There are so many trails; even though we follow the direction, we still got lost 3 times and had to trek back. At one point the trail showed on the map/GPS doesn’t exist. Wasn’t sure I was going to make it through; but I did, yay! We got some sun, fog, and rain, too during our hike. Was a great hike though - loved it.

On this day had a special opportunity to meet down to earth ..celebrity couple..” A glimpse of our lives”

The part that goes from parking lot to Rodeo Trail is wrong— the path is covered in brush, unmaintained and impassable. I backtracked and went further along the road to get on the trail. After that it was good. Karl the Fog was in full effect. I got lost as usual. Couldnt run strava cos of battery drain but it feels like I ran at least 13.1

Great views of the valley on the top of the mountain. Most of the hike is a wide fire road that an suv can go on. It offers practically no shade and gets really hot in the summer. I was a little disappointed to see all the satellites, antennas and some sort of power generator right at the top of the mountain. Definitely takes away from the serenity of the scene.

4 stars because the hike itself is somewhat boring but 5 star views. I would say the hike is 4 portions. 1st is switchbacks through forest, you have tree cover which is nice but you're near the highway. This brings you to the monument for RLS. Next portion is beginning of fire road to great view looking south/west and the rock that people climb all the time. Next portion us fire road that still has intermittent views and brings you to a crest. Last portion is the final like 1.5 miles where the grade feels tougher, you are more exposed, and there was no breeze for me until you summit. Last portion is by far the toughest but the view at the top is pretty awesome. I did the whole hike in about 3 hours not including my 15-30 minute break at the top. Great hike for building mental toughness because it can be such a slog. Start early as possible to avoid midday sun.

Great hike done a long time ago. It was done in the spring and was very cool and windy. Awesome...

Strenuous but so incredibly satisfying. There are some whale bones at Tennessee Beach. Pretty cool!

This is a very well maintained trail that has amazing views of the ocean. Take the Pirates Cove Trail if you like seeing the ocean.

Windy, so bring a windbreaker.

Loved it!

Red Hill is the tougher trail! We took a pup and she dis great for the full 7 mi. We parked at the camp ground and started there but realized most people park at Shell Beach. Works either way as long as you start out early enough to finish before sunset!

This is a good hike. I wasn't prepared to share the trail with bikes. Lots of bikes. And much of the trail is over pasture with cattle grazing, so lots of cow patties and, you know, the aroma. The Sunset Beach Trail is my favorite option of the two, having done both.

this montain demands the best of your it is a great workout.

I'm not exactly in great shape, nor do I go on hikes very often, so I admit I almost decided to just stay at the beach after seeing the trail wind up and up into the hills. I'm so glad I didn't. Absolutely beautiful views of the Russian River valley, the coast, Jenner, and the mountain ranges. Arrived early and only ran into one other person, otherwise just forests, fields, a huge assortment of birds, beetles and butterflies and a morning well spent. Went up Pomo first and came back on Red Hill - you get a good workout but plenty of places to stop and relax.

Great two hour hike with incredible views of the bay at the top. Took a detour to check out the houses on Wolfback Ridge, and another to take in the stellar view at the little cutoff in the middle of the SCA trail. Don’t miss that one! Note that the map is wrong, there’s no Julian Trail from Bunker Road to Rodeo Valley Trail. Looks like it never even existed either.

Very strenuous hike with beautiful views! Bring lots of water, a windbreaker, and high protein food.

Nice hike along the coast with beautiful ocean views. I started at Rodeo Beach, hiked up hill 88, through the Tennessee Valley to Muir Beach, to the Organic Farm, over to Tennessee Beach and then back to Rodeo Beach. 14 miles and 3,600 feet of elevation gain.

Great for mountain biking not much for hiking.

We hiked from Rodeo Beach to Muir Beach. This trail is definitely recommended for people who enjoy ocean views while getting some kick ass workout. It’s a hard hike but it feels wonderful afterward. Lots of going up and down interval along the trail.

Good trail, usually not crowded, and you might meet a couple of cows & horses along the way. Great views all the way, especially at the peak.

I give it 5 stars for the view throughout the hike and especially at the summit, as you sit down and enjoy the panoramic view of the surrounding counties. The vegetation is slowly growing back and most seem respectful to thread lightly and not disturbing the environment much. I wish they'd allow dogs here to hike.

This was an amazing hike! I definitely agree with the hard rating. My husband and I hiked the route starting at Rodeo Beach up to Muir Beach. Lots of Beach scenery and lots and lots of hills, including two very steep hills! We packed a lunch for the halfway point and ate before we returned. We also too 3 liter camelbacks of water each and pretty much killed it off. Layers of clothing is a must as well. The Beach is cool while part of the hike that is away from the beach is warmer, plus it heats up in the afternoon. I would definitely do this hike again!

Absolutely marvelous. Just exactly what the northern Cali coast is at its finest. Loved taking my son

love this trail. Quick and easy, great view from the top, love the cows

I think I found my new favorite hike. I started as others described: parked at Shell beach, took the Pomo side first, then came back on the Red Hill side. Lovely views, occasional shade and moderately difficult. I'll be back!

Hiked this on Memorial Day - wow did we luck out with weather! Clearest day I've ever had on these trails. Great hike and the elevation is broken up across a few big hills throughout so it doesn't feel so bad. Be careful about sun protection and water as there is no shade at all on this trail. Also the part by Tennessee Valley is very overgrown with lots of poison oak so wear pants or be prepared to scrub your legs well after the hike. Worth the workout and the views!

Great morning hike with beautiful flowers. Started at shell beach and took Pomo side first. Fog broke while we were at Pomo campground area. Red hill on the way back and back down to the beach for picnic lunch. Perfect day!

This hike was well worth the views of the coast! Definitely recommend Pomo canyon trail going in and red hill trail coming back to avoid a straight uphill climb (but still plenty of challenging inclines along the way). Lots of sunshine on a nice day so don’t forget the SPF!

What a surprise this was! Great hike through rolling hills with lots of cows happily grazing. A nice little forested area at one point in the trail. Then at the trailhead, a really breathtaking view! The view overlooks the Limantour Spit and the water sheltered in between is home to many rays and sharks. We watched them from our perch atop Drake’s Head for a while before hiking back. It was like we had hiked to the aquarium! Very cool hike.

Hiked this in April. Beautiful coast line, generally an up-and-down trail so no long continuous climbs but still a good trek.

Did this one on Memorial Day, started at 7am and had incredible views of Calistoga and the Napa Valley to ourselves. The winds were so strong around the first peak that we had to turn around, they almost blew us over at one time and he dirt from the road flew in our eyes. Will try again another day to reach the top.
