So a buddy and I did this hike on 8/6/18. Not a good idea. Do not do this hike in the summer. Wait until it cools off. There is very little shade to stop in. And please for the love of all that is holy, bring more than 3L of water. You will run out. You will be miserable. The hike itself is intense. A lot of big hills, the top has a 360 degree view of nothing but mountains. The last few hundred feet are tough. Small trail through big rocks.

A very relaxing hike. The 5 mile distance will give you a nice exercise.

Hike this trail as a child many time brings back fond memories. Much more populated now!

Easy to get to, didn’t see any rattlesnakes and the top is fun with the flags and a sunrise to start off your day.

Great workout if you take the loop counter clockwise. Hiked it in about 2 hours. Lots of dog poop though. Hazy day. Heavy traffic. Local favorite right off the highway.

Bike riding. Easy with a few steep hills. Friendly people on the trail

This hike is legit and very steep and tiring. Bring tons of water and be prepared for uphill both ways. We did it on 7/21/18 and one of our good Freinds had a heat stroke and was life flighted out. Be prepared.

nice scenery.

This is a late review but I hiked this trail back in the winter when the temps weren't too bad. I started the hike super early before the sun came up. It took a couple hours to finish the hike but its not too bad if you start early and do it before it gets too hot. I brought a gallon of water and pretty much drank the whole thing. I saw one girl practically having a heat stroke when I was hiking back toward the car. Her friends were pouring water on her head. I probably wouldn't recommend this hike unless you are in decent shape.

Next to very busy road and very ugly industrial buildings. Must cross several intersections along route. There’s a lot better places to ride your bike in San Diego. Although I appreciate the city putting in this bike path I don’t recommend.

Good hike. Taking the advice of others I went right at the junction. Made it a much better hike. Would do it again anytime.

Good workout. Rocky most of Trail so watch your step. It was very hazy at early morning so no real vista view from top this trip.

Great hike with an awesome waterfall to play around or near. Fun little "pool" area at the base of the falls to cool down in. Our dog loved it too. If u do bring your dog go early because of the heat....and plenty of water for you and your pooch. Hike back wasn't too bad, the last .5 mile back was probably the hardest. Only saw one snake..

very good hike. To make it hard and the full 4.2 miles go right on the fork in the road. This will have you going up the stairs instead of coming down them.

Good hike, great views from the summit. Quite a few rabbits, and LOTS of hummingbirds!

A tough one. Specially in the summer time. Took 5:50” heat definitely a factor. 4.5lt, barely enough. Nice views up top. Save energy for the return leg since you will find steep hills. Would recommend trekking poles and an early start.

It’s an okay hike. There are a lot of side trails and none of the trails are marked, so bring your phone with this app unless you’re looking to wander about or you have an excellent sense of direction. Although you can see for quite a ways, you’re really only going to be able to see subdivisions. If you live close by, check it out, but don’t drive far for this one.

It's a nice local suburban hike with about a 1000' gain on wide, well-marked trails. It gets better once you get to the top of Stoneridge housing development - at the first water tank - and away from the houses. Nice views once you get high enough. Can be somewhat crowded on weekends, but not too bad. Cool that you can get a climb and a view like this without having to drive too far. Nice spanning coastal views on clear days and usually pleasant breezes to cool you off once you hit the top. Cool to hit Double Peak just around sunset.

Definitely not a summer afternoon hike. VERY hot with very little shade. I took 4L and it was barely enough. Great hike otherwise. The best part was the rock formations towards the end, so push through to the peak and you’ll be rewarded.

Too many houses around during some of the trip.
Saw a coyote though so had a good experience. Moderate difficulty.

Tough as it's made out to be. I hiked it when it was a high of 75 and felt like it was 90. I went through 4 liters of water and could have used more.

It was a nice moderate trail.

Beautiful views. Make sure to purchase a permit. One permit for 5 people. Bring plenty of water and food. Don't forget your hat and sunscreen lotion because there are no shades. It was easy on the way down to the water fall. Yet, on the way back was a challenging. There was a little snake in the water. Be careful. I was there last week, July 1st.

great hike for training for whitey. beautiful day...

Very fun loop, some areas are a bit technical but nothing anyone can’t do. Lots of people all over the trail too.

Beautiful trail, recommend following the guidance here up Azalea to the right then down the paved road on the way back (not fun for the feet though).

Note: the entrance to Conejos is very difficult to spot, the trail sign is hidden if you’re travelling from Azalea. Also, bring lots of water and sunscreen. Park patches, cool gifts, and wildlife display at Cuyamaca Rancho visitor’s center before you get to the campground- worth a stop Sat and Sun 1000 to 1600. Recommended soundtrack for the drive: Tin Hat Trio: The Rodeo Eroded.

One of my favorite hikes in SD and also one of the hardest I've done! Great training climb for those working towards higher peaks and distances.

Didn’t get to the falls (couldn’t get a $10 permit) but nice hike nonetheless

Wow, this hike was tough! Very fun and challenging. We are still talking about it a year and a half later.

This was definitely a challenging hike! Would recommend starting as early as possible. We started at 8am and finished just shy of 4 hours and it was really hot! I had about 2L in my hydration pack and finished every ounce! It was an incredible accomplishment to summit, but you’ll definitely work for it!
