Walking

Not too muddy, a large tree was down over the path near the mill but no other issues.

We started Moonville Tunnel South Loop. 3 bridges were out. We walked on road to get around 1 or 2 washed out bridges and just past the tunnel we came to another washed out bridge and it was impassable. Bushwhacked to another trail and had a good 12 mile hike. It would have been nice to know when we started about 3 washed out bridges then we could have made other plans. They were putting beams down for the first bridge but the other 2 were not on the schedule yet.

Mountain bikingClosed

Totally Bummed Out! I went to do some trail riding, but these trails are not rideable for one. And two, bikes are not allowed on the trails. There was a road that you could ride on for a couple blocks on the residential street until you get to the boat launch and that's where it was closed off. So I hiked the trails instead and they were great. But again... No Bicycles on the trails. Remove the MTB tag for any of these trails here.

HikingGreat!

Beautiful place to hike! We thought we could take East Newport around the Lake to West Newport but came to a barricade. We considered going around it to continue, but a friendly passerby warned there was a police patrol that will give us a ticket. As we turned back, a patrol car came by twice and seemed to be checking on our whereabouts.

Maybe I missed something, but the directions lead us right to the tunnel and there were no signs referring to a trail nearby. I looked forward to it, but I would consider it more of a tourist attraction and less of a hiking trail.

A well-groomed trail with some great points of interest along the way - lakes, streams, water crossings and camp sites. Definitely download the map before taking this trail! The trail markings were a bit confusing near backpack camp #3 - we lost the trail and when we picked it back up the blazes were white. Eventually they went back to orange. Overall a very enjoyable hike - nice to find something new in the Hocking Hills area!

Trail is an easy walk, very neat area! Gorgeous graffiti! Very quiet inside the tunnel, a bit eerie. Allegedly 4 ghosts haunt the tunnel. No cell service and very little signage to the tunnel so be sure to map it out beforehand. No bathrooms at the tunnel but there is a permanent portapotty building next to the old schoolhouse!

Great trail - we parked at the mill parking lot and had a bit of trouble finding the foot bridge to cross the lake halfway through the hike...the boardwalk does not lead across but instead follow the road about 1/2 mile to the next parking pad and the bridge is right down there. Part of the trail is “closed” but we just went around the barriers like everyone else.

Great history and tunnel is cool BUT trail has large rocks after tunnel...not the best for dogs. Unfortunately, graffiti and litter around area too.

IcyMuddy

The mill was great but it was cold and snowy when I went. It was February 2016. The trail was icy and muddy in some spots and it was an up and down hill trek. I would go back next time I'm in the area.

The tunnel was cool besides all the graffiti past the tunnel was a waste of our time it takes you to what’s left of a old bridge and that’s it unless there more on the other side. Very easy trail tho.

Part of this is technically “closed” as of Sept 2020, due to a portion of East Newport Drive that has collapsed. But we went around the barriers and were safely able to navigate around the damaged road without any trouble.
