! Beautiful views and great hike. We seen brown bears (so take bear spray) and mountain goats. If we did it again I would get there early and hike while it’s cooler...it get quite hot against the rock walls of the trail. Not a lot of shade. Take plenty of water. We refilled on the big waterfall as everyone else was...we did not get sick.

Yes a little steep at the beginning but not bad and a walk in in the park after that. Beautiful hike all around especially in the fall! Great day hike for sure

Absolutely amazing. Busy trail in the summer.

Best hike ever!!! We hiked it with all 4 of our kids ages10,7,5 and 3 (husband carried the 3yr old) we loved it!! It was early July so the end of the trail was closed due to snow. But still highly recommended!! Take water as it really warms up on the way back!

First time in Glacier. Trail had oustanding views. Hiked 10/16/2018. Elevation gain was heavy half way through for about 1 to 2 miles. Would highly reccomend yak trax or snow shoes for last 1 mile. Was able to complete with my 3 season boots however snow was 1-3 feet deep during last .5 mile -1 mile. Bear tracks everywhere. Take precautions.

We hiked this on 10/17 and good golly was it beautiful! The park service closed the last 1.5 up to Upper Grinnell Lake due to bear activity, which was a bummer. We didn't see any four legged animals the whole hike and were the only humans on the trail. The highlight was definitely lunch on the dock at Josephine lake.

Absolutely awesome hike. The views along the entire hike are incredible and we saw several mountain goats and deer. The beginning of the hike - when the path is narrow with steep drop-offs - may have been the most exhilarating part of the trail, though it is beautiful the whole way. Towards the end of the hike, it is worth making a short detour to stop at the Granite Park Lodge; the hike down from there, through burned forest, was longer than expected and very exposed (the only slight negative about the hike). Provided the park shuttle is running, it is relatively easy to get back to your car from the finish of the hike.

Awesome, easy hike through beautiful scenery.
