This trail has an easy start up until the old ranger cabin site. It gets steep after this, but very fun and challenging. This is a very good hike summer, fall or winter with 360° views. Springtime can be very muddy. There are several water sources along the way also.

Fantastic view , make sure you have snow shoes

It was great hiking on snowy trails and very beautiful view along the trail and on the top from which you can see high peak regions and snow lakes.

Took nearly 7 hours on snowshoes. Had to break the 2nd half of the trail.

solid hike did it mid march without snow shoes .... *dont do* but the hike was worth it great views from the summit if your trying to get a good photo go behind the fire tower

I climbed this trail with my bro, both equipped with snowshoes! In winter, this trail is beautiful! We took some amazing pictures! The view from the fire tower is phenomenal! It was really cold and windy up there, but it is so worth it!

Great view from the tower and a nice little cabin at the top to read up on its history! Just a few days after the storm (3-11-18 hiked) so snowshoes were a must. First time snowshoeing and I’m glad it was done on Goodnow! A couple little icy streams along the way. There was another cabin of sorts about 3/4 of the way at the top but it appeared to have mostly collapsed under the weight of recently accumulated snow.

Love this hike. I’ve hiked it from the bottom, drove up it, snowboarded down it. Just an overall great mountain. The part where the trail turns into the road is great. And the part of the trail from the road to the top of the mountain is great, so many views.

Great hike, amazing views, and a lot of fun scrambles on this trail.

Hiked this today in the snow and it was a good hike. It gets steep at some spots but not too bad, definitely need micro spikes. Due to the snow, there was no visibility at the top but beautiful snow and ice crystals on the trees and fire tower. Definitely recommend.

Definately a great hike! Challenging and rewarding all the same! High Peaks here we come!

Ideal day for hiking, overcast & 60s. Started from the ASRC, had a little trouble finding the trailhead (it winds down to the left of the loop in the road and behind the building). Very steep for the first mile to Marble Mtn, but Marble gave us the best view of the day. Headed up and over to Esther first, no view but beautiful fog. Lots and lots of mud. Finished on Whiteface, foggy and no view. Saw a hiker who had a Corgi in her backpack, our day-maker for the lack of views at the summit.

We were up & down in about 8 hours, had a group of 4 people with various fitness levels. Definitely one of those hikes where the quality of your hiking boots make or break your experience.

Hiked the full loop yesterday using micro spikes. Trail is really icy on the incline/declines areas. Snow shoes would not work well. Would definitely recommend going counter clockwise. Go to Thomas first. Views are incredible. Total loop time 5.25 hours because of the icy conditions. Good weather probably 4+. Moderate workout in the winter.

I did Rattlesnake just before Poke-O. It ended up being tougher than my previous hikes here. I had to navigate up a huge wall of ice in my microspikes. I hit the Summit right at sunset. I headlamped it out and bushwhacked around the ice wall on my way down (no problem). A nice day of elevation gain.

Did this over the weekend and it took less than 4 hours. It was a nice hike, pretty icy in some spots but fine with microspikes. My dog struggled with the ice a bit in some parts so I had to help him. Trail was fine without snow shoes, passed a few people on skis. Overall really nice time, will definitely do it again in warmer weather!

Beautiful day for a hike, 3 hours in and out. This was my second of the 6er. We also completed Baker shortly thereafter.

Nice views from the top!! If u start from the jack rabbit trail located near whiteface lane you can find a herd path which will be a lot easier then the one from 86. Also McKenzie and haystack u can do it in one day. Cheers to winter hikers!!!

Awesome hike!!! Winter time crampons or snowshoes a must. !!! The summit has a gorgeous 360 view. Hike takes about 4-5 hrs. Enjoy!!!

Trail is in pretty great condition but spikes are a must ! With the warm temperatures there were some very slippery spots !

Fresh snow covers the ice created during rainy period. Some drifting above 3,000 feet. Light snow today with limited visibility. Summited Esther first, then Whiteface. Saw four backcountry skiers come up the access road, which is plowed and covered in ice. Rigorous hike and quite steep on top. The final 400 vertical feet along the ridge was impressive. Could see alpine skiers dismounting the Summit Quad chairlift. Wind relatively calm today. Started at the Wilmington Reservoir. Noticed most people access the trail from the Atmospheric Sciences Research Center, 110 Marble Mountain Ln, Wilmington, NY 12997, which shortens the hike by 1.3 miles.

A great hike. All the other high peaks I have done have started off slow and gradually worked up to a higher incline. This one felt like we were going up the whole way. It did make going down pretty easy though. We picked up some micro spikes before making the hike and I think it was one of the best moves I ever made. About a third of the trail was ice, and the stairs going up to the top were, too. The stairs were extremely windy, so we went back down the ridge from the top. Much easier even with the small ice ledge where it meets the road.

Winter hike was a little more demanding than expected but overall worth the two high peaks you get out of this trail! Don’t forget to plan on it being windy and even colder at the top. The peak buildings are closed during the winter as a reminder. Trail was easy to follow and would recommend.

Beautiful views. Have done in both winter and summer. Great hike!

Great Hike. Extremely icy during the winter months, microspikes are an absolute requirement

Very nice, beautiful view! I would do it again! Didn't thought it was hard, perhaps moderate.

A very busy trail, but worth the crowds!! A steep climb here and there which makes it a fun challenge. Climb the fire tower and enjoy the wild flowers at the summit.

Have hiked this trail at least 20 times starting as a youngster. It never disappoints and views from the fire tower will are amazing!! If it’s a windy day, the tower does shake. Climb anyway!!!

One of the most beautiful hikes I’ve ever done!! Though, I am partial to the Adirondacks. The views from the summit are really exceptional!

Great hike and a little hard but manageable!
